Donald G. Schroeder
TOMAH, Wis. - Donald G. Schroeder, 76, of Tomah, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the White Funeral Home, and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, both in Tomah. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, both in the funeral home.

Jean M. Traynor
TOMAH, Wis. - Jean M. Traynor, 64, of Tomah, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in Hospice Touch Hospice House. A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tomah. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to Tomah Hospice Touch in her memory. The Sonnenburg Funeral Home, Tomah, is assisting the family.

Oscar W. Wagner
BLUE RIVER, Wis. - Oscar W. Wagner, 68, of Blue River, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, after a courageous fight with cancer. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Blue River United Methodist Church. Burial, with military rites by Blue River American Legion Robert Shattuck Post 443, will be in Homer Cemetery, town of Hickory Grove. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Edith L. Granger
TOMAH, Wis. - Edith L. Granger, 78, of tomah, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Tomah. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the White Funeral Home, Tomah, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.

Agnes A. Glennie
Agnes A. (nee Johnson), 94, formerly of West Salem, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998. Beloved mother of Donovan (Elanor) Glennie; dear grandmother of Linda (Jeff) Davis and Debora (Ken Taber) Glennie. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Schmidt-Bartelt Funeral Home, Milwaukee. Interment 1 p.m. Monday, North Bend Cemetery.

Robert Clarence Wampfler
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Robert C. Wampfler, 69, of Prairie du Chien, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, in Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in United Methodist Church and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

George H. Churchill, 83
BRANDON - George H. Churchill, 83, died Aug. 6, 2003, at his home. He was born July 23, 1920, in Brandon, the son of Andrew Hawley and Winifred (Locke) Churchill. He grew up in Brandon, and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1939. In World War II he was a U.S. Marine, and fought on Iwo Jima. After the war, he worked on the family dairy farm and for the United States Postal Service. He married Elise Van Wess on Nov. 27, 1952. They had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He was made a Master Mason at St. Paul's Lodge in 1947, and recently received his 60-year pin from the Masons. Survivors include his wife, Elise, of Brandon; a sister, Mary Jane Wing of Brandon; a brother, John Winston Churchill of Mackinaw, Mich.; five nieces and a nephew; ten grandnephews and five grandnieces. He was predeceased by a son, Peter Craig, in 1974. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, with burial and Forest Dale Cemetery. Friends may donate to the charity of their choice in his memory, or plant a tree.

Arthur L. Adams Sr., 83
VERGENNES - Arthur L. Adams Sr., 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at Clark's Nursing Home in Vergennes. He was born on Oct. 17, 1920, in Hazelwood, Pa., the son of Henry and Jenny (Herdman) Adams. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by six children and their spouses, Lee A. and Robert Dains of Pennsylvania, Arthur and Celeste Adams Jr. of Charlotte, Linda and Billy Badstibner of Pennsylvania, Candy and Bill Schmidt of Vergennes, Mike and Terry Adams of Pennsylvania, and Helen and Richard Koontz of West Virginia; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Blake of Florida; a sister, Anna Metzger of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Opal (Hurley) Adams in 1998. Funeral services were held Friday at the Assembly of God Church in Vergennes, with interment in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Vergennes, VT 05491.

Berkeley Valerius Bennett, 81
NEW HAVEN MILLS -­ Berkeley Valerius Bennett, 81, son of Margareta Valerius and Delancey Hicks Bennett, died surrounded by his family at home in New Haven Mills on Nov. 25, 2003, after a 17-year battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 26 years, and three children, Melissa Butler Bennett of West Medford, Mass., Beryl Bennett Bryan of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Berkeley Weston Bennett of Cambridge, Mass. Family members remembered him as a devoted husband and father, avid gardener, sheep farmer. Lab lover, skier, philatelist, swing dancer, antique tool collector and "a cockeyed optimist" whose drive and energy influenced all who knew him. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Feb. 25, 1922, he served as a B-17 gunnery instructor in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon discharge in 1946, he worked in sales positions for several major pharmaceutical companies in New Jersey and New York. He married Ruth Weston of Pittsburgh in 1948 and had three children. In 1961 they moved to Stowe, where they restored an 1805 brick farmhouse. He founded the Vermont Nursing Home Association and became executive director of the Vermont Pharmaceutical Association, the Vermont Retail Association and the Vermont Restaurant Association. He also served as president of the Stowe Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Lamoille County March of Dimes. In 1968, Mr. Bennett and Ruth divorced. He then moved to Washington, D.C., where he chartered the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) in 1969 and advocated for nursing home reform and changes in standards for the care of the aged. He was instrumental in expanding the availability of nursing services at home. The ASCP honored him in 2002 with a cover story in their professional journal about his founding of the organization. In 1977, Mr. Bennett married Susan Ann Werner, and in 1982 they moved to Vermont, where they restored a 1803 Federal home. They became health care consultants and founded The Bennett Group/LTC Marketing. He was a member of Rotary International for 48 years and served as board member of the Addison County Home Health Agency and president of Shard Villa Retirement Home. He and Susan were instrumental in the ongoing restoration of the historic Union Church of New Haven Mills, where he served as president. He and his wife, a breast cancer survivor, served as Vermont Cancer Ambassadors, devoting their time to fund-raising, cancer awareness and advocacy. He also founded the Addison County Man-to-Man Prostate Cancer Support Group. A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the Union Church of New Haven Mills. Audrey J. Barrows, 59
VERGENNES - Audrey J. Barrows, 59, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, surrounded by her family and friends, at her home in Ferrisburgh. She was born June 13, 1944, in Weybridge, the daughter of Charles and Arlene (Dow) Clark. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes. She is survived by three children, Shelly and Dana Miller of Ferrisburgh; Sherry and David Parker of Monkton and William Barrows Jr. of Vergennes; two grandchildren; five sisters, Helen and Clifford Barrows of Vergennes; Shirley and Raymond Barrows of Starksboro; Linda and Ronnie White of Vergennes, Yvonne and Moe LaFrance of St. Albans, and Deanna and Roger Lunn of Illinois; and three brothers, Andrew and Gloria Clark of Waitsfield; Gilbert Clark of Salisbury and Chester Clark of Northfield. She was predeceased by her daughter, Michelle Barrows; two sisters, Betty Martell and Joyce Brown; and two brothers, Rodney Clark and Charles Clark Jr. Funeral services were held Saturday at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes, with interment in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorial contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Jessie (Ciufi) Sturchio, 99,
MIDDLEBURY - Jessie (Ciufi) Sturchio, 99, died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury. She was born April 10, 1904, in Newark, N.J., to Nicholas and Livia (Gerardo) Ciufi. On Sept. 21, 1924, she married Joseph Sturchio. A longtime dressmaker, she later took a position as head clerk for the New Jersey Welfare Department, where she worked for 15 years. In 1972 she retired and moved with her husband to Sheffield, Mass., to be closer to their son and his family. In retirement she kept busy cooking, knitting, working part-time at her son's general store, and volunteering as a clerk at Fairview Hospital in Massachusetts. A lifelong traveler, she kept up her hobby well into her nineties, spending six consecutive winters at a resort on the coast of Spain. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jessie Raymond and her husband, Mark, of Middlebury, and Richard Sturchio and his wife Janice of Medfield, Mass.; niece, Martha Oral of Bethlehem, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Janet Rickus of Great Barrington, Mass.; a son-in-law, Joseph Pellicano and his wife, Stephanie, of Westfield, N.J.; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; a daughter, Leonore Pellicano; a son, Joseph Sturchio; a sister, Viola D'Alessandro, and two brothers, Nick Ciufi and Harry Gerard. A private memorial service will be held by the family in South Egremont, Mass., at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center, Dementia Unit, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.
