Gary R. Schipporeit
SPARTA, Wis. - Gary R. Schipporeit, 61, of Sparta, died Monday morning, September 22, 1997 at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Facility, Sparta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marguerite Schipporeit and one brother, Eddy.
Surviving are three daughters, Debbie (Robert) Vahary, Indianapolis, Ind., Pamela Schipporeit, Cathedral City, Calif., Lori Schipporeit, Palm Springs, Calif.; one granddaughter, Emily; one brother, Terry (Inge) Schipporeit, New Bern, N.C. The body will be cremated and there will be no service. The Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel Iona (Braeger) Tess
SOLDIERS GROVE, Wis. - Mabel Iona (Braeger) Tess, 89, of Soldiers Grove, died peacefully in her sleep at her home, Monday, Sept. 22, 1997. She was born on Dec. 27, 1907 in Waukesha County to Gustave and Augusta (Roether) Braeger. Mabel married Merlin Tess on Sept. 27, 1924. They had two children, Kenneth and Phyllis (Mrs. David Iverson).
While Mabel's husband was teaching, coaching, and being a principal in-Bancroft, Washburn, Turtle Lake, Union Grove, Reeseville, Lomira, Soldiers Grove, and Necedah; she kept herself busy with a variety of jobs. She worked in a cannery, locker plant, library, grocery store, picked apples, and when Merlin died in 1958, Mabel became the school secretary in Necedah (1958); a job she had until her retirement in 1986. She was also an active volunteer for the Lions Club, Fire Dept., Va Hospital, Tomah, the food pantry, and anything else she was asked to do. In Sept., 1995, she moved back to Soldiers Grove to be near her daughter and family. Mabel was a member of the Lutheran Church all her life and served as Treasurer for St. James Lutheran Church, Necedah. Mabel's hobbies were to travel with her sister, keep a diary every day; which she started in 1938, she was an avid reader, did knitting and handiwork, sewed, and in her younger years loved to walk.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (David) Iverson, Soldiers Grove; five grandsons, John (Kathie) Iverson, Coon Valley, Wis., Bill (Mary) Iverson, Platteville, Wis., Jim (Louise) Iverson, Soldiers Grove, Dick (Teri) Iverson, Rib Lake, Wis., David Tess, Waukesha; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jenifer, Melissa, and Zachary Iverson, and Jessica and Janine Tess; and a daughter-in-law, Harriet Tess. She also leaves many friends and relatives, (especially Rose Goss and a very special friend Ruth Fry).
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin; brother, Irwin; sister, Irene; son, Kenneth, and daugher-in-law, Lillian.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove. Pastor Leif Espeland will officiate; and at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cesarz and Zinnecker Funeral Home, West Chapel, on 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Dommersnaes-Bertram Family Funeral Home, Gays Mills (608-735-4524), from 4-9 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service; and at the Cesarz and Zinnecker Funeral Home, Thursday from 3-4 p.m. Burial will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in her name to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Soldiers Grove, St. James Lutheran Church, Necedah, Wis.; Soldiers Grove or Necedah Rescue Squads or Public Libraries.

Robert E. Moore
Robert E. Moore, 96, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of La Crosse, died Tuesday, September 23, 1997, at the Hillview Health Care Center. He was born October 6, 1900 in La Crosse, Wis. Robert married Leona Lee and she preceded him in death on October 28, 1955. He was a member of the custodial staff with the La Crosse School District. He played in the Western Division in the Class A baseball league. He was the first semi-pro baseball player to wear ``spectacles'' and her played in the first game under lights at Des Moines, Iowa. Robert hit a home run off Dizzy Dean. He was active in his retirement and enjoyed golf and spending time with his buddies at the North La Crosse Yacht Club.
Robert is survived by his daughters Beverly ``Betty'' (Robert) Seitz of La Crosse, Marilyn Wittenberg and her fiancee Robert Goschke of La Crosse; grandchildren James Wittenberg and friend Cheryl Amsrud; John (Carol) Wittenberg, and great-grandchildren Jenny (Troy) White and Benjamin Wittenberg; and grandchildren Jim (Sharon) Seitz, Pat (Frank) Kapinski, Kathy (Charles) Bennett, Margie (Ken) Reinhardt, and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; a son, Staff Sgt. Robert V. Moore; and a sister, Vera Curtis.
Memorial service will be Friday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette Street. The Reverend Ted Dewald will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

A. Robert `Bob' Peterson
A. Robert ``Bob'' Peterson, 76, of La Crosse, died Tuesday, September 23, 1997 at his home.
Memorial services will be Friday, September 26, at 1 p.m. from Our Savior's Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A complete obituary will follow. Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Rudolph `Rudy' Borud
WHITEHALL, Wis. - Rudolph ``Rudy'' Borud, 72, of rural Whitehall, Wis. died on Monday, September 22, 1997 in the Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, Wis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 1997 at 11 a.m. in the Trempealeau County Health Care Center Chapel in rural Whitehall, Wis. Burial will be in the King's Valley Lutheran Cemetery in rural Osseo, Wis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services in the chapel. Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, Wis. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Keith W. Matuska
WEST SALEM, Wis. - Keith W. Matuska, 66, of West Salem, died Monday, September 22, 1997 at his home after a long illness.
He was born August 23, 1931, in La Crosse, to Alfred and Helen (Kuschel) Matuska. On November 25, 1952, he married Nadeen Weaver. Keith was an army veteran, having served in the Korean War from 1952-1954.
Survivors include his wife, Nadeen; five children, Thomas A. (Barbara) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, William E. (girlfriend, Cathy Bass) of Onalaska, and Daniel R., Joyce M. (Randy) Schultz and David, all of West Salem; four grandchildren, Travis and Eric Matuska, both of Iowa and Lucas and Danielle Schultz, both of West Salem; two brothers, Grant (Rose) Matuska of La Crosse and Ralph (Kris) Matuska of Aganga, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
As Keith wished, his body will be cremated and there will be no visitation or service. Jostad-Jandt Funeral Home, West Salem, is in charge of arrangements.

Gaynell L. Fugina
OCONOMOWAC/formerly ARCADIA, Wis. - Gay Fugina died on Monday, September 22, 1997 at the Shorehaven Nursing Home in Oconomowac. She was born on January 19, 1906 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Peter and Agatha Anderson Meyers. She married Clarence E. ``Casey'' Fugina Sr. on June 7, 1932 at Sacred Heart Church in Eau Claire, Wis. Casey died July 1, 1986.
Gay was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and St. Anne's Rosary Society in Arcadia, she was also a charter member of the American Legion Aux. and had been a member of the Arcadia Country Club.
Gaynell is survived by on son Casey (Charolette) Fugina Jr. of Trempealeau, Wis.; two daughters, Kay (Thomas) Mettloch of Oshkosh and Flo (Fred) Gennerman of Oconomowac; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Florence Barkley of Waupun and a sister-in-law, Angie Meyers of Wausau. She was preceded in death by her husband Casey and two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. at OUr Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Thursday, September 25, 1997. Friends may call at the Killian Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia, Wis. Casketbearers will be grandsons.

Silas Dahle
Silas Dahle, 81, of La Crosse, died on Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born May 11, 1917, at Houston, Minn., to Nels and Sarah (Thompson) Dahle. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Hazel Byer Luce on Aug. 23, 1953. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1997.
Silas was employed by the Trane Company for 25 years. He was also involved with carpentry and home building.
He is survived by three sisters, Jewell Johnson of Grand Rapids, Minn., Evangeline Gorgos of Minneapolis, Minn., and Doris (John) Scavone of Clinton Township, Mich.; by a stepdaughter, Myrle (Harry) Blair of La Crosse; and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Pearl Solie and an infant sister, Jewel; and by three brothers, Arden, Herman, and an infant brother, Nels.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Thomas Hilliard will officiate. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Memorials may be given to the church or to Luther High School, Onalaska, Wis.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse, is assisting with the arrangements.

Wayne J. Gilbertson
TREMPEALEAU, Wis. - Wayne J. Gilbertson, 62, of Trempealeau, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at his home. He was born Nov. 26, 1936, in Arcadia, Wis., to Goodwin and Genevieve (Sobotta) Gilbertson. He married Verna G. Hanson on April 30, 1955, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Arcadia. He was co-owner of Gilbertson Trucking in Trempealeau for 35 years. Wayne was a member of St. Bartholomew Parish in Trempealeau.
Survivors include his wife, Verna of Trempealeau; three children, Michael Wayne (Cindy) of Trempealeau, Andrea Katherine (Matthew) Mlynczak of Trempealeau, and Thomas James (Janann Snider) of Winona, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Gilbertson, Angela Mlynczak, Sara Gilbertson, Christopher Gilbertson, Lance Mlynczak, Jade Gilbertson and Jared Gilbertson; and three sisters, Beverly Rojas, Mary Osley and Connie Stach, all of La Crosse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ann Marae; and a brother, Kenneth.
Wayne will be remembered as a strong, silent person who loved his family. He enjoyed many things in life, especially his dogs, and in recent years, a hobby of driving old cars. Wayne was gifted in his knowledge of mechanics. His expertise was listening to the sound of an engine and knowing immediately what the problem was. His unique abililty of mechanics was taught and shared with his sons. He will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at 1 p.m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Trempealeau. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau. The Reverend Robert Wagner will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home, Winona, and from noon until the time of Mass Thursday at the church. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Doug Wobig, Jeff Schnieder, Duane Wobig, Paul Schmit, Jim Reinarts and Bill Beach. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher, Lance and Jared. Flower girls will be his granddaughters, Jessica, Angela, Sara and Jade.

Abigail Holley Reinke
FALLBROOK, Calif. - Abigail Holley Reinke, 57, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, in Fallbrook. She was born Dec. 10, 1940, in La Crosse, Wis. She attended Campus School and graduated from La Crosse Central High School. Services were held Friday, Nov. 20 in Marine Memorial Chapel, Camp Pendleton. Burial was Monday, Nov. 30 in Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Camp Pendleton Officers' Wives Club-Abby Reinke Memorial Fund, c/o AC/S MWR Building 1561, Camp Pendleton, Calif. 92055; or Fallbrook High School Booster Club.
