Sheila Haut
Former Phillips and Park Falls resident Sheila "Shy" Haut has died in Nevada.
Born July 28, 1944, in Phillips, to Vernon and Marie (Huml) Cummings, her father died in World War II and her mother later married William Wocelka. Shy was raised in Park Falls, attended St. Anthony's Catholic School and graduated from Park Falls High School in 1962, then from beauty college. Married to Kenneth Haut in Milwaukee on Sept. 28, 1968, they moved to Idaho in 1969 where she was employed at the state youth services center and the Silver Horseshoe. The family moved to Green Valley, Arizona, in 1984 where they operated a bakery, then to Elko, Nevada, in 1986 to work in the mining industry.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Emery Cemetery with Father Gerald Hagen of Our Lady of the North Parish officiating.
Mrs. Haut is survived by her husband, Kenneth; two daughters, Shannon and Nicole; two grandchildren; two sisters, Laverne Cummings, Green Valley, and Rosie (Mrs. Lee) Powell, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother, William (Ditty) Wocelka Jr., Glenrock, Wyoming; and by a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents.
Leo Heikkinen
Longtime Price County resident Leo Leonard Heikkinen, Prentice, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield at the age of 82.
Born June 11, 1917, in Brantwood to Kalle and Katri (Yrjola) Heikkinen, he graduated from Tripoli High School, Class of 1935, and married Norma Pokela on June 24, 1941, in Phillips. The couple lived in the Milwaukee area from 1941-45 when they returned to the Prentice area. They owned and operated Heikkinen Machine Shop until 1959 when they began Prentice Hydraulics, operating the business until it was purchased by Omark Industries in 1967, when they retired. After retirement, he was employed in the research and development department at Omark and actively involved in the organization of Multitek, now owned by his sons. A member of the First Lutheran Church of Prentice, a charter member of the Prentice Lions Club and actively involved in Prentice area affairs, he received many awards over the years, the most recent his induction into the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame this year.
The funeral was held Sunday, Sept. 12, at Prentice High School with Pastor Timothy Schueler of the First Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was at Prentice Cemetery.
Mr. Heikkinen is survived by his wife, Norma; three sons: Dale (Pat), Norman (Dawn) and Howard (Jane), all of Prentice; a daughter, Bonnie (Mrs. Dave) Blomberg, Ogema; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Carl (Marie) and William (Marvel), both of Brantwood; two sisters, Ingrid Vilkaitis, Avon Park, Florida, and Lila (Mrs. Jim) Stallwood, Palatine, Illinois; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant brother, three brothers and a sister.
A memorial fund is being established.

William Nikkila
William Arnold Nikkila, Ogema, died in the Medford Long Term Care in Medford on Monday, Sept. 13, at the age of 87.
Born in Ogema on April 15, 1912, the son of Walter and Lena (Kangas) Nikkila. He was confirmed in the former Lutheran Church in the Town of Hill and attended the Levitt Creek School. He helped on the family farm in the Town of Hill and later went to Milwaukee where he worked at Grueder, Preskae and Fry Company for 25 years as a welder. He also worked on road construction in the Wausau area.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice with Pastor Jerome Godson of the First Lutheran Church of Ogema officiating. Enurnment will be in the Levitt Creek Cemetery in the Town of Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Mr. Nikkila is survived by five brothers, Roy (Bernice), Melvin (Violet) and Carl, all of Ogema, Clarence (Nita), Westboro, and Ernest, Rib Lake; by one sister, Mildred Hauser, Falls Church, Virginia; and by two generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Pearl, Alice and Florence, and by one brother Harold.

Richard Partlow
Former Prentice and Menomonie resident Richard "Rich" A. Partlow, Eau Claire, died at his home on Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at the age of 55.
Born Nov. 15, 1943, to Lincoln and Viola (Hamilton) Partlow in Eau Claire, he married Judith Hanshus on Oct. 26, 1968, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He was employed at H&L Men's Shop in Eau Claire, then for 22 years in banking in Menomonie and four years in Prentice where he retired as president of the Community State Bank in 1998. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Eau Claire, serving as secretary and treasurer, a charter president of the Menomonie Optimist Club and a member of the United Cerebral Palsy Board, he also served on the council at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, a member of the Menomonie Chamber of Commerce, the Menomonie Kiwanis and the Prentice Lions Club.
Memorial services were held Monday, Sept. 13, at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial was at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Partlow is survived by his wife, Judy; a son, Scot (Dean Kralios), Seattle, Washington; a daughter, Melissa Partlow Mathews (Michael Richard), Eau Claire; three brothers: Gerald (Carol), Oakdale, Minnesota, and Donald (Sue) and Tom (Barb), both of Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Louise Partlow, Altoona ; his mother-in-law, Gail Hanshus, Eau Claire; a brother-in-law, Jon (Peggy) Hanshus, North Quincy, Massachusetts; and by aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Leol; a nephew, Jon Hanshus Jr.; his father-in-law, Jerome Hanshus; and by several aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
Judith Blong
Judith Josephine Blong, Prentice, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Wausau Hospital Center, Wausau, at the age of 76.
Born Aug. 18, 1923, in Milwaukee to Adam and Josephine Magejki, she married Francis Blong on Aug. 7, 1948, in Milwaukee, where they spent most of their married life. After retirement in 1984, the couple moved to Prentice where she was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
A graveside service was held Friday, Sept. 24, at Prentice Cemetery with Father Dismas Kalcic officiating.
Mrs. Blong is survived by two sons, Patrick, Prentice, and Michael, Milwaukee; two daughters, Barbara, Milwaukee, and Kathleen, New Orleans, Louisiana; a granddaughter; and by a sister, Gene, Milwaukee. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, on Jan. 10, 1987; a granddaughter, Sabrina; a brother, Gordon; and by two sisters, Dorothy and Florence.

Harvey Curran
Harvey Frederick Curran, Phillips, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 100.
Born April 23, 1899, in Rib Lake to William and Helen (Pagel) Curran, he came to Phillips with his family as a child in 1901, attending school here. He served in the US Navy from 1916-22, then worked in Milwaukee for a time before moving to Alaska where he logged and trapped, retiring from there in 1965. He then lived in Michigan, Wisconsin and Washington, returning to Phillips in 1978. He was a member of the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post 122 and the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post 5778.
The funeral was held Friday, Sept. 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Phillips with Pastor Gary Lodholz officiating. Military honors were by the Frank and Michael Baran VFW Post 5778 and the Lane-Kreiling American Legion Post 122. Inurnment will be at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Curran is survived by a sister, Florence Stichter, Phillips, and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Victor, Earl, John and Clinton, and by a sister, Sara Harris.

Alonzo Freeman
Longtime Brantwood resident Alonzo A. Freeman died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at his home at the age of 74.
Born February 20, 1925, in Spirit Falls to Alonzo and Alma (McConnel) Freeman Sr., he served in the US Army 29th Infantry, receiving the Purple Heart in World War II. Married to Barbara Krombholz on June 8, 1950, the couple farmed in the Brantwood area and he worked as a carpenter, logger and welder.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Spirit Baptist Church with Pastor Dick Wohler officiating. Burial was at Spirit Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters: Diane Brown, Lawton, Oklahoma; Gloria (Mrs. John) Jagodinski, Wausau; and Helen (Mrs. Michael) Bacholl, Prentice; three sons: Charles, Frederick (Judy) and Alonzo "Lonnie" (Melissa), all of Brantwood; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters: Charlott Jayjock, Sparta, New Jersey; Dorothy (Mrs. William) Cloke, Walla Walla, Washington; Edith (Mrs. Walter) Kalander, Prentice; and Patsy Hanson, Merrill; and by a brother, William (Shirley), Loveland, Colorado. He was predeceased by a son, Edward, and by a sister.
