James B. Fitzpatrick, 83
James B. Fitzpatrick, age 83, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Humble, Tex.
He was born Dec. 18, 1917, to Daniel and Gertrude Fitzpatrick in Sanish, N.D. He grew up in Ellsworth and remained there until he graduated from high school. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the Western Pacific Campaign, achieving rank of First Lieutenant.
In 1956, his family moved to Wausau and remained there until 1989. As a member of St. Mary's Parish, he was active in the Serra Club, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus, in which he eventually achieved his 4th Degree. He was a resident of Kingwood, Tex., for 10 years.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and would have received his 25-year recognition as a Life Member in March, 2000.
He is survived by: his wife, Clara; his daughters, Jane Ann (Neal) Fagan of Kingwood, Colleen Ann (Stephen) Sylvester of Tampa, Fla., Maureen Ann (Robert) Phrank of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Mary Ellen (Gary) Teletzke of Sugarland, Tex.; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Jan. 26 at St. Martha Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Berlowski officiating.
Alice C. Eaton, 96
SPRING VALLEY - Alice Caroline Eaton, age 96, of Baldwin died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Baldwin Care Center.
She was born May 3, 1903, the daughter of George A. and Caroline Davis at Braddock, N.D. She was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Baldwin.
On June 8, 1927, she married Neil Eaton. They were married at the Pete Ofstie farm in Gilman Township and celebrated 53 years of marriage before his death. They lived and worked on the Ofstie farm in Gilman. They moved to North Dakota for a few years and came back to farm in Gilman. They also lived at Montevideo, Minn., Pierpont, S.D., and then in the Baldwin and Spring Valley areas. She was a resident of the Baldwin Care Center for about the past six years.
She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She was always cooking and provided her family with rosettes at Christmas. She was also a helpful neighbor and helped shovel driveways for her neighbors.
Survivors include: one daughter and one son, Lois (Raymond) Harshman of Menomonie and Wes (Rosemary) Eaton of Chetek; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Neil; two grandsons, Raymond Harshman, Jr. and Christ Harshman; and one great-grandson, Richard Dale Sandborg.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 31, at Peace Lutheran Church, Baldwin. Rev. John Hanson officiated the service with music provided by organist Julie Hanson and vocalist Steve Thompson. Burial was in Peach Lutheran Cemetery. Bearers were: grandsons, Evan, Eugene, Bill, Randy and Ward Harshman, and great-grandson, Jesse Harshman.

Earl E. Svec, 89
Earl E. Svec, age 89, died in a car accident in Lake Elmo, Minn., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000.
He was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Pierce County, the son of Dominic and Emma (Johnson) Svec. He farmed nearly his entire life in Trimbelle and loved it.
He married Mable Johnson May 17, 1950. They moved to Ellsworth in 1998. He still kept up his gardening and supplied his neighbors with fresh vegetables. They played cards several nights a week with friends. They, along with Herb and Arlene Armbruster, volunteered every Tuesday morning at the Ellsworth Care Center. In 1995, they were presented Volunteer of the Year Awards from Gov. Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife, Mabel of Ellsworth; a large extended family; and several nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly and will miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Hill Funeral Home in Ellsworth, with Rev. Lauryl Stockness officiating. Interment of his cremains will be in the Trimbelle Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until time of service Wednesday.

Lyle E. DeLong, 89
ELMWOOD - Lyle E. DeLong, age 89, of Elmwood died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.
He was born May 30, 1910, and raised in the Eau Galle area of Dunn County. He was the son of Adam and Fanny Belle (Hoyt) DeLong. He married Arvilla York Oct. 12, 1932. After marriage, they farmed in Farm Hill area of Elmwood for two years before moving to the Rock Elm area in 1935, where they farmed. She died in 1961; he married Wilhelmena Ginsbach Oct. 13, 1962. In 1968, they purchased a farm in Spring Lake Township and moved there until her death in 1985. After her death, he moved into the Village of Elmwood, where he has remained the rest of his life.
He is survived by two daughters, Verlene (Francis) Traynor of Ellsworth and Sandra (Thomas) Pickerign of Eau Galle; one son, Anthony (Charlotte) of Menomonie; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Gibson and Hazel Hall, both of Elmwood, and Esther Lindstrom of Durand.
Special friends who cared for him which allowed him to stay in his home, Freeman Hoyt, Lois Garret and Gene Van.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; first and second wives; a daughter, Donis Dahl; two sisters, Edith DeLong and Lola Schultz; four brothers, Archie, Claude, Cyril and Shirley; twin great-granddaughters, Lakken and LaTori Harmon.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood with Rev. Varkey Velickakathu officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery-Rock Elm, rural Elmwood, in the spring.
Friends were to call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Norma J. McRoberts, 63
PLUM CITY - Norma J. McRoberts, age 63, of rural Plum City died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.
She was born April 17, 1936, in Durand, the daughter of Elmer "Rube" and Myrtle (Snider) Smith. She grew up in the Weston area of Dunn County. She attended Elmwood High School.
She married William McRoberts May 5, 1954, in Plainview, Minn. After marriage, they made their home in the Eau Galle area. Together, they owned and operated the Exile Tavern for 10 years. He died in 1978 and she continued to operate the Exile Tavern until 1987. She then married Orville Abel and they later divorced. She remained living in the Exile community, enjoying her grandchildren and being a loving mother.
She is survived by: three daughters, Debby Weber (Jr. Kimmel) of Hastings, Minn., Peggy (Steve) Cameron and Joanne (Rick) Hewitt, both of Plum City; two sons, Bill McRoberts of Elmwood and Ed McRoberts of Plum City; 13 grandchildren; her mother, Myrtle Roetter of Durand; stepmother, Della Smith of Spring Valley; five sisters, Barb Sperger of Durand, May DeLong and Karen Fredrickson, both of Plum City, Neva Hutter and Carol Bignell, both of Arkansaw; two stepsisters, Connie Bauer of Pepin, Kay Strum of Spring Valley; one stepbrother, Augie Ziehl of Spring Valley; extended family, Marie McRoberts and Mark Fredrickson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by: her father; her husband; a stepfather, Ole Roetter; and a granddaughter, Carey Fredrickson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plum City with Rev. Daniel Pfaffe officiating. Burial will be in the Clearview Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Anna C. Miller, 97
Anna Christine Miller, 97, of Red Wing died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital in Red Wing.
She was born Sept. 9, 1902, in Hager City, the daughter of John and Caroline (Hoff) Hilden. She attended schools in Plainview, Minn.
In May 1923, she married Ralph E. Miller in Red Wing. They lived in Red Wing and he died in January, 1935.
In May 1944, she married Lester M. Miller in Minneapolis. They lived there for many years. He died in January of 1978.
She returned to Red Wing in 1979. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the women's groups. For the past five years, she has been a resident of the Red Wing Health Center. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and helping others.
She is survived by: two daughters, Fern Bartels of Hastings, Minn., and Millie (Jerry) Ketcham of Red Wing; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Peterson of Ellsworth; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her two husbands; one daughter, Patricia Gray; four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carol Noren officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing.
Donald J. Bishopp Sr., 65
RED WING - Donald Joseph Bishopp Sr., age 65, of Red Wing died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Fairview Hospital in Red Wing.
He worked for the MGM Studios in California for a period of years. Then, he drove semi-truck over the road for a time for Marten Transport. Then for Knutson Trucking until he retired in 1997. He drove Country Cab part-time in 1998, then went to work for K-Mart in Red Wing.
He is survived by: his wife of almost 18 years, Kimberly Kay Bishopp of Red Wing; two sons, Donald Joseph (Lisa) Bishopp Jr. of Mondovi, Nicky Robert (Dawn) Price of Eau Claire; one daughter, Melissa Ann Ammann (friend Dan Hall) of Kellogg, Minn.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsia Mae and Thomas Joseph Bishopp.
Services were held on Thursday, Dec. 30, at Kjentvet and Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi with Rev. Ron Stelzieni officiating.
