Dorothy M. Hunnicutt, 84
HAGER CITY - Dorothy Muriel Hunnicutt, age 84, of Red Wing died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Fairview Red Wing Hospital.
She was born May 21, 1915, in River Falls to Clifford and Meriel (Peterson) Symes. She graduated from River Falls High School in 1933 and then attended River Falls Teachers College for two years.
She married Milton Hunnicutt May 21, 1935, in St. Paul. The couple lived in River Falls until 1951, when they moved to Frederic. In 1960, they moved to Red Wing, where she helped run the Vogue Cleaners and Tailors, which her husband owned and operated.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in a mission with her husband in Indiana in 1981 and 1982. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and of Job's Daughters, having served as the state grand 5th Messenger and as a guardian of the group. She enjoyed counted-cross-stitching, playing piano and reading.
She is survived by: daughters, Mary Anne (Duane) Frandsen of Mesa, Ariz., Karen (Thomas) Germani of Larchmont, N.Y., Maybeth (DuWayne) Peterson of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Ellen Hunnicutt, Riverdale, Md.; one son, Steve (Denise) of Red Wing; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Symes of Cathedral City, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, who died Sept. 19, 1997.
Funeral was Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Hager City, with Bishop James Lash officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls. Memorials are preferred to the Missionary, Humanitarian or Temple fund of the church.
Arlene F. Stafford, 71
PRESCOTT - Arlene Florence Stafford, age 71, formerly of Cannon Falls, Minn., died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in Victorville, Calif.
She was born Sept. 7, 1928, in St. Paul to Julius Karl and Florence (Slama) Horning. She attended school in South St. Paul, Minn. She married Harold Stafford Aug. 12, 1950, and they lived in Cannon Falls until 1991, when they moved to California.
She was employed by the Cannon Falls Manor for a while.
She is survived by: her husband; daughter, Mary Jo (Scott) Weyand of Prescott; sister, Geri Sweeden of Apple Valley, Calif; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon.
Funeral was at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls, with the Rev. Dean Lundgren officiating. Private interment will be in the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Carmen W. Foley, 82
Carmen W. Foley of Ellsworth died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at the Ellsworth Care Center.
She was born Oct. 19, 1917, in El Paso, the daughter of John and Agnes (Langer) Foley. She was the third child of 10 and spent most of her life at home and later years at the Ellsworth Care Center.
She is survived by: one sister, Grace Johnson of Brainerd, Minn.; five brothers, Robert (Arlene) Foley of Red Wing, Walter (Ruby) Foley of Hager City, Stanley (Dorothy) Foley of Owen-Withee, Roger (Joann) Foley of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Dr. Donald Foley of Milwaukee. Further survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Florence Cotter and Sister Jerome Foley of OSB; one brother, Francis Foley.
Mass of Christian burial was Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, with Rev. Thomas Donaldson officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers were nieces and nephews.

Alvin 'Al' Nelson, 76
MARTELL TOWNSHIP - Alvin "Al" O. Nelson, age 76, of Red Wing died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born May 11, 1923, in Grand Rapids, Minn., the son of Albert and Augusta (Heinrich) Nelson. As a small child, he lived in various areas and graduated from Menomonie High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a merchant marine during WWII. He attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. On June 20, 1948, he was married to Wandie Falde at the Martell Methodist Church in Martell Township. For four years, he taught adult farmers in Norwood and Stewart, Minn. Following that, he was in Ag Sales in various locations throughout the United States. He owned and operated Faribo Farm Service in Faribault, Minn., later moving to Bedford, Pa., and Hagerstown, Md., where he was a feed salesman. He then was transferred to Englewood, Ohio, as a feed salesman and then taught Agriculture at a Vocational School, retiring in 1988. He also took computer courses at Control Data and worked a short time at a Post Office in Washington D.C. They moved to Fairfield Glade, Tenn., and lived there for eight years, moving to Red Wing in October 1996.
He was a member of First Covenant Church, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed music, especially barbershop music and traveling. He and Wandie were also ushers at the Sheldon Theatre.
He is survived by: his wife, Wandie; one daughter, Kathy (Don) Healey of Bellevue, Neb.; one son, Rick Nelson of Kettering, Ohio; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Marguerite Snesrud and Luella Zimmerman; and two brothers, Everett and Claude Nelson
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church with Rev. Richard Theilen officiating. Burial will be in the Martell Methodist Cemetery. Visitation was to be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or First Covenant Church. Pallbearers will be: Terry and Lowell Falde, Kim and Gayl Greske, Daniel and Matthew Healey.

Lee O. Gleue, 85
PLUM CITY - Lee O. Gleue, age 85, of Stockholm died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
He was born Dec. 3, 1914, in LaValle to Henry and Angeline (Ellsessar) Gleue. He graduated from Reedsburg High School.
He married Florence Wieczorek Sept. 5, 1937. After serving in both the European and Pacific theaters of World War II, he worked in the family shoe business. He operated Bisgaard's Shoe store in Albert Lea, Minn., until about 1975. He spent the last dozen years in Stockholm, where he was active in 4-H and became the Lakeview 4-H Club's "Special Grandpa." He was active in Pepin school activities and was recognized as the "No. 1 Laker Fan." He was a member of Plum City American Legion Post 365.
He is survived by: his son, Michael (Kris) of Stockholm; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one brother, Joseph of Baraboo.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986 and two brothers, Bernard and Burton.
Funeral was Thursday, Dec. 30, at St. John's Catholic Church in Plum City with the Rev. Ambrose Blenker officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona, Minn..

Margaret E. Hanken, 82
PRESCOTT - Margaret E. Hanken, age 82, of Prescott died Monday, Dec. 28, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
She was born June 27, 1917, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Schickling) McMullen and raised in St. Paul. She married Raymond J. Hanken June 10, 1944, in St. Paul.
She was a very active member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, participating in the early stages of the church's braille program. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and playing cards. She was a great housekeeper, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include: her husband, Raymond Hanken Sr. of Prescott; five children, Marcia (Larry) Rust of Hastings, Minn., Patricia (Richard) Welliver of Cottage Grove, Minn., Raymond A. Hanken Jr. of Prescott, John (Mary) Hanken of Hudson and Ruth (Tony) Ptacek of Trimont, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way. Also one brother, Douglas (Marion) McMullen of Roseville, Minn.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Douglas John; and one sister, Lucille Schutzmeister.
Services were Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Prescott with Rev. Richard Durow officiating. Interment was in Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.

Margaret L. Gwilt, 51
Margaret Louise Gwilt, age 51, of Eugene, Ore., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999.
She was born Feb. 28, 1948, in Salina, Kan., to Edward and Hazel (Rucker) Cholewinski.
She married Arthur Gwilt in South Dakota in 1970. They lived in Ellsworth from 1970-88.
She attended Eielson A.F.B. Alaska High School. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting and church work. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Springfield.
She is survived by: two sons, Larry Hein of Alexander, Va., and Edward Arthur Gwilt of Washington; and two brothers, Norman Cholewinski and David Cholewinski, both of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and a brother, Steven in 1999.
Memorial contributions are preferred to Multiple Sclerosis Society of Oregon.
