Kenneth D. Dregne
VIROQUA, Wis. - Kenneth D. Dregne, age 79, of Viroqua, died Saturday, September 20, 1997 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua, where he had been a resident for about one week.
He was born May 5, 1918 at Liberty Pole, Wis. to Neil and Olivia (Swenson) Dregne. After graduation from high school he served with the Air Force during World War II. He was united in marriage to Eloise Wheeler on February 16, 1942. Kenny worked for the Viroqua Dairy in Viroqua for 35 years. After his retirement from the dairy he continued to assist local resident's with lawn care. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, VFW Post 3032, and the Eagles Club in Viroqua.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Eloise of Viroqua; one daughter, Kara (Peter) Kremenski of La Crosse; one granddaughter, Erin Kremenski of La Crosse; one sister, Catherine McEvoy of East Dubuque, Ill.; one niece, Kay Morwrey of Port Orange, Fla.; and one nephew, Charles McEvoy of East Dubuque. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Bernette Dregne.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 22, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Viroqua, with The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday after 10 a.m. The Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be given to Vernon Memorial Hospice or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Christine M. Sinkule
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Christine M. Sinkule, 90, of Hillsboro, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997 at St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John's Catholic Church, Dilly. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fick-Hoof Funeral Home, where an altar society rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. and a Bible vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Gaylord E. Schroeder
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Gaylord E. Schroeder, 71, of Hillsboro, died on Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Hillsboro, following a battle with cancer. He was born on Nov. 15, 1926, in the town of Morgan, Oconto County, to Louis Sr. and Edna (Boyd) Schroeder. He graduated from Oconto Falls High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education from State Teachers College at Platteville in 1951. He received his Master of Science Degree in 1967, from Wisconsin State University-Platteville. He taught Veteran's Farm Training in La Farge in 1951, before beginning his teaching career at Hillsboro High School in July of that year. He taught Vocational Agriculture and was F.F.A. Advisor for 38 years, until his retirement in 1988. Throughout the years, Mr. Schroeder was honored with many awards including the Honorary State Farmer in 1978, Honorary American Farmer in 1983, and Recognition As a Friend of Agriculture in appreciation for his continued and generous service to the UW-Platteville in 1995.
He was united in marriage to Joyce D. Towne on April 4, 1953. They spent their entire 42 years of marriage in Hillsboro. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1995. Gaylord was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy, and was very active in the local branch of Aid Association for Lutherans. He was a 36 year member of the Elroy Fair Board, past member of NEA, WEAC, WVAE, WREA, and the Juneau County Retired Educators Unit.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, DeLayne and Michael Krentz, grandsons, Nolan and Geoffrey of Mount Horeb; brother, Donald Schroeder of Oconto Falls; sister-in-law, Mrs. Harvey (Mary) Schroeder of Saukville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marlin and Lois Towne of Fond du Lac; two nieces and nephews and their families, Daniel (Karen) Schroeder, Jeffrey and Kimberly of Saukville; Pamela (William) Vaughan, Dakota and Colton of Fond du Lac; Lisa (Todd) Lehner, Nicole and Benjamin of Lomira; Douglas (Traci) Towne, Ashley Ohlrich, Keeley, Zachary and Joshua of Fond du Lac.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Louis Jr. and Harvey Schroeder.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy, with Pastor Bill Wrieden officiating. Other clergy include Pastors Wendall Eastman, Don Ehler, Blake Overlien, Alan Tripp, and Father James McNamee. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Cemetery, in Fond du Lac, Wis. at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. There will be a visitation at the Mausoleum from 3:30 p.m. until the time of entombment.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at Grace Lutheran Church in Elroy on Tuesday.
Mr. Schroeder will always be remembered for his F.F.A. trips to such destinations as St. Louis, Niagara Falls, New York, Washington D.C., New Orleans and Denver. He will also be remembered for his association with the Elroy Fair and the Hillsboro Firemen's Labor Day Celebration's Junior Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Schroeder were instrumental in beginning the Junior Fair in the early 1950's.
A memorial fund has been established and will be dispersed to projects dear to Mr. Schroeder.
Gaylord's family would like to thank his wonderful friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness since his illness. You have touched our hearts forever.

Eva Barker
FERRYVILLE, Wis. - Eva Barker, 102, formerly of rural Ferryville, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Freeman Lutheran Church, rural Ferryville. Burial in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and also at the church on Wednesday after 1:30 p.m.

Dorothy Stringham
Dorothy Stringham, 81, of La Crosse, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at her home. Memorial services are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. A complete obituary will be announced by the Blaschke Funeral Home.

Mary Marcella Gates
Mary Marcella Gates, 92, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse, Wis.
Mary, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a member of St. Matthews Church, was born on Dec. 21, 1905, in Cosgrove, Iowa. She married Marvin J. Gates on Sept. 9, 1926, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, John (Lilli) of Onalaska, Wis.; three granddaughters, Heidi (Dean) Foss of Kenmore, Wash., Kristine (Matt) Bissen of Tumwater, Wash. and Karrie Gates of Seattle, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Edna McLaughlin and Genevieve Stuckenschneider of Cedar Rapids.
The Stewart Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Louise M. Markee
MADISON, Wis./LA FARGE, Wis. - Louise M. Markee, 94, of Madison and formerly of La Farge, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at The Grove in Cottage Grove, Wis. She was born June 23, 1904, in Madison to Steven and Helena ``Lena'' (Greuen) Fell. She graduated from Madison East High School and attended nurse's school at Madison General and graduated as a registered nurse. On July 8, 1933, she married Vernon Markee in Madison. The couple farmed near Star Valley, rural La Farge, until 1944 when the Markees moved to La Farge. Louise worked at the La Farge Post Office from 1947 until she retired. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, the Women's Relief Corps, a member of the La Farge United Methodist Church, and the Women's Society and also held offices in the church.
She is survived by three daughters, Marvel (James) Hansberry of Sun Prairie, Elizabeth (Ronald) Roberts of La Farge and Ruth Markee of Madison; five grandchildren, Sandra (Rodney) Rindy of Bellville, Barbara (David) Karasek of Sun Prairie, Steven (Molly) Hansberry of Sun Prairie, David Roberts of Viroqua and Duane (Kathy) Roberts of Winona, Minn.; six grandchildren; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon on May 9, 1984; one grandson, Tom Joseph Hansberry; and three sisters, Violet ``Puss'' Larson, Jeanette Fell and Alice Sutton; and two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the La Farge United Methodist Church. Pastor Julio Alvarado will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest-Burr Cemetery, rural Hillsboro. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of services. Seland Funeral Home of La Farge is assisting the family with arrangements.

Myrtle Norma Brewer
VIROQUA, Wis. - Myrtle Norma Brewer, 85, passed into her eternal home on Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, with her family at her side. She had open heart surgery in 1986. She was born on March 5, 1913, in La Crosse to Mons and Sophie (Brudos) Thorkildsen. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1932 and also from Vernon County Teacher's College. She then taught rural school and in December 1938, she married Leon Brewer. They farmed at rural La Farge until his death in 1957. She then moved to Viroqua and taught special education until retiring in 1977. She had also graduated from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. She was a very caring teacher who also was active in her church circle, and shared her love with her family and friends. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Miriam Circle, VCTC Alumni, Vernon Retired Teacher's Association, Sons of Norway, and the Vernon County Historical Society.
Myrtle was a caregiver who will be sadly missed by her sisters, Aline Wohlust of Racine, Ellen (Mike) Dunnum of Viroqua; nieces and nephews, Geraldine (Larry) Langenfeld of Racine, Sharon (Jerry) Anderson of Brodhead, Michael and Mons Dunnum of Viroqua, Mark (Paula) Dunnum of La Crosse, Mary (Russ) Ganser of Merrimac, Maren (Ron) Campton of Viroqua, Esther (Art) Smith of Johnstown, Ohio and Ann (Joe) Smith of Griffin, Ga. She is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, Melissa Dunnum, Mikkel and Krista Dunnum, Nate and Ben Ganser, Tim Anderson, Terri Beveres, David Anderson, Tammy Broge, Shannon Anderson, Dawn Winters, Dena Kohl, Dennis and Duane Langenfeld; other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Tillman and Obert Thorkildsen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua with Pastor Ken Melby officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery at La Farge. Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua where there will be a prayer service at 5:45 p.m. Friends may also call at the church after 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Kyle David Horman
Kyle David Horman, 6 month-old son of David and Barbara (Erickson) Horman, died in the Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis, on Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998. In addition to his parents, Kyle is survived by his maternal grandparents, Gary and Alyce Erickson of Onalaska; paternal grandparents, Marvin and Frances Horman of Onalaska; his maternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Erickson of Onalaska; his aunt, Michelle (Paul) Murray and their children, Elizabeth and Megan; by two uncles, Charles (Brenda) Horman and Philip Horman; and by many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents and paternal great-grandparents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main St., Onalaska. The Reverend Bruce Bartel will officiate and burial will be in the Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.
