Pamela Jo Williams, 39
PRESCOTT - Pamela Jo Williams, age 39, of Prescott and formerly of Tripoli, Ia., died on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at her home. The cause of death is being investigated by the Pierce County Coroner.
She was born on Nov. 10, 1960, at Waterloo, Ia., the daughter of Llewellyn Everett and Rosalie S.J. (Murphy) Williams, Sr. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1979. She had attended D.O.T. Road Construction classes and helped construct I-380 in Waterloo. She also helped build the Belle Plaine Waste Plant until she had to leave construction work due to an injury. She moved to Hastings, Minn., where she did janitorial work for eight years and was then employed by NTEK for eight years. She had moved to Prescott one year ago.
She was an active member of the AFL-CIO.
She is survived by: her parents, L.E. and Rosalie Williams, Sr. of Tripoli; two sisters, Wanda Williams Tiedt of Dunkerton and Victoria Lynn Hesse of Waverly; two brothers, Lew Williams, Jr. and Daryle Williams both of Welch, Minn.; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents.
Funeral service was to be Tuesday, Feb. 29, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, Ia., with Rev. Robert Dagit officiating. Burial was to be in Fremont Township Cemetery, Winthrop, Ia.

George E. Lee, 84
George E. Lee, age 84, of Ellsworth died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the Ellsworth Care Center.
He was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Rock Elm Township, the son of Harry and Anna (Wild) Lee.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; two brothers, Therman and Eldon; two sisters, Alice Johnson and Mildred Gehn.
Services were to be Tuesday, Feb. 29, at the Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Rev. David Eaton was to officiate. Interment was to be in the Rock Elm Cemetery.
Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services handled arrangements.

Darlene N. Johnson, 62
Darlene Nona Johnson, age 62, Red Wing, died Thursday Feb. 24, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 17, 1938, in Red Wing to Albert and Mildred (Van Schaick) Bartz and graduated in 1956 from Ellsworth Senior High School. She married LaVerne "Louie" Johnson June 29, 1957, in Red Wing. He died Sept. 2, 1991. She worked at Red Wing Industries and then at Red Wing Shoe Company for 30 years, retiring in 1999 for health reasons. A member of Pocahontas Nakomis Council 27, she enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards.
She is survived by: one daughter, Darla Johnson (Mike Olson) of Red Wing; two sons, Kevin (Diane) of Lake City, Minn., and Keith (Lisa Moe) of Red Wing; her father of Bay City; four grandchildren; four brothers, Allen (Cecelia) Bartz of Las Cruces, N.M., Kenneth Bartz of Elmwood, John (Debby) Bartz of Red Wing and Robert Bartz of Ellsworth; five sisters, Shirley (James) King of Elmwood, Geri Fassett of Bay City, Lori (Arlen) McKinley of Red Wing, Sandy (Tom) Jones of New Richmond and Sheryl (Brett) Schuetzle of Red Wing.
Preceding her in death were: her husband; her mother; two brothers, Richard and Albert Bartz, Jr.; and one sister, Caroll Bartz.
Memorial service was to be Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Stehr officiating. Burial was to be in Oakwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were to be: Eric Olson, Nicholas, Annah and Sarah Johnson. Memorials are preferred to Red Wing Regional Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Lloyd 'Butch' F. Glass, 78
Lloyd "Butch" F. Glass, age 78, Ellsworth, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Ellsworth Care Center.
The son of Edd and Della (Fox) Glass, he was born June 23, 1921, in Rock Elm Township. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Florence Osterland in 1947 in Red Wing. A lineman for the Pierce-Pepin Electric Cooperative for 38 years, he was honored by the International Electrical Workers for saving a life. Active in civic affairs, he served on the Ellsworth School Board, was a 44-year member of Kinne-Engelhart American Legion Post, and Pierce County 40 & 8. He was a long-time member of the Ellsworth United Methodist Church. He recently was honored for 50 years in Hancock Lodge #229 F & AM.
A hobby farmer, he enjoyed horses, picking butter nuts and playing cards. He was a devoted family man and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by: three children, Lana Glass-Smirnov of Red Wing, Tom of Red Wing and Dell of Chetek; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne Kemp of Mendota Heights, Minn.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; one son, Duward Schulte; a great-granddaughter; and one sister, Delores Kees.
Funeral was Monday at Hill Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Ellsworth, with the Rev. Bruce Stunkard officiating. Burial of cremains was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth.

Father Vernon S. Alden, 69
Father Vernon S. Alden died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000.
He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Ellsworth, the son of the late Victor and Evelyn (Polk) Alden. He was educated at schools in Ellsworth and Prep School in Minnesota for the Crozier Order. He earned his Ph.D., A.B.D. in economics from the University of Fordham.
He was the husband of Grace (Dechant) Alden. They resided on Colfax Road in the Town of Jackson.
He worked as an economist for the Chemical Bank, now part of the Chase Manhattan Bank, in New York City for 23 years.
He was received as an Episcopal Priest in July of 1999 at the Episcopal Cathedral in Albany, N.Y. He had been the priest in charge of St. Mark's Episcopal Church since that time. He also served as the treasurer for the Washington County Historical Society and was a chaplain at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. He was a member of the Ashlar Masons in Greenwich, N.Y., where he was a Past Master. Other interests that he enjoyed were oil painting and taking rides in the country on his motorcycle.
Survivors include: his wife, Grace; two sons, Mark Alden of Hohokus, N.J., and Paul (Paige) Alden of Monroe, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Lydia Hallard of Brooklin, Ontario, Canada; two stepsons, Peter Talbot of Harrison, N.J., and Andrew Talbot of St. James, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas (Bernardine) Alden of St. Paul; a sister, Mary Kinney of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews.
He laid in state on Monday, Feb. 21, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The funeral Mass was to be Tuesday, Feb. 22, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with Bishop Daniel Herzog conducting the service. Burial will be in the spring at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mark's Episcopal Church or to the American Heart Association.

Alan E. Anderson, 48
BAY CITY - Alan Emil Anderson, age 48, of Bay City died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Regions Medical Center in St. Paul as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born June 13, 1951, in Plum City, the son of Lloyd and M. Ruth (Sundvall) Anderson. He attended school in Pepin. He married Cynthia Carrels at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, Minn., on Oct. 26, 1974. He began working at the Red Wing Shoe Company on Aug. 4, 1975, until the present. He was the shop chairman at plant one.
He enjoyed bowling, football, especially the Packers, and watching professional sports.
He is survived by: his wife; two daughters, Angela and Alysia Anderson of Bay City; mother, M. Ruth Anderson of Pepin; one brother, Gerald Anderson of Stockholm; one sister, Cathy (Mike) Roberts of Arkansaw; one grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kenneth Anderson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, at the Church of St. Joseph, with Father Thomas Walker officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Teressa E. Ward, 88
Teressa Ethel Ward, 88, Red Wing, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
She was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Rock Elm to Joseph and Myrtle (Bee) Babcock and attended schools in Rock Elm. She lived in Oregon and began a family. She moved to Ellsworth in 1955 and to Red Wing in 1961. She was a waitress at Robert's Cafe in Red Wing for more than 20 years. She enjoyed plants, animals and cooking.
She is survived by: one daughter, Bernice (Glenn) Eckhoff of Red Wing; two sons, Larry (Elaine) O'Connor of Bay City and Robert (Sharon) O'Connor of Red Wing; one sister, Bernice Lampman of Red Wing; 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were: one son, Giles Bunce; one sister, Jesse Cederberg; one brother, Bernard Babcock; and one grandson.
Funeral was Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial was Monday in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Donny Blue, Jim Burns, Glenn Eckhoff, Jerry and Scott Lampman, and Pete Peterson.
