Violet Kersten
Phillips resident Violet H. Kersten died at Pleasant View Nursing Home on Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at the age of 88.
Born May 1, 1911, in Green Grove to Harry and Bertha Jens, she was a 1921 graduate of Unity High School. She married Paul H. Kersten on May 29, 1935, in Milwaukee, and the couple lived in Colby, Illinois and Delaware before retiring in Phillips in 1969. A member of Our Lady of the North Catholic Church and of the Merry Homemakers Club, she enjoyed sewing and crafts in her free time.
The funeral was held Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Our Lady of the North with Father Gerald Hagen celebrating the funeral mass. Interment was at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Mrs. Kersten is survived by a daughter, Polly Anderson, Phillips; a son, Philip (Gail), Phillips; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and by a brother, Lester (Wanda), Phillips. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, on April 22, 1970, and by two sisters, Esther and Pearl.

Emily Lingen
Emily Susan Lingen, St. Paul, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on May 16, 1999, at the age of 20.
A celebration of Emily's life was held Saturday, May 22, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota in Minneapolis, with private interment.
Ms. Lingen is survived by her parents, Gary and Linda Lingen, St. Paul; her grandparents, Minda Pitt, Eau Claire, and Robert and Helen Lingen, Medford; aunts and uncles, including Kenneth and Susan Lingen, Medford; and by other relatives and friends.
Brian Moen
Phillips resident Brian K. Moen died Monday, May 17, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield at the age of 34.
Born August 5, 1964, in Wisconsin Rapids to Kenneth and Carol (Lord) Moen, he married Tina Neyens on August 24, 1996, in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services were held Friday, May 21, at Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids with Reverend William Menzel officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids.
Mr. Moen is survived by his wife, Tina, Wisconsin Rapids; his mother, Carol Moen, Phillips; his grandparents, Ruth Moen, Marshfield, and Ervin and Florence Lord, Phillips; a brother, Scott (Kim), Wisconsin Rapids; and by two sisters, Susan (Mrs. Robert) Peckham, Wisconsin Rapids, and Tina (Brian Herlache) Moen, Shawano. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth; his grandfather, Magnus Moen; and by two brothers, Kenneth Jr. and Harold.
Magdalena Patzer
Former Prentice and Tomahawk resident Magdalena Patzer, Ogema, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at the Blomberg residence under Hope Hospice care at the age of 80.
Born August 26, 1918, in Augsburg Bavaria, Germany, to Richard and Maria (Staudinger) Gottschalt, she married Martin Erdle Sr. there in 1941. She came to the US to the Prentice area in 1957 and married Alfred Denzine in 1958. The couple lived in Prentice until 1965 when she moved to Milwaukee and married Arnold Patzer in 1967. The couple lived there until retirement in 1982 when they moved to the Tom-ahawk area.
A memorial service was held Thursday, May 20, at the Heindl Funeral Home in Prentice with Reverend Edwin Blomberg officiating.
Mrs. Patzer is survived by a son, Martin Erdle Jr. (Carol), Prentice; a granddaughter, Heidi (Mrs. Jay) Halmstad, Catawba; a great-grandson, Brad Allan Halmstad; and by a sister, Berta (Mrs. Willie) Langegger, Germany. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold.
Leo Simones
Leo P. Simones, Prescott, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings at the age of 73.
Born April 5, 1926, in La Crosse to Dr. V. Leo and Rose (Whitby) Simones, he served in the US Navy from 1944-46 and owned and operated Leo's Landing Marina in Prescott from 1976-85. Married to Kathleen Sand, he loved his family, his wife, his dogs, Rush Limbaugh and the Republican Party.
Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott with interment at the Catholic Cemetery in La Crosse.
Mr. Simones is survived by his wife, Kathleen; five sons: Chip, Patrick and Joe, all of Prescott; C.J. (Kimberly), Farmington, Minnesota; and Ben, Anapolis, Maryland; and by three grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Thomas, Joe, John and Fred, and by a sister, Mary Desmond.
Louisa Stibs
Prentice resident Louisa Irene Stibs died at her home on Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the age of 96.
Born in Phillips December 18, 1902, to Frederick and Bertha Mayer, she worked in Milwaukee and Chicago as a young lady and married Lawrence Stibs in Bessemer, Michigan, on January 25, 1928. The couple lived in Phillips for a year before moving to Prentice where they operated a dairy farm. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Prentice and its ladies aid, she enjoyed baking, tatting, crocheting, singing and cookbooks.
The funeral was held Saturday, May 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Duane Jalas officiating. Interment was at Prentice Cemetery.
Mrs. Stibs is survived by three children, Addison, Prentice; Adeline (Mrs. Jim) Batten, Luxemburg; and Bertha (Mrs. Harold) Baker, Kennan; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister Bertha Berka, Milwaukee. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, on September 30, 1975; two brothers, Albert and Frederick; and by a sister, Pauline Mayer.

William Swanson
Phillips resident William L. Swanson died at Pleasant View Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the age of 93.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 11, 1905, to Victor and Louise Swanson, he married Iona P. Peters in Chicago on April 15, 1927. The couple moved to Phillips in 1954 where they owned and operated Swanson's Mileage Center until 1970, then the Sears Catalog Store until retirement. A member of the Phillips Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club, Mr. Swanson was also one of the founders of Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 22, at the Heindl Funeral Home with Reverend Avon Raczkowski of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery.
Mr. Swanson is survived by five sons: William Jr. (Lois), Villa Park, Illinois; Ronald (Janice), Danville, Colorado; Albert (Jean), Duluth, Minnesota; Gordon (Yvonne), Brownsville, Texas; and Donald (Tami), Syracuse, New York; three daughters: Shirley (Mrs. Roy) Person and Joan (Mrs. James) Denzine, both of Thorp, and June (Mrs. Larry) Holmes, Jonesboro, Georgia; and by 33 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Iona, on September 19, 1995; two brothers, Swen and Meyer; and by a grandson, David.
