Lorraine L. Mutschler
Lorraine L. Mutschler, 65, of La Crosse, died on Saturday, September 27, 1997 in her home. She was born on July 14, 1932 in Mormon Coulee, Wis. to Art and Ethel (Mosemite) Beier.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Richard; two sons, Ryan (Jodi) Mutschler of Sparta, Wis. and William (Cindy) Broadhead of Palastine, Tex. and two grandchildren, Richard Broadhead and Derek Mutschler. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Wilford Beier.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ. The Rev. Wayne T. Lura, Sr. will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Marks
DESOTO, Wis. - Robert Marks, age 58, of DeSoto, died Saturday, September 27, 1997 in his home. He was born March 4, 1939 in Vernon County to Homer and Irene (Bohland) Marks. He married Bonnie Amann on October 8, 1960. They farmed the home farm, near Retreat, until one year ago when they moved to DeSoto.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bonnie of DeSoto; his mother, Irene of Viroqua; one daughter, Joanne Marks of La Crosse; one son, Rodney (Rose) Marks of rural DeSoto; two grandchildren, Ashley and Russell Marks of rural DeSoto; a special nephew, Ernie Helgeson of Genoa; one brother, Raymond (Sharon) Marks of Houston, Minn.; five sisters, Marjorie (Kenneth) Getter of Viroqua, Arlene (Gordon) Hanson of DeSoto, Charlotte (Rick) Miller of Conger, Minn., Elinor (Donnie) Robertson of Richland Center, and Ellen (John) Runice of Viroqua; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at 11 a.m. in New Hope United Methodist Church at Redmound. Pastor Alice Richards will officiate with burial in the Walnut Mound Cemetery at Retreat. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in DeSoto on today from 4 to 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 10 a.m.

Sister Margaretta Milder, FSPA
Sister Margaretta Milder, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 85, died Sunday, September 28, 1997, at Villa St. Joseph.
Sister Margaretta was born to John and Gertrude (Smith) Milder on May 18, 1912, in West Liberty, Iowa. She entered St. Rose Convent on August 16, 1933. She served as a homemaker and housekeeper for over forty years in parish convents and Iowa, Washington and Wisconsin. She retired to St. Rose Convent in 1989 and to Villa St. Joseph in 1991.
Sister Margaretta is survived by her Franciscan community; eight brothers: Edward Milder, Columbus Junction, Iowa; Paul Milder, Bernard Milder, Gerald Milder and Eugene Milder, Iowa City, Iowa; Maurice Milder, Davenport, Iowa; John Milder, Silver Cliff, Colorado and Leonard Milder, Solon, Iowa; five sisters: Louise (Mrs. Harris McMullen) Port Richey, Florida; Wilma (Mrs. Clarence Dietsch) and Elizabeth (Mrs. Lyle Frantz) Hills, Iowa; Mrs. Gertrude Nicholas, Ames, Iowa and Patricia (Mrs. Glenn Kasper) Oxford, Iowa; her sister-in-law Mrs. Barbara Milder, Edgewater, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Lawrence.
Friends may call Wednesday, October 1, after 4 p.m., at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. A Remembering Service will be held on October 1, at 7:15 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Reverend Thomas O'Neill, Viterbo College Chaplain, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 2, 11 a.m., in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, La Crosse.
Memorials may be sent to Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 912 Market St., La Crosse, Wisconsin 54601-8800. Blaschke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Margaret (Sheehy) Cantlon
ETTRICK, Wis. - Mary Margaret Cantlon, 84, of Ettrick, Wis. died on Saturday, September 27, 1997, at the Grandview Care Center in Blair, Wis. despite a valiant effort to recover after surgery. Margaret was born November 16th, 1912, to Pat and Lena (Kaiser) Sheehy. Displaying the spirit which became her trademark, Margaret made her way through the La Crosse Normal Teachers' College. She then returned to Ettrick where she taught at Whalen School before becoming an employee at the Ettrick Post Office. She married La Verne Cantlon in 1940 and they tended their Cantlon Coulee farm and family for nearly 50 years. In addition to these commitments, Margaret found time to be an active member of St. Bridget's Church, various parent/teacher projects, the Democratic Party and in recent years, a volunteer for the agency on aging.
She was preceded in death by her husband, La Verne, and oldest daughter, Ann, as well as four brothers, Gerald, Leonard, Alphonsus, and Jack and one sister, Theresa (Francis) Christianson.
She is survived by two sons, Patrick and Michael (Alicia), both of Ettrick; four daughters, Colleen (Jim) Greenwald of Madison, Bridget of La Crosse, Joan Cantlon Simkins of Amherst Junction, and Angela (Michael) Kroenke of Florence, Wis.; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Etrrick, Wis. Burial in church cemetery following the service. Family and friends may call at St. Bridget's from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the St. Bridget's Decorating Fund.
Mom, Grandma, Margaret, thank you! Thank you for the gifts received `round your table - -- the incomparable food, the quick, genuine laughter, the tireless spirit -- -even the admonitions ``for a good life'' -- -good, clean fun; hardwork; dedication to family and friends; laughter; music; home cooking; books; straight thinking and straight talk; and, above all, God. For this, and so much more, thank you!

Clifford G. ``Cubby'' Hannum
ATCHISON, Kansas -Clifford G. ``Cubby'' Hannum, 79, of Atchison, Kansas and formerly of Sparta, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 in Atchison.
He was born in Midway, Wis. on November 3, 1917 the son of Samuel Wallace Hannum and Sadie Francis (Rooker) Hannum. He worked at the Sidney Hotel in Sparta in the kitchen for 4 years and later for the G.I. Case Co. making tanks for WWII in Racine. He also worked for the U.S. Mail on the Milwaukee Railroad Co. until his retirement in 1962. In 1992 he went to live with his sister Joyce in Atchison, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by two sister, Grace Hannum and Ruth Rheindart.
He is survived by two sisters, Joyce (Roland) Dutton, Atchison, Kansas, Margaret Harrington, Janesville, Wis.; two brothers, Edward (Marillee) Hannum, La Crosse, Wis.; Herbert (Florence) Hannum, Libertyville, Ill.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta with Rev. Mark Walljasper officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the service.

John E. Proksch
John E. Proksch, 76, of La Crosse, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997 at Hillview Health Care Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday. Complete arrangements will be announced by the Woodruff Funeral Home.

Fern R. Petry
Fern R. Petry, 70, of La Crosse, died on Saturday, September 27th, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse on May 25, 1927 to Charles and Helena (Lechleidner) Kelly. She married Donald Petry on August 2, 1947 in La Crosse. Fern was a 1945 graduate of Aquinas High School. She devoted her life to her family and friends, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and meeting new people. Fern enjoyed bowling, golfing, cards, casinos and bingo, woodworking, cooking and baking, football games, as well as being a proud member of St. Pius X parish and the Moose Lodge.
Fern will be sadly missed by her family, her husband Donald, six children, Jean (Lyle) Kothbauer of Mondovi, Wis., Bob (Sharon) Petry of Delafield, Wis., Mary (George) Slusser of Cottage Grove, Minn., Rich (Kay) Petry of West Salem, Wis., Kathy (Frank) Smaby of Onalaska and John Petry of West Salem; eleven granchildren, Tom (Cindy) Kothbauer, Brian Kothbauer, Kara Kothbauer, Christopher Petry, Erin Petry, Ryan Petry, Jason Slusser, Jeff Slusser, Nick Slusser, Kristina Smaby and Ben Smaby, one sister Marian (Ed) Bicha of Onalaska, a brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Sally) Petry of Bagley, Wis. and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Art Kelly and two sisters, Dorothy Olson and Helen Morton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 30th, 1997 at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph J. Rafacz will officiate. Entombment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Pius X Cathlic Church today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., where a prayer vigil service will be held at 8 p.m., and again at the church on Tuesday from 9:15 a.m. until the time of services. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
Mom was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her entire life to us. We are as proud of her accomplishments as she was of ours. ``Love you mom!''

Gunnar A. Storbakken
WESTBY, Wis. - Gunnar A. Storbakken, age 68, of rural Westby passed away suddenly at home Sunday, September 28, 1997. He was born April 19, 1929 in the town of Christiana to Henry and Malla (Dauve) Storbakken.
Gunnar never married. He farmed his adult life on the family farm with his mother and brothers, Trygve and Henry Jr. He enjoyed hunting, wood working and self taught construction work.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Coon Valley Lutheran Church.
Gunnar leaves to mourn, two brothers, Myron (Kay) and Trygve Storbakken, rural Westby and three sisters, Marian Storbakken rural Westby, Evangeline Sykalski, Milwaukee, and Helen Sutton, Dayton, OH. Several nephews and nieces, Michael Storbakken, Seattle, WA, Patti Ogle of Arizona, Sharon Tschann, Northfield, Minn., Bruce Sykalski, Milwaukee, Sue Ann Sutton of California, Nancy Johnigan, Stephanie Elma, David and Mark Sutton all of Dayton, OH; great-nieces and nephews, Lewis, Lee, Rebecca, Eric Sykalski, Sarah Tschann, Heather and Mark Johnigan, Karta and Dashmesh Ogle, John, Mathew, Cynthia and David Elma, Daniel and Felipe Sutton and several cousins.
Gunnar was preceded in death by his father in 1931 and his mother in 1976; a brother, Henry Jr. in 1981 and a nephew, Randy Buford Storbakken in infancy in 1954.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at the Coon Valley Lutheran Church, Rev. Jack Mithelman will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from noon until the time of service. The Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley, is assisting the family.

Barbara L. Banker
MONTFORT/BOSCOBEL, Wis. - Barbara L. Banker, age 58, of Montfort, formerly of Boscobel, Wis., died on Sunday, September 28, 1997, at her home in Montfort, after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at 11 a.m. from Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Boscobel, Wis. Fr. Lavern Meier will officiate. Burial will be at the Boscobel Cemetery in Boscobel. Friends may call at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Boscobel today from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service.

Leona C. Dieck
HILLSBORO, Wis. - Leona C. Dieck, age 74, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, September 28, 1997 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on May 10, 1923 in Norwalk, the daughter of William and Clara (Schultz) Kastberg. On February 9, 1947 she was united in marriage to Ervin E. Dieck. Together they operated Dieck's Clothing Store in Hillsboro for over 40 years. She was a member of the Hillsboro Historical Society.
Survivors include two sons: Gary (Nancy) Dieck of Wonewoc and Alan (Barbara) Dieck of Dubuque, Iowa; three granddaughters: Robin, Allison and Jennifer; one sister: Irma Schmitz of Sparta; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death be her husband, Ervin, on December 25, 1986; and a sister: Lillian Carr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at the Fick-Hoof Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Conrad Prell officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
