Jeffrey W. Deiss, 43
Jeffrey William Deiss, 43, died Feb. 19, 2000.
The son of William and Pat (Kealy) Deiss, he was born Nov. 1, 1956 at Hudson Hospital.
He attended St. Bridget Catholic School and River Falls High School.
He married Melanie Owens on Oct. 1, 1988 at St. Bridget Catholic Church. They have two children.
Mr. Deiss was an avid sportsman and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was employed by Cemstone Concrete Products of Hastings, Minn.
He is survived by his wife Melanie; children: Cody (9) and Kelly (7); parents: William and Pat Deiss of Danbury; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Randy and Polly Deiss of River Falls, Gary and Kathy Deiss of River Falls and Phil and Kim Deiss of Ellsworth; nieces and nephews: Jason and Jennifer, Emily and Nathan and Corey and Katie Jo; mother-in-law: Ann Lee; and sister-in-law: Gail Owens.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Bridget Catholic Church with Father Gerald Harris officiating.
Burial was at St. Bridget Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Cashman Mortuary.

Ruth Ann Benrud, 46
Ruth Ann Schaefer Benrud, 46, died Feb. 17, 2000 at United Hospital in St. Paul.
She was born Sept. 19, 1953 in Madison and married Bruce Benrud on Sept. 23, 1972.
She was employed by Northwest Airlines and has lived in the River Falls/Hudson area for the past 27 years.
Ms. Benrud is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Amy and Jeremy Sell of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two sons: Heath and Brian of Hudson; and her parents: Rolland Schaefer of Shell Lake and Peggy Shaefer of Chatham, Ill.
She is also survived by her two granddaughters: Tahneal and Tiffanie Sell; a sister and brother-in-law: Sharon and Gary Demos of Milwaukee; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Bruce and Marlene Schaefer of Eagan, Minn., Chris and Daniello Schaefer of Minneapolis and James and Nicole Schaefer of Marshfield; maternal grandmother: Emily Engel of Spooner; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Dean Benrud, sister Kathryn, brother Brian, paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
Services were held Monday at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Hudson. The funeral talk was given by Brother Steve Senrick. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Demos, Curt and Al Benrud and Bruce, Chris and Jamie Schaefer.
Arrangements were by Cashman Mortuary.

Marie A. Dusek, 83
Longtime River Falls resident Marie Anna Holmquist Dusek died Feb. 17, 2000 at the Kinnic Long Term Care nursing home. She was 83.
Services were Tuesday at St. Bridget Catholic Church.
The daughter of Mary (Danbury) and Victor Holmquist, she was born May 24, 1916 on the family farm near Elysian, Minn. She attended country school.
In 1920 the family moved to Wisconsin, where she met Norman Joseph Dusek. They were married on Sept. 28, 1943.
The couple moved to Minneapolis where Mrs. Dusek was a homemaker and her husband worked for the city sanitation department. They raised three children and were active in the Catholic church.
In 1968 the Duseks moved to Hastings, Minn., and Mrs. Dusek worked at a hospital. They lived in Lake Elmo and Woodbury, Minn., before moving to River Falls after Mr. Dusek's retirement.
When Mr. Dusek's failing health required him to move into a nursing home, Mrs. Dusek moved into WelLHaven Senior Apartments, where she frequently participated in community events. She moved to Kinnic Long Term Care in October.
Mrs. Dusek enjoyed baking, sewing and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Mrs. Dusek is survived by her husband: Norman Dusek Sr.; one son: Norman Dusek Jr. of Roberts; two daughters and their husbands: Yvonne and Wayne Brouillard of Littleton, Colo., and Karen and Robert Grubb of River Falls; two brothers: Ernest Holmquist of Waseca, Minn., and Clifford Holmquist of Ellsworth; two sisters: Irene Bennett of River Falls and Elizabeth Miller of Coon Rapids, Minn.; four grandchildren: Shelley Croes of Mankato, Minn., Valerie Frary and her husband John of Littleton, Colo., Cheryl Grubb of River Falls and Chris Brouillard and his wife Michelle of Denver, Colo.; one great-grandchild: Brittany Frary of Littleton; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Cashman Mortuary.

Esther Bowen, 94
Esther Bowen, 94, of River Falls died Feb. 14, 2000 at Kinnic Long Term Care nursing home.
The daughter of Oscar and Alma Ryberg, she was born March 7, 1905 in Shell Lake.
She married Alexander Green in October of 1921, and he died in 1943.
The Greens had five children: Gene; Marie; Marion; Joyce Catherine, who died in 1939; and Reuben Willard, who died in 1940.
Esther married Maynard Bowen in February of 1964. He died in May of 1980.
Mrs. Bowen is survived by three children and their spouses: Gene and Arline Green of Winona, Minn., Marie and James Leonard of Eau Claire and Marion and Don Robey of River Falls; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Pearl Capra of Cumberland and Adeline Kohl of River Falls; six step-children; 13 step-grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, two children and five brothers.
The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 18, at Apostolic Church with the Rev. Melvin Thacker officiating.
Interment is at Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott and Thomas Green, Ted and Jim Bowen and Jeff, Todd, Darren and Ryan Robey.
Arrangements were by Cashman Mortuary.

Evelyn M. Miller, 85
Evelyn M. Miller, 85, of River Falls died Feb. 18, 2000 at the River Falls Area Hospital.
The daughter of James and Myrtle Krupp, she was born March 11, 1914 in Michigan.
She is survived by her husband Walter, son Robert, daughter Kathryn Kramber, brother James Krupp, sister Myrtle Krupp and granddaughters.
Services were Tuesday at Cashman Mortuary with Father Gerald Harris officiating. Interment will be at St. Bridget's Cemetery, River Falls.

Tom Alton, 81
Tom Alton, 81, died Friday, Feb. 18, at River Falls Area Hospital.
The son of Clara Wallin Alton and Thomas "Roy" Leroy Alton Sr., he was born Aug. 29, 1918 on a farm in Mann Valley near River Falls.
When he was two years old, the family sold the farm and moved to a house on Elm Street. He worked in his father's grain elevator business during the Depression years and recalled later that young people of that time accepted things as they were and didn't realize they were poor.
After graduating from high school in 1936, he went to Alaska and worked at many jobs, including gold mining and road construction.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in March of 1942 and trained as a pilot. He flew 72 combat missions from North Africa to Italy and then was assigned to air transport in the Pacific for the rest of the war.
On Sept. 1, 1947 he married June Tweed, whom he had met when she attended college in River Falls and boarded in his parents' house. After their marriage, Tom and June lived in Portland, Ore., where he worked in sales for Durkee Foods.
In 1950 they move to Prairie Farm, where he worked as a partner in his wife's father's hardware store.
In 1955 Mr. Alton bought the Dodge Hardware in River Falls. He operated that store until the early 1960s when he sold the business and went to work at A.W. Lund Hardware. He retired in 1982 and June died in 1983.
He married Audrey Luberg Black in February of 1987.
Mr. Alton was an active Mason and was named Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Wisconsin in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
Mr. Alton is survived by his wife: Audrey Black Alton; children: Barbara Alton Stein, Tom Alton Jr. and Brian Alton; son-in-law: Duane Stein; daughters-in-law: Katherine Alton and Bonnie Alton; sisters: Joyce Pell, Betty Fuqua and Joan Alton; and grandchildren: Thor Daniel Stein, Mari Stein, Jessica Stein, Amanda Alton, Jack Alton, Joseph Alton and Charlie Alton.
Services were held Monday at United Church of Christ with the Rev. Del Permann officiating. Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Pierce County Historical Society or Greenwood Cemetery Association.

Maynard 'Sam' Clymer, 79
Maynard "Sam" L. Clymer, 79, of Stillwater, Minn., died Feb. 1, 2000 at Stillwater Good Samaritan, where he had been a resident since September of 1998.
The son of Milbert and Lillie (Nelson) Clymer, he was born July 4, 1920 in Afton, Minn. He attended elementary school at the Afton School House and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1938.
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged a couple of years later.
He worked for his parents, who owned the Bungalow Station in Lakeland until 1953 when they sold the business.
On June 21, 1943 he married Agnes Langlois.
Mr. Clymer worked in the shipping department of Andersen Windows for many years. He was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club and retired in 1985 at age 65. Mr. Clymer also drove flag man, overseeing oversize/overweight freight to the border. He would often take one of his girls along for company.
Mr. Clymer was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching sports on television and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes, son George, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law: Nancy and Stanley Mueller of Lakeland, Betty and James Hilpert of Roberts, Carol Widmyer of North Hudson and Cheryl and Thomas Morrow of River Falls; two sisters: Mae Burnell of Oak Park Heights, Minn., and Mable Meissner of Oakdale, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday at Memorial Lutheran Church in Afton, Minn. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeland.
Casketbearers were Michael Mueller, Joel and John Hilpert, Kyle Morrow, Ronald Widmyer and Eli Aliabouni.
Arrangements were by the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials are preferred.
