Douglas Van Damme, 51
Douglas Van Damme, 51, a doctor of veterinary medicine and partner of the Baldwin Veterinary Clinic, died Friday, July 30, 1999, as a result of a scuba diving accident in Lake Superior.
Funeral was Thursday at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin. A private interment was in the Baldwin Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the American Red Cross or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Madeline Catherine Doetkott, 86
Madeline Catherine (Sieverding) Doetkott, 86, of River Falls and a longtime Main Street businesswoman, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999, at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
She was born in Richmond, Minn., on Jan. 21, 1913, to George and Margaret (Backus) Sieverding. She married Paul Doetkott in St. Cloud, Minn., in 1934. She and Paul moved to River Falls in 1946 where they purchased the dry cleaning business located next to the theater on Main Street.
They ran the Ideal Dry Cleaning and Tailoring Shop for the next 30 years. The couple came out of retirement in 1982, purchased Cliff's Fix-it from Cliff Cole, and ran that for 8 years.
She will be missed for her sweet spirit, her love and generosity.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret; four siblings; and her husband, Paul.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Burkhardt of Minnesota; her brother, Wally Sieverding of California; her sons: Richard and Pat, Gerald and Maggie and Robert and Laura; her daughter, Judy and Larry Agema; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 12. Visitation will be prior to the Mass. The Rev. Gerald Harris and son-in-law Deacon Larry Agema will officiate.
Miriam Hendricks, 81
Miriam Hendricks, 81, of River Falls and formerly of California, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999.
She was a resident of The Lutheran Home: River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hendricks.
She is survived by a daughter, Jamie and Don Dinesen of River Falls; and grandchildren: Jason and Elizabeth.
Interment will be in Hayward, Calif.
Nelson-Murphy Funeral Home provided arrangements.
William J. Linehan, 59
William J. "Jim" Linehan, 59, of Stacy and formerly of Hudson, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie Linehan; and sisters: Dolores Weber and Joyce Roettger.
He is survived by his lifetime partner Audrey Durdin; children: Lisa and Mark Daly, Laurie and Steve Lerach, Theresa and Doug Peterson, Jennifer Linehan and Jim William Linehan; grandchildren: Krista, Kayla, Nick, Megan, Erin and Hannah; siblings: Robert and Janice, Mary Lewis, Donald and India, David and Karen and Jack and Kathy; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Ann Brewer-Sampson, 88
Ann Dravis Brewer-Sampson, 88, of River Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
She was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Prescott, the daughter of Henry and Jane Dravis. She married Clyde Brewer on Feb. 22, 1940. She later married LeRoy Sampson on May 2, 1950.
She owned and operated the Dresbach Motel and was the postmaster in Dresbach, Minn., until her retirement. She was the Past Worthy Matron of the Evening Star Post #71, Order of the Eastern Star in LaCresent, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde and LeRoy; three brothers: Wallace, Herman and Bill Dravis; six sisters: Marry Hamman, Minni Edgar, Ethel Wirth, Pearl Hamman, Ella Schnack and Celia Miller.
She is survived by one daughter, Carel Hoskins of Ottumwa, Iowa; three grandchildren: Laurie Hoskins, Randall Hoskins and Michele Londrigan; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15, at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home in Prescott. Interment of her cremated remains will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-1:30 p.m.

Timothy Wirshing, 48
Timothy Wirshing, 48, of the town of Pleasant Valley in Hammond died suddenly on Monday, Aug. 9, 1999.
He was born to Raymond E. and Marie K. Wheeler Wirshing in Milwaukee on Aug. 9, 1951. He was a special education teaching assistant at River Falls High School.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Jamie Marek; his brothers: Peter and Carol Wirshing and Tom and Marilyn Wirshing, both of Milwaukee; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Cashman Mortuary on Tuesday evening.
Funeral was at Cashman Mortuary at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11, with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating.
Leon L. Pratt, 80
Leon LeRoy Pratt, 80, of Baldwin and formerly of Hammond died of cancer Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at the Baldwin Care Center.
He was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Glenwood City, the son of Levi A. and Minnie (Prochnow) Pratt. He was educated in Emerald, Knapp and Erin Prairie.
He joined the Civil Conservation Corps and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. On June 12, 1943, he married Alice Elizabeth Perrin at Camp McCoy.
They had three children and lived on a dairy farm in Turtle Lake. They later moved to Baldwin for a short time before moving to Hammond. They moved back to Baldwin in 1998.
In addition to farming, he worked at Bark's Bakery, receiving his on-site education from Oscar Bark. After working as a baker he did milk testing in Pierce County for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.
He enjoyed fishing and collecting rocks. He and his family raised honey bees and Norwegian Elkhounds.
His favorite pastime was spending time with others. He enjoyed talking with people and sharing their company.
He was also a member of the Hammond American Legion and was most recently awarded his 50-year certificate last year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Minnie; his brother, Earl; and an infant brother, Warren.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Pratt of Baldwin; his son, Ron and Glenda Pratt of Hammond; his daughters: Cynthia and Lawrence Johnson of Hammond, and Sheila and Michael Kothbauer of Maplewood, Minn.; his grandchildren: Ann-Marie and Kevin Kirsch of Madison, Susan and Jesse Oliver of Freeland, Mich., Todd and Tara Johnson of Eau Claire, Ellen and Christopher Campion of Middleton, Peggy Johnson of River Falls, Sonja Johnson of Hammond, Jennifer and Brian Hughley of Duluth, Minn., and Terri Kothbauer of Maplewood, Minn.; a great-grandchild, Olivia Kirsch; his sisters: Eva and Lyle Schwartz of W. St. Paul, Dorothy Omen of Baldwin and Beth Marvin of Loyal.
Funeral was Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Hammond First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gary Swanson officiating. Organist was Gloria Fisk. Charles Anderson was soloist, with congregational singing.
Pallbearers were Leon's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Kirsch, Jesse Oliver, Brian Hughley, Tara Johnson, Christopher Campion and Leon's great-grandchild, Olivia.
Burial will full military honors by the Hammond American Legion was in the Hammond Cemetery.
