Leone W. Douglas
Leone W. Douglas, formerly of St. Paul and Red Wing, Minn. died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998 at Westminster Village in Scottsdale, Ariz. She was 89.
She was born July 10, 1908, in Red wing to Carl and Jenny (Carlson) Berger. She attended Red Wing schools and worked for the Electric Co. and Red wing Potteries. She married Donald Douglas June 9, 1932 in Red Wing.
She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Lee (Maurie) Schamens of Scottsdale, and Donnette (Jay) Gritzner of Tehachapi, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews including Sandie (Don) Pearson and Donna Halvorson, all of Red Wing, and Joyce (Carl) Pearson of Ellsworth.
Preceding her in death were her husband, one daughter and one brother.
A memorial service will be Saturday at Westminster Village in Scottsdale. Interment will be at Valley Presbyterian Church.
Marian F. Westfield
Marian F. Westfield of Red Wing, Minn., formerly of Ellsworth died on Monday, Feb. 2, 1998 at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. She was 81.
She was born April 6, 1916 in River Falls, the daughter of Elmer and Mabel (Soli) Monson. She married Arnold L. Westfield Oct. 10, 1936 in River Falls. She farmed with her husband in Hartland Township and worked for the Ellsworth Care Center for nine years as a Dietary Aide.
She was an active life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and as an officer in Lutheran Women.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Westfield of Red Wing; three sons, Gordon (Sandy) Westfield of Ellsworth; Larry (Elizabeth) Westfield, Rubicon, and LeAlan (Linda) Westfield of McAllen, Tex.; one daughter -in-law, Ellen Westfield of Minnetonka, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Alton Monson, Hager City; one sister, Irene Boettcher of Cadott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Donald Westfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Rev. Carol Peterson will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home, Ellsworth on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 5-7 p.m., and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donors choice.
Armon D. "Sarge" Baker
TRIMBELLE TOWNSHIP -- Armon D. "Sarge" Baker of Thurmont, Md., formerly of Red Wing, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at his home. He was 71.
He was born July 18, 1926, in Trimbelle Township to Merle and Rosie (Downey) Baker. He attended St. Joseph's grade school. He graduated in 1944 from Central High School and served in the Navy during World War II.
He married Violet Schade of Red Wing April 12, 1947. He re-enlisted in the Army to serve during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired after 21 years of service. Following military service, he worked at Presto Industries, Eau Claire. He and his wife later relocated to Thurmont. He was a member of American Legion Post 168, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, both in Thurmont.
He is survived by: his wife; three sons, Dale (Michelle) of Chester, Va., David (Debbie) of Mount Airy, Md., and Daniel (Valerie) of Houston, Tex.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Zemke and Marlis Floen, both of Red Wing.
Memorial Mass was held Feb. 7 in Thurmont. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, "Heritage of Hope," 16150 St. Anthony Rd., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727, or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21701.

Harold C. Lunde
Harold C. Lunde, Green Bay, formerly of Oconto Falls, died Monday evening, Feb. 9, 1998, at a Green Bay hospital following a six-year illness with cancer. He was 86.
He was born March 10, 1911, in Trimbelle Township near Ellsworth to John and Lena (Thom) Lunde. He grew up in the Ellsworth area, where he attended rural schools, later graduating from Ellsworth Senior High School with the Class of 1929. He went on to attend UW-River Falls, where he majored in math and minored in music. Following graduation from college, he taught at Clayton and Trempealeau public schools.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, where he was a Tech. Sgt. for the signal corps in Northern Africa and Europe during World War II.
On Aug. 28, 1945, he married Doris Crivits in Trempealeau. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Cable and Wycoff, Minn., where he was principal and music director of the public schools. For one year, the couple owned and operated a Western Auto Store in Berlin.
While superintendent and music director at Dorchester schools, he received his masters degree in school administration from UW-Superior. Then, as principal at Mindoro and Pepin schools, he became an accredited guidance counselor. As a guidance counselor, he worked in Blanchardville, Hollandale and Argyle schools and moved to Dodgeville and studied to become a school psychologist.
In June of 1972, the couple moved to Oconto Falls, where he worked as a school psychologist for CESA III and director of the Title I program in a four-county area. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a school psychologist supervisor for CESA III.
While living in Oconto Falls, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and sang in the church choir. He was a charter member of the Oconto Falls area AARP and served as its president. He also served as treasurer of the Oconto Falls Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the American Legion Post in the communities in which he lived. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Green Bay.
He is survived by: his wife, Doris Lunde of Green Bay; one daughter, Luan Reese of Ridgeway; two grandsons, Brian and Matthew Lunde; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Arnold; two sisters, Esther and Alice; and two infant granddaughters.
Funeral was Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Jones Funeral Home, with the Revs. Karl Diemer and Roland Harswick officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Unity Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
Pearl Kroh
Pearl Kroh, a homemaker, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in Oakley. She was 78.
She was born March 29, 1919. She is a native of Ellsworth and moved to Oakley one year ago from Jackson. She loved to travel and visit.
She is survived by: her son, Ralph H. Gilbertson of Wisconsin; one daughter, Inanda Mohr of Antioch; step-daughters, Janine Griffin of Antioch and Linda Barraras of California; sisters, Mary Wheeler and Dorothy Selaya, both of Oakley; brothers, Donald P. and Kenneth D. Sheldrew, both of Oakley; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Kroh, in 1996.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, with a burial at San Joaquin National Cemetery.

Maloy Monicken
RIVER FALLS - Maloy Monicken of Hammond died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at the Park View Home in Woodville. He was 74.
He was born Jan. 1, 1924 in Rush River, the son of John and Lena (Larson) Monicken. He married Betty Holman on June 1, 1948, in the old North Rush River Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer and member of Rush River Lutheran Church in rural River Falls.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and was a good steward of the land.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Ole (Nola) of Baldwin, and John (Shelley) of Hammond; three daughters, Ellen (Arlen) Kunth of Eau Claire, Lue Ann (Michael) Croes of New Richmond, Rachel (Dan) Johnson of Knapp; one brother, Norris (Gertrude) Monicken of Baldwin; sister-in-law, Fran Monicken of Baldwin; grandchildren, Jessica, Katie, Amy, Emily, Andrea, Tim, Patrick, Angie, Carri, Betsy, Melinda, Dawn and Joshua; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsay and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena; two sisters; and two brothers.
Memorial services were Feb. 15 at Rush River Lutheran Church in the town of Martell with Pastor John Sutherland officiating. Burial was in the Rush River Cemetery.

Lois E. Peterson
PRESCOTT -- Lois E. Peterson of Prescott, formerly of Ellsworth, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Regina Medical Complex in Hastings, Minn. She was 75.
She was born on April 16, 1922, in Cataract, the daughter of Frank and Zoe Ann (Smith) Johnston.
She married Darby Peterson July 25, 1942, at St. Paul Cathedral. She lived in the Ellsworth area for 17 years and most recently in Prescott. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in River Falls.
She is survived by: one son, Bruce Peterson, Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Paulette Wolters, W. St. Paul, Minn., Diane (Tom) Gervais, North Branch, Minn., April (Pat) Loutsch, Prescott; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, James Johnston, Stillwater, Minn.; one sister, Zoe Ann (Gene) Roussopoulos, Lake City, Minn.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Darby and brothers and sister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at noon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in River Falls. Father John Beckfelt will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church form 11 a.m. to noon.
