John Juenemann
Butternut resident John A. Juenemann died at St. Anne's Home in Milwaukee.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, August 14, followed by graveside services at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Butternut.
Mr. Juenemann is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. William) Schmitt, Wauwatosa, and Bonnie (Mrs. Elmer) Glaeske, Portage; a son, John (Gail); eight grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Lillian); a sister, Marcella Dwyer; and by other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose (Witkowski).
Memorials may be made to St. Anne's Home for the Elderly in Milwaukee.
Edna Knight
Town of Hill resident Edna E. Knight died at her home on Thursday, August 12, 1999, at the age of 83.
Born January 26, 1916, in Tampico, Illinois, to Ralph and Hilda (Olson) Pratt, she was a schoolmate of Ronald Reagan in Tampico. She married Melvin Knight in August 1932 in Tampico, moving to Wisconsin in 1944 from Dixon, Illinois. The couple farmed in both states and she drove bus for the former Leavitt Creek School and worked for the former Gem Products, a shoe factory in Rib Lake. An Avon lady, she loved to travel, spending many winters in Texas and the South. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts and fishing in her free time. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Ogema and of the Hill Homemakers Club.
The funeral service was held Monday, August 16, at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Schueler officiating. Interment was at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Westboro. Pallbearers were grandsons Joseph, John, Scott and Eric Wojcik, Rocky and Wade Knight and Keith Willms.
Mrs. Knight is survived by her husband, Melvin; three sons: Everett (Mary Jo), Arlie (Carol) and William, all of Ogema; a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Joe) Wojcik, Westboro; three sisters, Alice Blackert, Princeton, Illinois; Emma Mae Beard, Hemet, California; and Martha Plautz, Zebulon, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Alice Pratt, Profitstown, Illinois; and by 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Everett, and by a granddaughter, Laura Knight.
The Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Home, Rib Lake and Medford, served the family.
Laura Heizler
Lifelong Phillips resident Laura M. Heizler died Wednesday, August 18, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 89.
Born December 27, 1909, to Bernhardt and Mathilda (Westphal) Zacharias, she attended area schools and married Joseph Heizler on January 19, 1929, in Crown Point, Indiana. A member of Saint John Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose and the Modern Homemakers of Phillips, she was a past president of the Phillips PTA.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips with Reverend Thomas Reiff of Saint John officiating. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery.
Mrs. Heizler is survived by three daughters: Jackie (Mrs. Herman) Hoven, Madison; Kathy (Mrs. Allen) Cole, Toledo, Ohio; and Gloria "Jeanie" (Mrs. Randall) Anderson, Medford; three sons: Ronald (Marion "Mickey"), Lloyd (Susan) and Joe (Roseanne), all of Phillips; 25 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman (Lola), Genoa; and by three sisters: Elsie Stockel, Rockford, Illinois; Martha (Mrs. John) Bogatitus, Walls, Mississippi; and Gertrude Kenyon, Phillips. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, on September 3, 1985; a daughter, Carol; and by a brother, Bernard.
The Heindl Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Lingen
Robert Milton Lingen, Medford, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999, under the care of Hope Hospice at Memorial Hospital in Medford at the age of 78.
Born September 27, 1920, in Stanley to Ole and Anna (Larson) Lingen, he served in the US Army during World War II and married Helen Tesch on March 23, 1943, in Tampa, Florida. A member of the First Lutheran Church of Ogema, he was employed at Strebig Auto and at H&H Motors as a salesman and serviceman and enjoyed the outdoors and being with his family in his free time.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 25, at First Lutheran Church in Ogema with Reverend Jerome Godson officiating. Cremains were interred at Hillside Cemetery, Ogema.
Mr. Lingen is survived by his wife, Helen; four sons: Gary, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Thomas (Kathryn), Cumberland; Kenneth (Susan), Medford; and Charles (Laurie), Birmingham, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Lingen, Milwaukee; 13 grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Bennett, on February 10, 1994, and by a granddaughter, Emily Lingen, on May 16, 1999.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, Rib Lake.
The Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Rib Lake and Medford served the family.
Earl Alden
Former Price County resident Earl W. Alden Sr., Tomah, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at Franciscan-Skemp Healthcare Center in La Crosse at the age of 84.
Born June 12, 1915, to Eugene and Myrtle May (Locks) Alden near Phillips, he was a farmer for most of his life and was married to Helen Belan.
The funeral was held Thursday, September 2, at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home in Tomah with Pastor Jon Naumann officiating. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips on Friday, September 3.
Mr. Alden is survived by three daughters: Joyce (Mrs. Howard) Heller, Rice Lake; Patricia (Mrs. William) Karpenski, Rockport, Texas; and Jan Shay, Downsville; four sons: Richard (Kathryn), Tomah; Earl Jr. (Patty), McKinney, Texas; William (Ruth), Nevis, Minnesota; and Daniel, St. Paul, Minnesota; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Helen, in November 1993; a son, Robert; an infant son, John; and by 12 siblings.
Joseph Sukala
Longtime Phillips resident Joseph Peter Sukala died Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 90.
Born November 1, 1908, in Milwaukee to Louis and Emily (Osterman) Sukala, he spent his early life and schooling in the Phillips area and worked at the CCC camp at Riley Lake until his marriage to June Bolz on November 1, 1930. He then worked at the former West Lumber Company in the Town of Flambeau until 1957 when the couple moved to Baraboo. There he worked as a carpenter for various contractors in the area until retirement in 1972. The couple returned to Phillips in 1996 and he was a member of Our Lady of the North Catholic Parish, the ZCBJ Western Fraternal Lodge of Phillips and the Wisconsin Carpenters Union.
The funeral was held Saturday, September 4, at Our Lady of the North-St. Mary's Building with Father Gerald Hagen officiating. Interment was at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Mr. Sukala is survived by his wife June; two daughters, Bertha (Mrs. James) Robinson, Phillips, and Beverley Helms, Madison; two sons, Stephen (Ima) and Joseph, both of Baraboo; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Joseph) Kolar, Clareton Heights, Illinois, and Leola (Mrs. Fred) Born, Baraboo. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
The Heindl Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Esther DeYoung
Esther DeYoung died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at the South Park Nursing Home in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 98.
Born in Paxton, Illinois, on August 25, 1901, to John and Anna Kroon, she was married to Scott DeYoung and was employed in many department stores in the Chicago and Skokie, Illinois, areas. After retirement, she volunteered for many political figures in Skokie, moving to Shreveport in 1987.
Cremains were buried in Ogema.
