Bernadine H. Kunkel
Bernadine H. Kunkel, 94, of La Crosse, died on Friday, September 19, 1997, at the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center, La Crosse.
She was born in Arlington, Illinois, on July 14, 1903, to Frank Henry and Anna Elizabeth (Prendergast) Kunkel. She was raised and attended school in Antler, North Dakota. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Minot University in Minot, North Dakota and later received her Masters degree in Physical Education from Columbia University in New York.
Bernadine began her teaching career by teaching in a rural school in Minnesota for one year. She then taught elementary school in Oglesby, Ill., and later at La Salle High School in La Salle, Ill., where she taught physical education and became the Dean of Women. Bernadine arrived at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the fall of 1949 where she served as a Professor of Physical Education and Dance until her retirement in 1978. She created the L-X Dancers and served as their director for 25 years.
Bernadine was nationally recognized as an expert in square dance and was the first woman to call a square dance at a national convention. She loved to travel and experience other cultures and ways of life, and made many journeys to all parts of the world. Her family, friends, and faith were her life, and meant so very much to her.
Bernadine is survived by a niece, Gail (Sam) Chedester of Bothel, Wash.; a great-niece, Tracy (Albert) Thomas and their daughter, Dominique; a great-nephew, Sam (Michele) Chedester, Jr., and their son, Zachary, all of Bothel, Wash.; her cousins, Jim and Laura Prendergast and family of Princeton, Ill., Rita Kersten and Dorothea Dunn, both of Downers Grove, Ill.; and special friends, Betty and John Nicka of Madison, Wis., and their daughter, Karyn Wood. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Kunkel, Ann Tracy and Francis Jiminez; and one stepbrother, Walter Mills.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. from the Marian Chapel of the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Rev. Robert J. Cook will officiate. Her body will be cremated following the Mass with burial to take place at a later date at Acacia Cemetery in Seattle, Wash.
Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Sunday, September 21, 1997, from 3 to 5 p.m. where a wake scripture will be held at 4:30 p.m. and also at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
The family requests that memorials be given to the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman or the American Cancer Society.

Evelyn M. Myers
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Evelyn M. Myers, age 83 years, of Rt. 1, La Farge, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 1997, at Heritage Manor in Elroy, Wisconsin.
She was born on February 23, 1914, to William and Emma (Wemer) Appleman at Viroqua. She attended the Viroqua High School and Normal School obtaining a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Doyle T. Myers on June 5, 1937, in Iowa. They farmed at Burr Ridge, Town of Forest for many years. She was also a rural school teacher. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1993.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Sheila) Myers of Hillsboro and Gary (Judy) Myers of Ontario; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Diane) Myers of Kendall, Kristine (Theodore) Raspiller of Hillsboro, Rebecca Myers of Hillsboro, Angel (Russell) Bach of North Carolina and Melanie, Adam and Seth Myers of Ontario; two great-grandchildren, Michaela Bach and Jessica Raspiller; a half brother, Fredirick (Alene) Gudgeon of La Farge; a half sister, Barbara Guertin of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Elaine Myers of Hillsboro; and a brother-in-law, Hollis Haggerty of Blue River.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 1997, at 2 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Pastor Charles Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Rockton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Dorothy R. Larsen
SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. - Dorothy R. Larsen, 87, of Sun City Center, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, in the Columbia South Bay Hospital.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Lewers Funeral Home, Ruskin, Fla.

Clyde B. Lund
GAYS MILLS, Wis. - Clyde B. Lund, 70, of Gays Mills, Wis., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home, Soldiers Grove.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills. Burial will be in the Haney Ridge Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by McCormick Rose American Legion Post No. 308.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service; and one hour prior to services Monday in the church.

Roma Dell
TUCSON, Ariz. - Roma Dell, 65, of Tucson, Ariz., and formerly of St. Paul, Minn., Chicago, Ill., and La Crosse, Wis., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris P.; her parents, Emil and Ruby Benson; and a brother, Max Benson.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Barbara) Himli of St. Paul, Minn., Robert (Kathy) Himli of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Linnea (Alan) Oty of Albuquerque, N.M., and Morris P. (Marissa) Crandall of St. Paul, Minn.; her stepsons, Leroy Crandall of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mike (Anita) Crandall of La Crosse; her sisters, Linnea Shinault, Jarda (Bud) Parrish and Jane (Phil) Hengel, all of La Crosse; sisters-in-law, Ethel Graham of Chicago and Violet Crandall of La Crosse; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
To all of you who touched Roma's life, we thank you for your friendship, your laughter and the time you shared with our Mom.
There was a private celebration on Mount Lemmon at Tucson.
Memorials may be made to charity donor's choice.

Robert Lee Larson
Robert Lee Larson, La Crosse, died suddenly in his home on Thursday, September 18, 1997.
``Bob'' was born October 30, 1924, in West Salem, Wis., to Floyd and Dorothy Larson. He attended West Salem public schools until his graduation from West Salem High School. Robert attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and was a member of Beta Theta Phi fraternity. He then came home to West Salem where he worked at his father's store - the West Salem Farmers Store. In 1949, he became an employee of Dairyland Power Cooperative in La Crosse. May 1, 1954, he married Patricia Ann Cameron in La Crosse where they have lived all their married life. ``Bob'' continued his employment at Dairyland and became Chief Surveyor. He was a proud employee for more than 40 years until his retirement on November 3, 1990. He was known as a very avid golfer and duck hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; a daughter, Karen (Steve) Nelson; and two grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Nelson, all of La Crosse. He is also missed by his ``beloved'' companion, his dog Thor.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 22, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church. The Reverend Dr. J.M. Jordan will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sletten-McKee-Hanson Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be given to the Humane Society or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Clara D. Billings Eaton
AUBURN, Kansas - Clara D. Billings Eaton, 87, of Auburn, Kansas, formerly of Camp Douglas, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, in Tomah Memorial Hospital, Tomah, Wis.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah. Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday in the Federated Church, Burlingame, Kansas. Burial in Burlingame (Kansas) Cemetery.

Lynn M. Fields
TOMAH, Wis. - Lynn M. Fields, 34, of Tomah, Wis., and formerly of Hardwood, Mich., died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, in her home.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Boyce Funeral Home, Escanaba, Mich. Burial will be at Foster, Dickenson County, Mich.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until time of the services.
