Impi Eskola
Former Brantwood area resident Impi Eskola died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at the Golden Age Rehab & Care Center in Tomahawk at the age of 98.
Born February 10, 1901, in Atlantic Mine, Michigan, to Nick and Mary Salo, she moved to the Brantwood area in 1910 where she worked as a cook for various lumber camps. Married to Waino Eskola in 1919 in Brantwood, the couple farmed and she enjoyed gardening and reading in her free time and took pride in caring for her parents, two handicapped brothers and two grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, July 24, at the Krueger & Sons Funeral Home in Tomahawk.
Mrs. Eskola is survived by two daughters, Mae Jarvi, River Grove, Illinois, and Elaine (Mrs. Lawrence) Miller, Tripoli; a son, Eugene (Dorothy), Brantwood; a sister, Mae Henderson, Brantwood; and by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Waino, in 1957.
Frank Korab
Lifelong Phillips resident Frank Adam Korab died at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls on Monday, July 26, 1999, at the age of 85.
Born in Phillips on March 5, 1914, to Joseph and Teresa Korab, he married Mary Rotar at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Phillips on June 1, 1946. He operated a dairy farm in the Town of Flambeau, was employed by Omark Industries in Prentice for 10 years and was a snowplow operator for the Town of Flambeau for many years, also serving as its clerk for a term. A member of Our Lady of the North Catholic Parish, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and snowshoeing in his free time.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the funeral mass. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips after 5 p.m. Thursday, July 29, and the parish wake service will be held there at 7 p.m.
Mr. Korab is survived by his wife, Mary; 11 children: Adam (Bernice) and Lucy Korab, both of Phillips; Paul (Cathy) Butternut; Caroline (Mrs. John) Cooley, Peter (Jane) and Dave (Judy), both of Park Falls; Ed (Bev), Moosup, Connecticut; Jim (Rosie), Green Bay; Ken, Shellville, Georgia; Art (Marjie), Plover; and Mike (Denise), Post Falls, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Rotar, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and by 32 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, John; three brothers, Jacob, John and Joseph; and by a sister, Emily.

Alice Marheine
Former Brantwood resident Alice B. Marheine died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at Riverview Rehab and Care in Tomahawk at the age of 86.
Born January 9, 1913, in Kankakee, Illinois, to William and Matie Collette, she first married Fred Marheine on January 1, 1931, in Tomahawk; he died in 1935. She then married Walter Marheine in Brantwood on July 18, 1936; he died in 1970. Mrs. Marheine was a member of the Covenant Church and the DAV Auxiliary #29, both of Tomahawk, and enjoyed gardening and reading in her free time.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 27, at Covenant Church with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was at Spirit Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Marheine is survived by a daughter, Louise Grubbs, Brantwood; six sons: Fred (Maureen), Merrick Island, Florida; Edward (Darlene), Brantwood; Theodore (Geneva), Jasper, Arkansas; Richard (Geraldine), Calera, Alabama; Paul (June), Deerfield; and Jeremiah (Lorna), Oconomowoc; three sisters, Helen Knott, Pine River, Minnesota; Margaret Denoyer, Newton, Illinois; and Ruth Shore, Tomahawk; a sister-in-law, Martha Collette, Tomahawk; and by 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two grandsons, a great-great-grandson, a son-in-law and by two brother and two sisters.

Brandon Edevold
Brandon Donald Edevold, Phillips, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at the age of 8 as the result of an ATV accident.
Born October 10, 1990, to Reinette Smolej and Danny Edevold in Milwaukee, Brandon was to have been in third grade at Phillips Elementary School this fall.
A private family memorial service was held Friday, July 30, at the Heindl Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Reiff of Saint John Luthearn Church officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Brandon is survived by his father, Danny, Milwaukee; his mother, Reinette (Mrs. Rick) Goebel, Milwaukee; his grandparents, Rosalind Smolej, Milwaukee, and Craig and Diane Malkovich, Phillips; his great-grandmothers, Betty (Arlen) Birkland and Virginia Edevold, both of Gonvict, Minnesota; and by his sister, Chrissy.
A memorial fund is being established.
Viola Mabie
Viola Mabie died July 12, 1999, at the age of 88. She was born July 18, 1910, to Albert and Melvina Gillett.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 16, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Catawba, with interment at Catawba Cemetery.
Mrs. Mabie is survived by five daughters: Evelyn (Mrs. John) Wojtowicz, Florence Miller, Hilda (Mrs. Donald) Peterson, Lillian (Mrs. Joseph) Rodano and Joyce (Mrs. Bonnie) Reed; 25 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by a brother and three sisters. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie; a grandson; a great-grandson; a son-in-law; and by six sisters.
Evelyn Helland
Evelyn Bertha Helland, Catawba, died at Pleasant View Nursing Home on Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the age of 91.
Born in Catawba on April 11, 1908, to Anton and Cecelia Halmstad, she graduated from Hawkins High School and the Price County Normal. She taught at Maple Grove School in Ogema and at Red Tile School in Catawba until her marriage to Oscar Helland in Phillips in 1928. An active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Catawba, she taught Sunday School there for over 50 years and was superintendent of its program. A long-time reporter for THE-BEE, she enjoyed painting and other arts in her free time.
The funeral was held Monday, August 2, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel De Ford of Northland Bible Church of Ladysmith officiating. Interment was at Catawba Cemetery.
Mrs. Helland is survived by two daughters, Edith Knapp, Phillips, and Lois (Mrs. Tom) Goode, Ladysmith; two sons, Ronald (Janet), Vista, California, and Gordon, Catawba; 16 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Edna Hilliard, and a brother, Maurice (Bernice), both of Catawba. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar, on January 31, 1970; two sons, Lloyd and Earl; a grandson, Larry; two sisters, Alice Shaver and Helen James; and by a brother, Oliver.

Rudolph Pepprock Sr.
Former Phillips resident Rudolph "Rudy" Pepprock Sr., Park Falls, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls at the age of 88.
Born May 4, 1911, in Brenna, Silesia, now part of Poland, to John and Eva Heler, he came with his mother to the US to Panama, Illinois, in 1922 at age 11, after his father was killed in the military during World War I. His mother married Joseph Pepprock after arriving in the US.
Mr. Pepprock spent his early life and schooling in Illinois and worked in the coal mines until 1928 when he moved to the Phillips area with his family. Here he was employed at the Cranberry Lake Corporation, then as a cheesemaker and milk hauler for the former Three Mile Cheese Factory. Married to Kathryn Fillus on June 18, 1938, in Phillips, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Flambeau for many years and he worked at the Flambeau Feed Mill in Phillips. After he retired in 1979, he was a member of the Green Thumb Project in Phillips until 1991 when he was awarded a certificate from the City of Phillips for his efforts. He moved to Park Falls in the early 1990s.
The funeral was held Wednesday, August 4, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Mr. Milton Neuhauser officiating. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery, Phil-lips.
Mr. Pepprock is survived by his wife, Kathryn; three sons: Rudy Jr. (Barbara), Stevensville, Montana; Eugene, Rogers, Arkansas; and Danny (Beth), Richfield; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Joe) Matsick, Phillips; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Frieda (Mrs. Frank) Kubac, Phillips.
