Forest A. `Harkey' Harkness
Forest `Harkey' Harkness, 86, of La Crosse, died at the Hillview Health Care Center, Monday, Oct. 26, 1998. he was born July 7, 1912, at Mabel, Minn., to Adelbert and Fannie (Sherburne) Harkness. He married Margaret C. Housker on Jan. 21, 1939, at Calmar, Iowa.
Forest was an over the road driver for the Gateway Transportation Co. for thirty-five years, during which time he never had an accident. He then served as a crossing guard at the Emerson Elementary School until he began employment with Inland Printing Co. he retired on Dec. 31, 1986.
Forest and Margaret enjoyed traveling. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he served as head usher for many years.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by two sons, Dale Harkness and Don (Trish) Harkness, both of La Crosse; by a sister, O.live Sveen of Rushford, Minn.; by five grandchildren, Tim Harkness, Kate (Tim) Hansen, Sara (Abhijat) Pochanayon, Chris and Corie Harkness; by five great-grandchildren, Danny Harkness, Haeli, Alyssa and April Hansen, and Jordan Pochanayon; by daughters-in-law, Donna Harkness and Mary Harkness, both of La Crosse; and by good neighbors, Tom and Joan Gushiken and their children, Lonnie and Robbie. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darryl Harkness; a sister, Florence Seegmiller; and two brothers, Claude and Alton Harkness.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Brian King will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson St., Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.; and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the service.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to the Hillview Auxiliary.

BOSCOBEL, Wis. - Lloyd S. Kast, 96, of Boscobel, Wis., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at the Boscobel Area Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at the Thoni-Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel, and burial with military rites in the town cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the Thoni-Kendall Funeral Home, Boscobel.
Kenneth J. Bloyer
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Kenneth J. Bloyer, 70, of Prairie Du Chien, Wis., died Sunday Oct. 25, 1998, at the Prairie Du Chien Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, followed by the burial with military rites in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie Du Chien. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie Du Chien, where there will be a Wake Scripture at 8 p.m.

ELLENWOOD, Ga. - Kurt A. Johnson, 53, of Ellenwood, Ga. and formerly of Galesville, Wis., died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, in Southern Regional Hospital, Riverdale, Ga. Arrangements are pending with Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville, Wis.
Mildred B. Harrie
SPARTA, Wis. - Mildred B. Harrie, 92, of 331 S. Water St., Sparta, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta.
She was born on June 26, 1906, in Big Creek in Monroe County to Charles and Minnie (Stark) Morgan.
On May 8, 1924, she was united in marriage to William F. Harrie in Ontario, Wis. After a brief residence on a farm near Ontario, they moved to Sparta. In 1945 they purchased the general store in Leon, which together with the adjacent mill, was operated as a family business. In 1965 they returned to Sparta.
Mildred was a long time member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed caring for her flowers which were much admired in the neighborhood on Central Ave. She also spent countless hours making afghans and `yo-yo' spreads for her family, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 3, 1971.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Glen) Schuknecht of Hudson, Wis.; four sons, Lloyd (Willy) and Russell (Pat) Harrie of Sparta, William Jr. (Rita) Harrie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Dale (Phyllis) Harrie of Bloomington, Ill.; two sisters, Laura Roberts of Sparta, and Buelah Grant of Baraboo, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Rev. David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
Friends may call at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta on Wednesday fro 6 to 8 p.m.; and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta or the Sparta United Methodist Church.
Orion S. Hanson
CASHTON, Wis. - Orion S. Hanson, age 67 of rural Cashton, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, October 25, 1998 in Viroqua. He was born on October 16, 1931 to Helmer and Maria (Larson) Hanson. On November 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson in Barron, WI. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a heavy equipment operator for Williamson Construction in LaCrosse. He also worked for J.I. Case Co. in Rockford, IL, and for 17 years he worked for Beloit Pipe and Dredge. He had worked for J.P. Cullen Co. in Beloit, retiring in 1982. In 1978, he and Shirley moved to this area.
He belongs to the Operating Engineers Union, #139, and he was a member of the Antique Club, Syverson-Funk American Legion Post #155, and a former member of the Eagles.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two daughters, Debra (Thomas) Fischer of Rincon, GA, and Sandra (Ernie) Hass of Westby; four grandchildren: Sean Fischer, Christopher Fischer, Wayne Kast, and Mark Kast; two great-grandchildren, Nicolette Kast and Kyle Kast; four sisters: Mabel (Ernest) Bekkum of LaCrosse, Pearl Overgard of Cashton, Hazel Blihovde of Baron, and Delores (Curtis) Larson of River Falls; one brother, Harold (Marie) Hanson of Beloit; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two nephews, Everett Bekkum and Gary Hanson; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Overgard and Orville Blihovde.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastors Steven Meyer and Paul Jordahl will officiate. Burial with military rites by Syverson-Funk Post #155 will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Bessie Marie Salmon
VIROQUA, Wis. - Bessie Marie Salmon, 97, formerly of 115 1/2 South Main Street in Viroqua, died on Thursday evening at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July 18, 1994. She was born on Feb. 23, 1901, in the town of Franklin, Vernon County, to McClint and Julia (Hanson) Munyon. She married Henry Davis and they later divorced. She then married Orvyn Salmon and they farmed near Towerville in Crawford County. For several years, she would play the violin for local dances. Mr. Salmon died and in September, 1980, she moved to Viroqua to make her home with her daughter, Virginia Longworth.
Bessie has no immediate survivors. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie and Otto Munyon; one sister, Ruth Fehlberg; her son-in-law, Frederick ``Freddie'' Longworth in 1978; and her daughter, Virginia Longworth in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 1998, at the Thorson Funeral Home, Viroqua, with Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Readstown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials will be going to the activity department at Vernon Manor.
Bonnie R. Parker
WEST LIMA, Wis. - Bonnie R. Parker, 82, of West Lima, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in her home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in West Lima Church of Christ. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Picha Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
Paul C. Hagen
MELBOURNE, Australia - Paul C. Hagen, of Melbourne, Australia, was born July 2, 1945. He died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1998, of natural causes. He was an Aquinas graduate. He joined the Navy and followed his dream to Australia. He was employed professionally there, married and had four children. He is survived by his wife, Sharri; their four children, Keith, Linsey, Carl and Melissa; his mother, Leona Hagen of French Island; his brothers, Robert (Peggy) of Onalaska and David of Onalaska; and his sister, Wanda Blaine of Alexandria, Va.
