Ernest E. La Due
Ernest E. La Due, 91, of La Crosse, died on Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on Sept. 12, 1907, in Sparta, Wis., to Frank and Nancy (Mason) La Due. He married Verna E. Olson in Sparta on Feb. 1, 1934. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4 of this year.
He is survived by one daughter, Mildred Miller of La Crosse; two sons, Vernon La Due of La Crosse and Lester La Due of Sparta; seven grandchildren, Charlotte, Jerry, James, Carol, Jason, Brian and Sandra; three step-grandchildren, Beverly, Robert and Ronald; and 14 great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Amanda, Allyssa, Misty, Haley, Johnathan, Bradley, Jacquelyn, Melissa, Michael, Kodi, Robin, Sean and Samantha. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Donald Iliff will officiate. Burial will be at the Rockland Cemetery, in the town of Burns. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
Conway `Chester' Vernon
TREMPEALEAU, Wis. - Conway ``Chester'' Vernon, 73, of Trempealeau, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at his home.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Fairfax County, Va., to Charles and Flossie Lee (Landis) Vernon. On Jan. 20, 1950, he married Mary Lou Boxrucker in Maryland. The couple later moved to Wisconsin and raised their family. She died May 25, 1998. Conway had been a teamster for many years, but will be remembered by those in the G-E-T school district affectionately as ``Chester'' the bus driver.
He was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses.
Survivors are four sons, Gary (Pamela) and Jeffrey Paul, both of Trempealeau, Scott (Claudia) of Green Bay, and Jonathan of West Palm, Fla.; one daughter, Jenny Thorne of Trempealeau; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Vernon El Sadr.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
His body was cremated.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Galesville, Wis. John Swanson will officiate. Friends may call at the Kingdom Hall one hour prior to services.
The Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville, assisted the family with arrangements.

HILLSBORO, Wis. - Pansy Hubbard Nemec, 84, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in First Congregational Church, Hillsboro. Interment will be in Forest-Burr Cemetery. TOMAH, Wis. - Mary E. Taylor, 83, of Tomah, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, in Tomah Memorial Hospital. Services and burial will be in Valley Lawn Cemetery, Montrose, Colo. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah, is assisting the family with arrangements.

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Lucille S. Gerdes, 72, of the town of Irving, rural Black River Falls, Jackson County, Wis., died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in her home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday from St. Kevin's Catholic Church, Melrose. Burial will be in Irving Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Lulu M. Burlingame
MERRILLAN/EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Lulu M. Burlingame, 83, of Eau Claire and formerly of Merrillan, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in Oakwood Villa Nursing Home, Altoona, Wis., where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was born May 11, 1915, in Hancock, Wis. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday from Merrillan United Methodist Church. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Torgerson's Funeral Chapel, Black River Falls, and from noon until services Thursday at the church.
Jessie E. McKinney
ONALASKA, Wis. - Jessie E. McKinney, 81, of Onalaska, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at the Onalaska Nursing Home.
She was born in La Crosse on Nov. 3, 1917, to Edwin and Anna (Weiss) Taylor. She married Earl S. McKinney on July 16, 1936, in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1990.
Jessie had worked as a nurse's assistant at the Grandview Hospital and the Hillview Nursing Home before retiring.
She is survived by one daughter, Margaret (Roger) Saley of Onalaska; one son, James E. (Kathy) McKinney of Rice, Minn.; a former daughter-in-law, Mary McKinney Volden of Coon Valley, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Mark (Kathy) Saley, Lori (Jerry) Sands, Lisa Saley, Tami Saley, James McKinney, John (Heather) Korn, Jason (Jonda) McKinney, Michael (Melissa) McKinney, Timothy (Linda) McKinney and Rebecca McKinney; eight great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Brittany, Trevor, Alexandria, Megan, Jordan and Cheyenne; a sister-in-law, Evelyn McKinney of La Crosse; nieces and nephews; and her cat, Shadow. In addition to her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by four sisters.
Jessie was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and a very devoted great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by her family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of Onalaska. Deacon Frank Abnet will officiate. Burial will be in Onalaska City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and again on Friday from noon until the time of services.
