Signa I. Larrieu, 73
SPRING VALLEY - Signa Ione Larrieu, age 73, of Spring Valley died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center.
She was born March 25, 1926, the daughter of William and Ida (Linneberg) Larson in Cady Township, St. Croix County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, where she had been a member most of her life. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley, for a number of years also.
She attended school at Spring Valley. On March 24, 1944, she married Ervin "Shorty" Larrieu at Spring Valley. They had five children: Duane, Bonnie, Bill, Tim and Tina.
She helped her husband haul milk for a few years after they were married. She also worked at Cady Cheese and farmed. She worked for Herman Gilbertson at North Central Products for a couple years and worked at the Spring Valley Health Care Center for 20 years before retiring.
She enjoyed working in the Activity Department at Spring Valley Health Care Center and won awards at art fairs for her creations.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband; two sisters, Helen Hendricks and Bernice Hanvelt; two brothers, Clarence Larson and Kenneth Larson; and one granddaughter, Amy Larrieu.
Survivors include: her three sons and two daughters, Duane (Judy) Larrieu of Spring Valley, Bonnie (Gail) Mick of Elmwood, Bill Larrieu of Durand, Tim (Claudette) Larrieu of St. Paul and Tina Cotts of Rice Lake; one sister, Elaine Noterman of Spring Valley; one brother, Henry Larson of Spring Valley; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Donnie (Renee) Larrieu of Spring Valley; one sister-in-law, Della Larson of Spring Valley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Rev. Reinhold Markwart officiated the service, with music provided by organist Linda Anderson and vocalist Dorla Holm. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley. Honorary bearers were: grandchildren, Adam, Nathan, Jamie, Michael, Amie and Sara. Pallbearers were: grandchildren Josh, Shawn, Nicky, Timmy, Jim and Lloyd.

Erland R. Otterholt, M.D., 84
SPRING VALLEY - Erland R. Otterholt, M.D., 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1915, at Chetek, the son of Edward and Clara (Hegna) Otterholt. He attended Chetek Public School and was graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Ia., in 1938, and from the UW School of Medicine in 1942.
On March 27, 1943, he married Thelma Thompson of Spring Valley at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley.
After an internship at the California Hospital in Los Angeles, he was associated with Dr. R.C. Hartman of Janesville in the general practice of medicine. He then returned to Los Angeles for his specialty residency, after which he became associated with the Pember-Nuzu Clinic (now the Janesville Riverview Clinic) in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. This association continued, except for two years of military service, until his complete retirement in 1983. As a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he served one year each at the 98th General Hospital in Munich and the 5 General Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany, where he was Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section.
Since 1948, he has been a member of First Lutheran Church in Janesville. He was a member and past president of the Mercy Hospital Medical Staff, belonged to the Rock County and the Wisconsin Medical Societies, and the American Medical Association. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Norland Lodge #544 of the Sons of Norway lists him as a charter member. He was also a member of the Blackhawk Golden K Kiwanis Club. Related to an earlier hobby, he had membership in the American Numismatic Association, and related to a hobby in genealogy were memberships in the Telelag of America and the Gudbrandsdalslag. He also enjoyed reading, listening to mostly classic music, volunteer work and home maintenance.
They lived in Janesville for many years. They moved to Decorah in November 1999 and he then became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home.
He is survived by: his wife, Thelma; a son, Gary of Wisconsin Dells; one daughter, Karen (James) Ehrie of Decorah; two granddaughters, Kjersti Ehrie of Kansas City, Mo., and Mari (Greg) Lewey of Waukon, Ia.; two sisters, Beulah Hanson of Bremerton, Wash., and Clarice Braa of Longview, Wash.; one brother, George of Eau Claire; one sister-in-law, Jean (Arthur) Barber of Richland, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Dr. Ernest; and one sister, Ethel Karow.
Memorials may be given to, in Janesville, the First Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army, and in Decorah, the Aase Haugen Home.
A memorial service will be held in Janesville at a later date.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 17, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Harold D. Ellenberger, 69
MAIDEN ROCK - Harold D. Ellenberger, age 69, of Maiden Rock died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Nelson to Wallace and Anna (Beck) Ellenberger. On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Arlene Hagner in Pepin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a past member of the VFW Post 6201 of Nelson.
Survivors include: his wife, Arlene of Maiden Rock; one daughter, Anna (David) Black of Durand; five sons, Dan (Barb) Ellenberger of Stockholm, Lawrence Ellenberger and Kenneth Ellenberger of Maiden Rock, Russell (Karla) Ellenberger of Durand and James (Jodie) Ellenberger of Durand; and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, one son, one granddaughter, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at the Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home in Alma. Rev. Joel Anderson will officiate. Burial with Military Rites by VFW Post 6201 of Nelson will be in the Nelson Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home in Alma.

James F. Dollahon, 38
RIVER FALLS - James "Jim" F. Dollahon, 38, died suddenly Feb. 25, 2000, at his home in River Falls.
The son of Dr. Jim and Kathryn Dollahon, he was born Sept. 7, 1961, in Hudson. On Sept. 26, 1987, he married Julie Miller. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1980 and attended UW-River Falls.
He was hired by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department in 1984. He worked as the recreation/water patrol officer and was an investigator at the time of his death.
He was a member of the River Falls United Methodist Church, River Falls Lions Club and Theta Chi Fraternity. He was a former president of the Lions Club and received its Outstanding Leader award.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by: his wife, Julie; mother, Kathryn Dollahon of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and David Bartholet, Golden Valley, Minn.; and niece, Katy.
Visitation was held Monday at Ezekiel Lutheran Church. The funeral was to be Tuesday at Ezekiel with the Revs. Larry McCann and Jenny Arneson officiating.
Pallbearers were to be: Kevin Gehler, Jack Sondergard, Darrel Waldera, Dave Bartholet, Scott Brownell, Neil Gulbranson, Phil Deiss and Erick Roeske.
Memorial donations may be made to the James F. Dollahon Memorial Fund.

Doris B. Moran, 88
PLUM CITY - Doris B. Moran, age 88, of Arkansaw died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.
She was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Dunn County, the daughter of Archie Herbst and Helen Ann Murry. On Feb. 18, 1933, she married John William Moran in Ellsworth. He died Dec. 12, 1963, in Minnesota. They lived their early married life in Ellsworth.
She was a foster mother for several young boys, and a Job's Daughters advisor. She was active in Arkansaw United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling with the youth group on several trips. She also belonged to Pepin County Homemakers, Old Settlers and Coalition of Wisconsin Aging. She was on the Pepin County Housing Authority Board and the Pepin County Advisory Committee for Nutritional Program.
She enjoyed sewing, making much of her children's clothing as they grew up, loved to go fishing and continued to enjoy bowling throughout her life.
She is survived by: a son, Matt Vasquez; daughters, Mickey Franzmeier and Billie (Patrick) Brown; brother, Troy (LaVina) Herbst; sister-in-law, Ruth Herbst; and brother-in-law, Arthur Richard Moran. She has 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, John William; a son, John William Jr. and his wife Barbara; a daughter, Patricia Wonsettler; three sisters, one brother and one sister-in-law.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 26, at Arkansaw United Methodist Church in Arkansaw. Burial was in Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery.

Bernice F. Berger, 69
SPRING VALLEY - Bernice F. Berger, age 69, of Baldwin died at her brother's home near Somerset on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000.
She was born May 6, 1930, the daughter of Aloysius and Margaret (Budden) Schachtner at Carroll, Ia. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley, since 1979. She attended Lohrville High School in Iowa and St. Anthony's School of Nursing. She trained as a nurse and became an L.P.N.
On Sept. 26, 1950, she married Arnold Berger at Churdan, Ia. They moved to Baldwin in March in 1979 and raised a family of nine children.
Survivors include: her nine children, Stephen (Deborah) Berger of Monroe, Lucinda (Duane) Bauer of Baldwin, Cecilia (John) DeGenova of Frankenmuth, Mich., Diane Berger of Somerset, Martin (Annette) Berger of Somerset, Theresa (Brent) Nelson of Fort Atkinson, Lawrence (Pam) Berger of Beloit, Gregory (Kris) Berger of Baldwin and Charlotte (Martin) Sloan of Chetek; 25 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Margaret (John) Meiners of Templeton, Ia.; two brothers, Harold (Jean) Schachtner of Somerset and Gerald (Helen) Schachtner of Badger, Ia.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Arnold; infant daughter, Sharon Rose; granddaughter, Anna DeGenova; four brothers, Fred, Wilfred, Lawrence and Robert Schachtner; and one sister, Mary Schachtner.
Funeral service was Thursday, Feb. 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley. Fr. Varkey Velickakathu officiated the service, assisted by Brett Swearingen. Music was provided by organist Ellen Rominski and the Sacred Heart Choir. Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Spring Valley. Bearers were: Daniel Herbers, Bruce Timm, Daryl Henkenius, James Meiners, Gary Schachtner and Harold Schachtner, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Heart Home Care Network-Hospice, P.O. Box 487, Hammond 54016.

Arnold H. Augustine, 90
Arnold H. Augustine, 90, Goodhue, Minn., died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Fairview Seminary Home.
The son of John and Mary (Vollmers) Augustine, he was born Jan. 4, 1910, in Belvidere Township (Minn.), where he attended rural school for four years prior to his family moving into Red Wing. He graduated from Central High School, Red Wing, in 1930. The family returned to the farm in 1934. He married Elda Matthews June 17, 1939, in Goodhue and they farmed until moving to Goodhue in 1973. He served on the Belvidere (Minn.) Town Board and the former Bellechester (Minn.) Creamery Board. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Goodhue, where he served on the council. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
He is survived by: his wife; two sons, John (Kathy) of Goodhue and Glenn (JoEllen) of Rochester, Minn.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond of Goodhue; and one sister, Lydia Berktold of Ellsworth.
Funeral was Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Goodhue, with the Rev. Dallas Miller officiating. Pallbearers were: J. Philip, Kim, Nathan, David and Sara Augustine, Christa and Abraham Zanto, and Michelle and Aaron Jaeger. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the church or donor's choice.
