Bette F. Daily
ONALASKA, Wis. - Bette F. Daily, 58, died at the Onalaska Nursing Home on Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998. She was born Nov. 9, 1939, in La Crosse, to Frank and Edna (Wells) Daily.
A 1957 graduate of La Crosse Central High School, she earned an associate degree in data processing at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute. After four years with the Highway Safety Department of the Department of Transportation, she was employed as a computer programmer/analyst by her current employer, Western Wisconsin Technical College.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Jack) Daily and Gloria (Robert) Daily; 13 nieces; six nephews; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjory (Raymond) Kozelka; and four brothers, Ronald Daily, Robert (Gloria) Daily, Jack (Dorothy) Daily and James Daily.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the dickinson Family Funeral Home, 515 McHugh Road, Holmen. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Hjordis Pauline `Judy' McKean
TOMAH, Wis. - Hjordis Pauline ``Judy'' McKean, 103, of Tomah, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in First Congregational United Church of Christ, and burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, both in Tomah. Relatives and friends may call from noon until the time of service Monday in the church. The White Funeral Home, Tomah, is assisting the family with arrangements.
William G. Mellin
TOMAH, Wis. - William G. Mellin, 74, of Tomah, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Tomah Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tomah. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the White Funeral Home, Tomah; and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.
Faye Elaine Patak
Faye Elaine Patak, 56, of La Crosse, died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Born Dec. 16, 1941, she is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter, Heather; son-in-law, Greg; and sister, Jane. She will be missed by many, many friends. The funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Hosanna Lutheran Church, Forest Lake, Minn.
Ervin E. Schmitz
SPARTA, Wis. - Ervin E. Schmitz, 55, of Sparta, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, in Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Sparta. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, both at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home, Sparta.
Greg J. Bullock
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. - Greg Bullock, 43, died on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in his parents' home. He was born Aug. 3, 1955, in Milwaukee, Wis. He graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wis., class of 1974.
He moved to La Crosse and worked at La Crosse Floral. Greg is survived by his parents, Edward and Marion Bullock of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a brother, Terry Bullock of Viroqua; a sister, Laureen (Rick) Griffin of Onalaska; nephews, Nate and Clinton Griffin; niece, Kristin Griffin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by a sister, Bobbi Bullock.
Greg will be missed by a special friend, Roxanne Price, and Greg's little pal, Claus.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Harry G. Cooper
BELOIT/ALMA CENTER, Wis. - Harry G. Cooper, 71, of Beloit and formerly of the Alma Center area, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, in Beloit Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in United Methodist Church, and burial with military rites will be in East Lawn Cemetery, both in Alma Center. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton; and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Melvin G. Goetzka
WARRENS, Wis. - Melvin G. Goetzka, 75, of Warrens, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1923, to Alvin and Amanda (Biegel) Goetzka in the town of Lincoln. Prior to his retirement, he farmed.
He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Olson of Warrens and Mildred Goetzka of Chicago; a nephew, Alan Olson of Warrens; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Minnie, Irene and Louise; and a nephew, Les Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 East Monowau St., Tomah. Burial will be in the Warren-Mills Cemetery at Warrens.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
La Verne R. `Ole' Geary
La Verne R. ``Ole'' Geary, 73, of La Crosse, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1924, in Winona, Minn., to Albert and Millie (Neumann) Geary. He grew up in both the Winona and La Crosse areas and graduated from Logan High School. Following graduation, Ole served with the United States Army Air Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II, from 1943 to 1946.
Ole married Myrtle Koepke on July 9, 1949, in La Crosse. For several years, he and his brother, Harvey, operated Badger Floor Services, tiling many schools, churches, and other buildings in the area. Before he retired, Ole also owned and operated Shimshak's Tavern and Wittenberg's Cigar Store for many years. A great Green Bay Packer fan, he also enjoyed pheasant and deer hunting and fishing with family. Ole was also an avid golfer, hitting two holes in one during his golfing years. He and his family were members of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in La Crosse for many years.
Ole is survived by his wife, Myrtle; by one son, Tom (Betty) Geary of Apple Valley, Minn.; two daughters, Cheryl Coots of Appleton, Wis., and Susan Geary, also of Appleton; four grandchildren, Tara Coots of Madison, Wis., Derek Coots of Appleton, and Alicia and Gabriella Geary of Apple Valley; two sisters, Vera (Sherman) Miller of La Crosse, and Ruth Manske of Chaseburg; four sisters-in-law, Lucille Geary and Annie Geary of La Crosse, Georgia Nelson of Whitehall, Wis., and Gerene Olson of Anchorage, Alaska; and three brothers-in-law, George Olson of Anchorage, Orville Dahl of Whitehall, and Sherman Miller of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harvey and Ralph Geary; and three brothers-in-law, Carl ``Bud'' Koepke, Raymond Manske and Otis Sather; and one sister-in-law, Delores Dahl.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Rev. J.L. Mattes will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will take place at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services. The family requests that memorials be given to the Oncology Department at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
