Harris Albertson, 86
Harris Albertson, 86, of Hammond died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. He had been a resident at the care center since May of 1999.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1912, in Deer Park, the son of William and Anna (Oak) Albertson. He attended grade school in Deer Park and later Cloverleaf School north of Baldwin.
On March 30, 1934, he married Eleanor Albrecht at Zion Lutheran Parsonage by the Rev. Lewis in Woodville. They had two children: Donald and Pat Albertson and Patty and Donald Brathol.
Harris and Eleanor farmed for 39 years north of Woodville. He also did mechanical work at the Pontiac garage in Woodville and did carpentry work.
He worked for his brother, Norman, who had the River Falls Insulation business. He was a hard worker, always giving of himself and willing to lend a helping hand.
In the fall of 1973 Harris and Eleanor sold the farm and moved to Hammond. He accepted the job of area supervisor for the Green Thumb Program, a federally funded program that helped people over the age of 54 with general improvements in the 9-county area. He enjoyed it very much.
He was an area supervisor for 14 years. He enjoyed all sports and was the time-keeper for the Baldwin-Woodville basketball team for 17 years. He also served on the Parkview Board for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Ina and Henry Price, and Emily and Woodrow Wilson; two brothers: Norman Albertson and Willard and Thelma Albertson; and a half-sister: Alice and Score Young.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor; his daughter, Patty and Donald Brathol of Hammond; his son, Donald H. and Pat Albertson of River Falls; nine grandchildren: Mike and Kendra Albertson of Mondovi, Randy and Pam Albertson of Altoona, Dennis Albertson and Michelle Lubinski of Hudson, Sherri Albertson of River Falls, Donald W. Albertson of St. Paul, Brian Johnson of Menomonie, Daniel and Marci Johnson of Des Moines, Barry and Kara Brathol of Somerset, Adam Brathol of Hammond; seven great-grandchildren: Nicki, Peter, Jason and Missy Albertson, Patrick and Breanna Johnson and Meghan Brathol; a sister-in-law, Pearl Albertson of River Falls, and one half-brother, Alfred and Ferris Landaal of River Falls.
Funeral was to be Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church north of Woodville with the Rev. Wayne Hilgendorf officiating. Organist was Jeanne Steffen and vocalist was grandson Mike Albertson, with congregational singing.
Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Harris' grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred.
Clara E. Killian, 101
Clara Elizabeth Killian, 101, of Prescott died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at the St. Croix Care Center in Prescott.
She was born March 2, 1898, in rural Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Anna Pechacek Hrdina. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna; her husband, Raymond Killian; her sister, Millie Motl; and her great-grandson, Joshua Eggers.
She is survived by her daughters: Leona and Dwight Eggers of Cuba City, and Joan and Louis Thom of Prescott; her son: Norman and Donna Killian of Prescott; and her sister: Anna Johnson of Prescott.
Funeral was Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott, with the Fr.Thomas Mannion officiating.
Pallbearers were: Jerry Killian, Thomas Killian, Kim Eggers, Dick Gile, Randy Eggers and Butch Luedke.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Prescott.
Joan E. Hartenstein, 39
Joan E. Hartenstein, 39, of River Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital following a year long battle with melanoma skin cancer.
She was born Feb. 10, 1960, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of Norman E. and Vivian (Folsom) Olson.
She graduated from River Falls High School in 1978. She married Wade Hartenstein.
She was a senior systems analyst at Minnesota Life since 1980.
She enjoyed jogging, cross-country skiing, in-line skating, all outside activities and family activities.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Hartenstein; her son, Dustin Hartenstein; her daughter, Taryn Hartenstein; her brother, Tony and Roxanne Olson of River Falls; her sisters: Kathy Singleton of Manassas, Va., Deina Walsh of Rochester, N.Y., and Linda Jimenez of Omaha, Neb.; and many other relatives.
There was a time of remembrance on Friday evening, Oct. 1, at the Cashman Mortuary, and also at her home, on Saturday.
Robert G. Geiger, 49
Robert G. Geiger, 49, of Lafayette, La., died of cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 25, 1950, in Baldwin, the son of Eugene and Audrey (Russell) Geiger. He grew up on a farm in Spring Valley and was baptized and confirmed at Gilman Lutheran Church. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1968 and attended UW-Stout in Menomonie. Most recently he was self-employed as an independent construction contractor.
He married Marlene Weiman in Menomonie in 1969. They separated in 1979. They had one daughter, Josephine Ann.
He married Donna Quellhorst in Lafayette in 1996. They have one son, Nickolas Connor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert and Marthine Geiger and George and Astrid Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Geiger, and his son, Nickolas, both of Lafayette; a daughter, Josephine Geiger and a granddaughter, Emma Abbott, of St. Paul; his parents: Eugene and Audrey Geiger of Spring Valley; his sisters: Linda and Wayne Miklian of River Falls, Christine and Bill Hinzman of Spring Valley, and Sandra Bock of St. Joseph, Minn.; a brother: Gary Geiger of Sandwich, Ill.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral was held at Delhommer Northside Chapel on Saturday, Sept. 25, with the Rev. Spiller Milton, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
Pallbearers were Larry Sikes, Emile Henley, Todd Rayburn, Gary Geiger, Eugene Geiger and David Quellhorst.
Elaine N. McCann, 74
Elaine N. McCann, 74, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of River Falls and Webster, died Oct. 6, 1999.
She was born in El Paso on Oct. 23, 1924, the daughter of George and Hilda (Nelson) Holden.
She was a bank teller at the First National Bank for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Chandler, Ariz.; her children: Rosemary McCann of Hudson, Pat and Bruce Wisse of Wausau, and Jack and Jayne McCann of Chandler, Ariz.; five grandchildren: Matt Wisse, Kate and Mark Reineking, Laura Eastman, Brandon McCann and Aaron McCann; and one sister: Rosalie Meier of Arizona.
Funeral was Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. Bridget Catholic Church.
Burial was to be in the Martell Methodist Cemetery in Martell.
Cashman Mortuary handled arrangements.
Douglas O. Schweizer, 77
Douglas O. Schweizer, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999, at home on the family farm following a long battle with emphysema.
He was born Oct. 17, 1922, in River Falls, to Fred and Rose (Gunter) Schweizer. He worked his land in River Falls his entire life, along with working a full-time job at Con-Agra Flour Mill in Hastings, Minn.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Margaret, and a loving father to his children: Jerry, Carol, Diane, Larry, and Gary.
He enjoyed teasing his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a hard-working, proud man and was loved by everyone. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children and their spouses: Jerry and Carol, Carol and Jay, Diane and Arnie, Larry and Marty, and Gary and Kathy; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn of San Antonio.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, with a rosary service beginning at 9 a.m.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Mann Valley Cemetery.
The Cremation Society of Wisconsin is serving the family.
Vera L. Schmidt, 73
Vera L. Schmidt, 73, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility.
She was born March 26, 1926, in Bass Lake, Minn., the daughter of John and Hulda (Nimz) Hinz. She married Louis Schmidt on March 3, 1942, in Ellsworth. He died in 1995.
She worked for the Red Wing Shoe Company for a short time and for Smead Manufacturing in Hastings, Minn. She and Louis lived in the Big River area until moving to rural Ellsworth, where they farmed together.
She enjoyed crocheting, flowers and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hulda; her husband, Louis; one daughter, Donna Mae; and one brother, Floyd.
She is survived by five children: Mary Lou and Wendell Kubera of Lublin, Jerry and Jane Schmidt of Ellsworth, Jim and Kathy Schmidt of Hager City, Margaret and Ron Haugen of Ellsworth, and Arlene Schmidt and Jim Belmore of Menomonie; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four brothers: Kenneth and Betty Hinz of River Falls, Keith and Bettie Hinz of Ellsworth, Lester Hinz of Minneapolis and Gilbert Hinz of Monticello, Mo.
Funeral was Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ellsworth, with the Rev. J. Keith Trembath officiating.
Interment was in the Pine Glen Cemetery in Prescott.
