Pankratz, Loretta Small

Died May 3, 2001. The daughter of James P. and Mary Loughney Small, she was born May 14, 1909 at home on her father's farm in New Berlin. Her great-grandfather, William Small, had been one of New Berlin's early settlers. She attended a one-room grade school in New Berlin (Township District #5 School) and graduated from Mercy High School, Milwaukee. For 15 years, she was employed as a deputy treasurer for Waukesha County and during World War II she worked as an information specialist in the Office of Price Administration, Washington, DC. She returned to Waukesha to marry Eugene M. Pankratz on May 25, 1946. Mr. Pankratz died June 26, 1998, a few weeks after the couple celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. For many years, Mrs. Pankratz was involved in the hospital visitation ministry of St. Joseph Parish, Waukesha and, with her husband, helped tally collections. She also served several terms as treasurer of the parish Christian Women's Group. She will be sadly missed by her son, James M. Pankratz (Anne Bingham) of Wauwatosa. Beloved grandmother of Daniel and Peter Bingham-Pankratz of Wauwatosa. Further survived by dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and all her brothers and sisters: Stuart, Evelyn Casper, Victor, Norbert, Georgianna Kipp and Emmett and her grandson, Stephen Bingham-Pankratz. Visitation Sunday, May 6 from 4-8 PM. Vigil Service 7 PM at the Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave. On Mon., prayers will be at the Funeral Home at 11 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:30 AM, Fr. Michael Michalski officiating.
