ROCKFORD, Ill. - Dellas S. Gibbs, age 87, of Rockford, Ill., died on Friday, September 19, 1997 at Alpine Fireside Nursing Home in Rockford.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at 11 a.m. from Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home in Boscobel, Wis. Arthur Ward will officiate. Burial will be at the Bethel Cemetery in rural Boscobel. Friends may call at the Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home, Boscobel, Wis. on Wednesday, September 24, 1997 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Hilda M. Carson
VIROQUA/GENOA, Wis. - Hilda M. Carson, age 64, of 103 South Rock and formerly of Genoa, died on Saturday evening, September 20, 1997 at the Vernon Manor of cancer. She had just moved to the nursing home. She was born on October 3, 1932 at Purdy, rural Viroqua to Ivan and Nora (Halverson) Hastings. On May 30, 1951 she married Donald Carson and they were divorced in 1976. She moved to Viroqua and worked as a cook at Dunnum's, Mainstreet, and Beckman's Cafes. She also had worked at the Caring House as a care giver.
She is survived by four daughters, Charlene Hirschuber of La Crosse, Debra (Tom) Cade of Onalaska, Jody Carson of Viroqua, Laurie (Paul) Hutz of La Crosse; four sons, Donald (Betty) Carson of Viroqua, Randy (Vickie) Carson of Onalaska, Ricky (Nancy) Carson of Westby, Raymond (Jodi) Carson of Holmen; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her mother, Nora Hastings of Viroqua; three sisters, Vera Wang of Cashton, Patsy (Florente) Jambois of Genoa, Sheila (Roger) Gilman of Genoa; three brothers, James Hastings of Genoa, David Hastings of Genoa, John (Marion) Halverson of Ham Lake, Minn., one sister-in-law, Eunice Hastings of Genoa, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Hastings, and two brothers, Ervin Hastings, and Robert Lee Hastings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 1997 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua with Pastor Stephanie Steiner officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, rural Genoa. Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua and on Tuesday morning after 10 a.m. at the church.
Numan C. Storsveen
GALESVILLE, Wis. - Numan C. Storsveen, 77, of rural Galesville, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born Feb. 24, 1920 in the town of Ettrick, Trempealeau Co., Wis., to Christian and Inga (Mustad) Storsveen. Numan served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II, having served in the Aleutians, Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and Germany. On June 22, 1946 he married Alvina L. Berg in Galesville. He had been employed by the Lovig Feed Mill of Galesville for 23 years prior to working at Babson Bros. Co. of Galesville for 12 years before retiring. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville.
Survivors are his wife, Alvina of Galesville; a daughter, Arlyss McCarty of Bloomington, Minn.; and two grandchildren. Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville, with the Revs. M.C. Parkhurst and Arnold Flater officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville, Wis. Friends may call at the Smith Mortuary, Galesville, from 6 to 8 p.m. today; and Wednesday at the church from noon until services.
Victor H. Olson
ETTRICK, Wis. - Victor H. Olson, 73, of Ettrick, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 in Marinuka Manor, Galesville, Wis. He was born June 16, 1924 in the town of Ettrick, Trempealeau Co., Wis., to Melvin and Mabel (Bucholz) Olson. He never married. Victor farmed in the Ettrick area prior to retiring and was most recently a resident of Eden House Apartments in Galesville. He was a member of South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick, where he was both baptized and confirmed.
Survivors are a brother, Lester (Alvina) Olson of Sparta; and many nieces and nephews. A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 26, 1997 at 1 p.m. from South Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Ettrick, with Rev. John Ashland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Smith Mortuary, Galesville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday; and Friday at the church from noon until services.
Regina C. Walsh
Regina C. Walsh, 91, of Lopatcong, N.J., and formerly of La Crosse, died Friday, September 19, 1997 at the Warren Haven Nursing Home in Mansfield Township, N.J. Regina was born March 15, 1906 in St. Mary's Ridge, Wis., to William and Lena (Rademacher) Hericks. A former resident of La Crosse and Allentown, Penn., she had resided in Phillipsburg, N.J., for the past nine years.
Regina is survived by a daughter, Maureen E. Hopkins of Phillipsburg, N.J.; one granddaughter, Michele Hopkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Clara Mlsna of Reedsburg, Wis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet E. Walsh in September of 1978.
Regina was a member of RSVP and the Variety Singers in La Crosse; St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg; and participated in the Phillipsburg Nutrition Program.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 26, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. in the Marian Chapel at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman, with Rev. Anthony J. Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cenetery. Friends may call on Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse.
Manley T. Elton
Manley T. Elton, 71, of La Crosse, died on Monday, September 22, 1997 in his home. He was born in Harmony, Minn., on August 27, 1926 to Marvin and Tressie (Alfson) Elton. He had worked for the Trane Company for many years and after his retirement he worked with the city of La Crosse youth programs.
Manley is survived by a daughter, Catherine Elton of Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Douglas Elton of Millston, Wis.; and two sisters, Carmen (Bill) Bellingham of Preston, Minn., and Louise Sikkink of Harmony, Minn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corlinda; a son, Dale; and his parents.
A Memorial Prayer Service will be held today, September 23, 1997, at 7 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Manley will be cremated and his cremains will be buriel in the Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Society.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Catherine M. Zabel, 91, of Prairie du Chien, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 in Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien, where there will be a 4:15 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. wake scripture.
Orland Onshus
CASHTON, Wis. - Orland Onshus, 75, of Cashton, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997 in his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in North Coon Prairie Church and burial will be in North Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Torkelson Funeral Chapel, Cashton; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Virginia `Ginny' Goodwin Rolnick
Virginia ``Ginny'' Rolnick, 75, of La Crosse, died Monday, September 22, 1997 at the Franciscan Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. Virginia was born on October 22, 1921 in Washington, D.C., to Eugene W. and Mary Goodwin. Her older brother died in 1940. She grew up and attended public schools in Bethesda, Md., and was graduated by American University in 1942. She did graduate work for a year at American, and continued her studies in history at the University of Wisconsin in Madison until 1947. Virginia taught history and political science at Bethany College, W.V., from 1947 to 1950; she worked as an editor at the University of Wisconsin Press the following year, and then taught English at the University of Maryland's program in Europe from 1951 to 1952. Virginia married Stanley Rolnick on June 19, 1950.
She is survived by her husband; her son David and his wife Linda of Williams Bay, Wis.; by her daughter Laura and her husband Douglas Buehrle of Durham, N.C.; and her beloved grandchildren, Michael and Andrew Rolnick and Rebekeh and Matthew Buehrle.
Virginia and Stanley lived in Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Penn., and Magnolia, Ark., before coming to La Crosse in 1957. In her 40 years in this area, she made many dear friends in the community and at UW-L. She belonged to the Campus Dames and the Grandview Guild, and was especially absorbed in the activities of two American Association of University Women Units: Bookfellows, of which she was president for many years; and the international affairs study group. Ginny's special interests were literature, history, public affairs, gardening, cooking, music and travel. Most of all she helped and loved her family.
A time of gathering for her family to meet with friends will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the AAUW Scholarship Fund or the Fellowship of Reconciliation, or the Franciscan Skemp Medical Foundation.
Doris M. Goldsmith
Doris Mary Goldsmith, age 81, of La Crosse, died September 21, 1997 in the Hillview Health Care Center, after a long, courageous battle with heart disease. Doris was born August 22, 1916 in Valley, Wisconsin, to Onan and Mary (Caucutt) Potter. She married Eugene ``Gene'' Goldsmith on February 22, 1935 in Waukon, Iowa. She was raised in the rural areas of the Kickapoo River and in later years, she and Gene loved to return there to camp, fish, hunt and visit with relatives and old friends. She worked most of her life as a homemaker, as well as 15 years at Northern Engraving Company in La Crosse.
Doris is survived by one daughter, Mary Poehling of La Crosse; two sons, Robert (Gladys) Goldsmith of Eau Claire and Richard (Faye) Goldsmith of Holmen; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene on December 6, 1991; her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 24 at 10 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street. The Reverend Donald Iliff will officiate. Burial will be at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
