John E. Proksch
John E. Proksch, 76, of La Crosse, died Sunday, September 28, 1997 at Hillview Health Care Center. He was born in La Crosse on October 17, 1920 to John and Frieda (Jacobs) Proksch. He married Eleanor Roubik on June 29, 1974 in La Crosse. John had worked at Inland Printing and Trane Company before his retirement. He belonged to American Legion Post #52, La Crosse Eagles, and was a life time member of the VFW. He was an Army veteran serving over seas with the 688 Engineers in France, Belgium, Normandy, Luzemberg, and Czechoslovakia. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, three stepdaughters, Carol (Tony) Knutson, Nancy (Lee) Burgett and Betty (Ronald) Schams all of La Crosse, three grandchildren, Kim Knutson of La Crosse, Brent Miller of Decatur, GA., Kraig Knutson of St. Cloud, Minn., four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Andrea Burgett and Andrew and Ryan Puetz.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Woodruff Funeral Home 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd. The Rev. Steven Staude will officiate and burial with military rites by the American Legion Post #52 will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Woodruff Funeral Home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
Arnold ``Ping Ping'' Pederson
GALESVILLE, Wis. - Arnold ``Ping Ping'' Pederson, 78, of Galesville, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997 in his home.
He was born August 31, 1919 in York, Wisconsin to Christian and Anna (Flugstad) Pederson. Arnold never married. Until his retirement, he had been a hired man on several farms in the Caledonia Prairie area, rural Galesville.
Survivors are a sister, Vivian Joyce Swenson of Ettrick; a brother, Oscar Edward Pederson of Galesville; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister and three brothers have died.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary, Galesville with Rev. M.C. Parkhurst officiating. Burial will be in Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville. Friends may call at Smith Mortuary, Galesville today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until services.
David Arthur Klink
ARCADIA, Wis. - David Arthur Klink, age 31, of Arcadia died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997 as a result of an automobile accident.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wozney Funeral Home, Arcadia where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary. Friends may also call from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Walter J. Albrecht
VIROQUA, Wis. - Walter J. Albrecht, age 71, of 102 N. Main Street, died at his apartment on Tuesday, September 30, 1997. He was born on November 27, 1925 at Stetsonville to William and Esther (Bay) Albrecht. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On November 17, 1945 he married Mabel Nadler and they were later divorced. He had worked in construction as a laborer and truck driver. He was a member of Jacobson-Olson American Legion Post No. 138.
He is survived by one daughter, Carol (Dennis) Fait of Auburndale; one son, Terry (Cindy) Albrecht of Pueblo, Colo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Andrew) Bacha of Curtis; two brothers, Donald (Phyllis) Albrecht of Neenah and Glenn (Shirley) Albrecht of Laurel, Miss.; and his parents of Rib Lake. He was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Dewart; and one brother, Robert Albrecht.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, with Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiating. Burial will be in the Medford Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Evalyn A. Williams Aspenson
MOUNT STERLING, Wis. - Evalyn A. Williams Aspenson, 67, of Mount Sterling, died on Monday, Sept. 29, 1997 at the Bethel Home, Viroqua, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in La Crosse, Wis., on Aug. 31, 1930 to David and Irene (Anderson) Williams. She grew up on a farm on South Buck Creek Ridge, rural Ferryville, Wis. She graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1948. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from UW-La Crosse. Evalyn taught many years in area schools, including Eastman, Seneca, Stoddard and North Crawford.
On June 5, 1964 she married Leroy Aspenson of the Fairview area. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1988. She was a lifelong member of the Utica Lutheran Church and served on various boards and committees. She shared her love and gift of music as church organist and accompanist for musical groups and Sunday school.
Evalyn is survived by two sons, David (Robyn) Aspenson and Daniel Aspenson, all of Mount Sterling; an aunt, Lillian Williams and Lillian's daughters, Lenore (Tilman) Brudos and Francille (Merlin) Kvigne; sisters-in-law, Norma (Elwood) Forde, Delores Aspenson, Joanne (Charles) Lind, Yvonne (Don) Ausland, and Charlotte Aspenson; and a brother-in-law, Geary (Clarice) Aspenson; and other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
Evalyn was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; her parents, David and Irene; her daughter-in-law, Ilene (Daniel) Aspenson; and a brother-in-law, Ishmael Aspenson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. at the Utica Lutheran Church, Hwy. 27 north of Mount Sterling. Pastor Paul Finger will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Dommersnaes Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills, today from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary; and at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.

HILLSBORO, Wis. - Jerry P. Helgerson, 56, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 30, 1997 in St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Burr Wesleyan Church, rural Hillsboro. Interment with military rites will be in Forest Burr Cemetery. Brida M.E. Bair
SPARTA, Wis. - Brida M.E. Bair, 48, of Sparta, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997 at her home, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, Daniel; two daughters, Heidi and Heather of San Diego, Calif.; four sons, Shaun, Aja, Sky-Hunter and Forest Bair of Sparta; one grandchild, Winter Ann Bair; her mother, Ruth McAnany of Sparta; one sister, Christine (Ken) Schaefer of Caledonia, Wis.; and two brothers, Mark (Sandy) McAnany of Pewaukee, Wis., and Brian (Sandy) McAnany of Norwalk, Wis. The funeral service will be held at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at the Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta, with Mr. David Brooker officiating. The body will be cremated. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Memorials may be given to the St. Claire Mission Clinic in Sparta.
Esther H. Viner
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Esther H. Viner, 84, formerly of La Crosse, died on Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at the Good Samaritan Hospital at Corvallis, Oregon. She was born May 14, 1913 in North Dakota to John and Sena (Moen) Johnson. She married Charles V. Viner on July 12, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1954. Prior to her retirement, she had worked for the La Crosse Auto-lite, and a local hospital, as a nurse's aide.
She is survived by a son, Terry J. Viner of Independence, Oregon; a daughter, Cheryl Viner of Corvallis, Oregon; three grandchildren, Terry John Viner Jr., Troy A. Viner and Scott C. Viner; two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Jordan; and a sister, Dora Enget.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
LeMoine O. `Bud' Clark
NEW AUBURN, Wis. - LeMoine O. ``Bud'' Clark, 64, of New Auburn and formerly of Viroqua, died Sunday, September 28, 1997 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. He was born in Westby, Wis., on July 6, 1933 to Cash and Myrtle (Simonson) Clark. He married Betty Haynes August 14, 1954 in Viroqua, Wis. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Sheldon, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Clark of New Auburn; one son, Shannon (Tammy) Clark of Soldiers Grove, Wis.; two brothers, Larry (Yvonne) Clark of Soldiers Grove and Clyde Clark of Viola, Wis.; three sisters, Charlotte (Robert) Ekern of Littleton, Colo., Margaret (Dan) Fredrickson of Viroqua, Wis., and Shelby (Lou) Hagen of Westby, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Trevor and Brittany Clark of Soldiers Grove, Wis. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Clark; and one sister, Jean Pine.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 1997 at the Church of Christ, Viroqua, Wis., with Reverend Bernie Zylstra officiating. Burial will be at the Viola Cemetery, Viola, Wis. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Schriver Funeral Chapel, Bloomer, Wis., where there will be a 7:30 p.m. service; and from noon until the time of services Thursday at the church.
Myrtle A. Holberg
Myrtle A. Holberg, 92, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, September 30, 1997 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born in La Crosse on May 17, 1905 to Otto and Barbara (Hammond) Ratz. She married Ernest W. Holberg on April 20, 1927 in La Crosse. He died on June 20, 1974. Prior to residing at Hillview Health Care Center, Myrtle had been a resident of Hearten House II, La Crosse.
Myrtle is survived by two sons, James E. (Betty) of La Crosse and Larry W. (Darlyne) of Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren, Debra Chadwick of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Pamela (Norm) Holberg Allen of Winona, Minn., and Paula Holberg of Rochester; two great-grandchildren, Andera and James Chadwick, both of Idaho Falls; and a special niece, Delores Hake of La Crosse, as well as many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ernest, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Ratz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 1997 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steven Staude will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.
