Gerald L. `Jerry' McFarlin
FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. - Gerald L. ``Jerry'' McFarlin, 45, of Fountain City, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cochrane, Wis. Burial will be in the Buffalo City Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the J.S. Wozney Funeral Chapel in Cochrane, where there will be an 8 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church in Cochrane.

Mabel Pauline Kruk
WESTBY, Wis. - Mabel Pauline Kruk, 79, of Westby, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Vernon Manor, Viroqua. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, in the La Farge United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery, rural La Farge. Friends may call at the Seland Funeral Home, La Farge, on Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m. They may also call at the church on Monday from noon until the time of services.

Joyce M. Wilsey
Joyce M. Wilsey, died at her home on Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, from complications of diabetes and cancer. She was born Dec. 10, 1934, in Winona, to Larry and Alice (Kinder) Stencel. She married Robert A. Wilsey on Nov. 9, 1956.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; her mother, Alice Stencel of La Crosse; and a sister, Bette (Cecelia) Maliszewski of Trempealeau. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas ``Digger'' Wilsey and her father.
There will be no services or visitation. She will be cremated and buried at a later date.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.

Wilfred W. Starkey
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Wilfred W. Starkey, 81, of Hillsboro, died on Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born on Aug. 21, 1917, in Arthur, Neb., the son of Fred and Edith Starkey. On Jan. 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Lucy E. Gibbs. He was a veteran of World War II serving from 1940-1943. Bill worked as a mechanic for many years and later as a farmer until his retirement.
Survivors include five children, Lucy June (Roger) Dickhaut of Georgetown, Tex., Judy Ann Copus and her friend, Earl Dalberg of Viola, Betty Jane (Daniel) Sanchez of Bettendorf, Iowa, Wilfred Ray Starkey of Tomah and Larry Dean Starkey and his friend, Cheryl Burch of Hillsboro; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Clydie) Starkey of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Joe (Charlene) Starkey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five sisters, Norma (Walter) Brott of Ogalla, Neb., Daisy Richarson of Grand Island, Neb., Faye (Jerry) Brown of Grand Island, Neb., Ethel (Noel) Hale of Virginia and Patsy Kershaw of Colorado; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy, on May 24, 1993; one grandson, Michael; one brother, Bob Starkey; and three sisters, Grace Kemplin, Deloris Lane and May Hayes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the Fick-Hoof Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Willis Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Florence E. Tabbert
ONALASKA, Wis. - Florence E. Tabbert, 88, of Onalaska, died Monday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Dickinson Funeral Home of Onalaska.

Robert `Bob' Ziel
ONALASKA, Wis. - Robert 'Bob' Ziel, 80, of Onalaska, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the Onalaska Nursing Home. Services to be announced later by Fossum Funeral Home, Onalaska.

Elaine R. Stintzi
BANGOR, Wis. - Elaine R. Stintzi, 80, of Bangor, died Monday Oct. 26, 1998, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. Arrangements will be announced later by Fossum Funeral Home, Bangor.

Orion S. Hanson
CASHTON, Wis. - Orion S. Hanson, age 67 of rural Cashton, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, October 25, 1998 in Viroqua. He was born on October 16, 1931 to Helmer and Maria (Larson) Hanson. On November 10, 1951 he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson in Barron, WI. From 1952 to 1954, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a heavy equipment operator for Williamson Construction in LaCrosse. He also worked for J.I. Case Co. in Rockford, IL, and for 17 years he worked for Beloit Pipe and Dredge. He had worked for J.P. Cullen Co. in Beloit, retiring in 1982. In 1978, he and Shirley moved to this area.
He belongs to the Operating Engineers Union, #139, and he was a member of the Antique Club, Syverson-Funk American Legion Post #155, and a former member of the Eagles.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two daughters, Debra (Thomas) Fischer of Rincon, GA, and Sandra (Ernie) Hass of Westby; four grandchildren: Sean Fischer, Christopher Fischer, Wayne Kast, and Mark Kast; two great-grandchildren, Nicolette Kast and Kyle Kast; four sisters: Mabel (Ernest) Bekkum of LaCrosse, Pearl Overgard of Cashton, Hazel Blihovde of Baron, and Delores (Curtis) Larson of River Falls; one brother, Harold (Marie) Hanson of Beloit; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two nephews, Everett Bekkum and Gary Hanson; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Overgard and Orville Blihovde.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 29, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastors Steven Meyer and Paul Jordahl will officiate. Burial with military rites by Syverson-Funk Post #155 will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Bessie Marie Salmon
VIROQUA, Wis. - Bessie Marie Salmon, 97, formerly of 115 1/2 South Main Street in Viroqua, died on Thursday evening at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July 18, 1994. She was born on Feb. 23, 1901, in the town of Franklin, Vernon County, to McClint and Julia (Hanson) Munyon. She married Henry Davis and they later divorced. She then married Orvyn Salmon and they farmed near Towerville in Crawford County. For several years, she would play the violin for local dances. Mr. Salmon died and in September, 1980, she moved to Viroqua to make her home with her daughter, Virginia Longworth.
Bessie has no immediate survivors. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie and Otto Munyon; one sister, Ruth Fehlberg; her son-in-law, Frederick ``Freddie'' Longworth in 1978; and her daughter, Virginia Longworth in 1996.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 1998, at the Thorson Funeral Home, Viroqua, with Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Readstown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials will be going to the activity department at Vernon Manor.
