TOMAH, Wis. - Jesse H. Kanable, 87, of Mound City, S.D., and formerly of Tomah, Wis., died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the Strasburg Nursing Home, Strasburg, N.D. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tomah. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the White Funeral Home, Tomah; also from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Raymond R. Jarrett
GENOA, Wis. - Raymond R. Jarrett, age 50, of rural Genoa died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998. He was born Jan. 7, 1948, to Robert and Margaret (Matchette) Jarrett, in Black River Falls. On Sept. 7, 1968, he married Shirley Wilson in La Crosse. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy for two years, on the USS Simms. He farmed for several years and then worked at Trane Co. in La Crosse for the past 20 years. He belonged to the Wisconsin Bearhunters Association and the Chaseburg Hound Hunters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jack of Viroqua; two daughters, Vicki (Kurt) Ruegg, and Peggy Jarrett, both of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Carissa, Alex, Ashly, Skyler, and Julian; his father, Robert of La Crosse; one brother, James (Barbara) of Stoddard; and one sister, Judy (Gary) Goldsmith of Hixton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother July 28, 1997; and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Trinity United Church of Christ, La Crosse, Rev. Wayne Lura officiating, with burial in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites by Stoddard American Legion Post #315. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Chapel in Coon Valley on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Elaine R. Stintzi
BANGOR, Wis. - Elaine R. Stintzi, 80, of Bangor, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare-La Crosse.
Born in Larson Coulee Nov. 24, 1917, to Mamie and Lawrence Erickson, Elaine married John D. Stintzi on Feb. 15, 1936, in West Salem.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bangor and the Presbyterian Women's Organization.
Elaine was a popular cook in the area, best known for her pies. She ran the Coffee Cup Cafe in Bangor for 10 years and worked at a number of other area restaurants.
She also loved bird watching in her later years and spent a good deal of time watching her feathered friends feed outside her living room window.
Elaine will be remembered best, however, for the love she had for her family. She doted over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed sending a card on birthdays and other special occasions.
She is survived by two sons, John L. (Shirley) Stintzi of Bangor and Roy (Maureen) Stintzi of Beaver Falls, Penn.; three daughters, Jeanette (Armand) Schaller of Bangor, Lou Ann (Ron) Hanson of Bangor and Mary (Mike) McHenry of Green Bay; seven grandchildren, John Paul (Melodie) Schaller, Scott, Kelli and Mandi Stintzi, Matt and Megan McHenry and Jestin Turbeville; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin Leis, and one great-granddaughter, Kelaney Kathryn Schaller; two sisters, Bernice Hansen of Bangor and Carol Michenor of La Crosse; one brother-in-law, Royal (Boydie) Stintzi of Lady Lake, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1970, and her son, George A. Stintzi, in 1971, her parents and special friend, Kenny Stein.
Memorial services for Elaine will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in the First Presbyterian Church of Bangor. The Rev. Louis Stoker will officiate and burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Bangor. She will be cremated.
Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Robert `Bob' Ziel
ONALASKA, Wis. - Robert `Bob' Ziel, 80, of Onalaska, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the Onalaska Nursing Home. He was born March 17, 1918, in Prairie Du Chien, Wis., to George and Ruth (Wing) Ziel. Bob attended Logan High School. He was a veteran and served as Staff Sgt. with the 32nd Infantry Red Arrow Division, from 1941 until 1945, in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He married Marie Mulock on Sept. 24, 1949 in Onalaska. He worked as a welder for the Allis Chalmers Mfg. Company in La Crosse for thirty years, and later for the La Crosse Rubber Mills for seven years, until his retirement. He was a member of the Onalaska Struck-Klanrud American Legion Post #336, and a past member of the Voiture #830 of the 40et8. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, with hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of Onalaska; one son, Charles (Laurie) Ziel of Wittenberg, Wis.; two daughters, Jane (Dan) Seeger of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Joanne Dietrich of Woodward, Okla.; one brother, Clifford Ziel of La Crosse; two half sisters, Marie Mueller of Cederburg, Wis., and Ruth Arndt of Milwaukee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Elaine and Myrtle; and one infant grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at the Onalaska United Methodist Church. Rev. Wesley Schirmer will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or the Onalaska United Methodist Church. The Fossum Funeral Home in Onalaska is assisting the family with arrangements.
Florence E. Tabbert
ONALASKA, Wis. - Florence E. Tabbert, 88, of Mindoro, died at the Onalaska Nursing Home Monday, Oct. 26, 1998.
She was born May 19, 1910, at Holmen to Fred and Anna (Von Moos) Bolterman. She married Wesley Tabbert on Jan. 18, 1928. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1983.
She is survived by three sons, Robert (Donna) Tabbert of Iron River, Mich., Wilbur (Arlene) Tabbert of La Crosse and Wesley J. (Maureen) Tabbert of Mindoro; by four brothers Harold Bolterman of Onalaska, Wesley (Helen) Bolterman of Onalaska, Myron (Maxine) Bolterman of Whitehall, and Edwin (Vivian) Bolterman of Holmen; by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Onalaska United Methodist Church. The Rev. Wesley Schirmer will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of the service.
Mary Genevieve Cullen
ONALASKA, Wis. - Mary Genevieve Cullen, 80, a resident of the Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse, Wis., passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 1998.
She was born June 20, 1918, at Sioux Falls, S.D., to Bernice Matie Hubbard Morrison and Walton Mitchell Morrison. She graduated from Osage High School, Osage, Iowa. She married Frank Cullen on Dec. 31, 1940, at Osage Lutheran Church. They lived in Washington state until returning to Wisconsin in 1952. She was a member of American Legion Post No. 238 Auxiliary at Greenwood, Wis., and VFW Auxiliary Post 7942 at Kansasville, Wis. She had a great love of music and playing the organ. She loved her calligraphy and taught many the art.
She is survived by two sons, Vincent (Beverly) Cullen of Onalaska, and Frank in Texas; by eight grandchildren, Bryan (Patricia) Cullen, Michael (Jody) Cullen, Patricia (Bill) Siegler, Mark Cullen, Jeffrey (Missi) Cullen, Lisa Cullen (and fiance Dr. Ted Ware), Dawn (Mark) Sanborn and Joseph Cullen; by 13 loving great-grandchildren, whom she lived most for; brothers Robert (Evelyn) Morrison and John Morrison; sisters-in-law Maxine Morrison, Ann Morrison and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her parents, brothers Duncan, Mitchell and Walt, and a grandson, Erick John.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Faith Lutheran Church, Mitchell, Iowa. The Rev. Rose Marie Nack will officiate. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 N. Main St., Onalaska, is assisting with arrangements.
Kurt Arlyn Johnson
ELLENWOOD, Ga./GALESVILLE, Wis. - Kurt Arlyn Johnson, 53, of 5884 Dan Drive, Ellenwood, Ga., and formerly of Galesville, Wis., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Southern Regional Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., from injuries and complications from a fall while volunteering his services at a local VFW Hall.
He was born April 6, 1945, to Tillman and Janice (Grover) Johnson in Galesville. In 1973, he married Paula Gavin in Iowa. They were married for 25 years, prior to her death in August of 1998. Kurt served 27 years in the U.S. Army, with a tour of Germany and two tours of Vietnam. He retired in 1990 as a Lieutenant Colnel. After retirement, he managed the Green Valley Golf Course with golfing as his favorite pasttime.
Survivors are three sons, Tom (Tracy) Johnson of Chicago, Ill., Kyle (Jessica) Johnson of Atlanta, Kurt (Sandy) Eddy of Texas; a daughter, Kim Eddy of Oklahoma; five grandchildren; his parents of Galesville; two brothers, Barrie of Madison, Wis., and Terry (Donna) of Galesville; a sister, Karn (Robert) Uhl of Fond du Lac, Wis., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville, with the Rev. Arnold Flater officiating. Burial with military rites will be 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis.
Friends may call at Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville, Wis., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until services.
Lance D. Allen
Lance D. Allen, 77, of La Crosse, died on Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
He was born April 27, 1921, at Webster, Wis., to Harvey and Ada (Miller) Allen. He married Inga Anderson on Nov. 28, 1945, at Westby. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for the Trane Co. for forty years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 52.
He is survived by his wife, Inga, by four children, Ronald (Kathleen) Allen, Margaret (Paul) Goetting, Rodney (Pam) Allen and Lana (Robert) Caldwell; by grandchildren Robin (Scott) Engler, Joel Goetting, Chad Goetting, Jonathon Allen, Scott Allen, Matthew Allen, Joshua Allen, Lance Allen, Ryan Allen, Katelyn Caldwell and great-grandchildren Samantha and Aaron Engler; by a brother, Glen (Effie) Allen, a sister Ruth Wemmer, sisters-in-law Ruth Ekholm and Opal Weiss; brother-in-law Henry Anderson and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St. The Rev. Mark Hart will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the service.
