Stuart A. Turgeson
Stuart A. Turgeson, 48, of Barron, died March 29 at his home.
Mr. Turgeson was born Aug. 19, 1948 in Rice Lake to Stanley and Luella (Kuhrt) Turgeson. He grew up in Barron and graduated from Barron High School. He entered the Army and served in Vietnam, where he was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. He worked in construction in Minneapolis and later moved to South Carolina, where he drove heavy equipment for a construction company. On Oct. 11, 1980 he married Julie Hutzler at Chetek. They later separated. Mr. Turgeson had worked at Birchwood Manufacturingin Rice Lake for 11 years and at Jerome Foods in Barron for the past 5 years. He was a member of the Barron Men's Nite Golf League.
He is survived by his mother, Luella of Barron; his daughter Brittany of Chetek; five brothers, Ronald and John of Rice Lake, Roger of Huntington, Ind., Douglas of Barron, and David of Hillsdale; nine sisters, Nancy Miller of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Rosemary Wold of Prairie Farm, and Beverly Dennis, Vicki Walker, Karen Kurschner and LuAnn Turgeson, all of Barron, Norma Lundequam of Chetek, Rebecca Ordway of Almena, and Kristy Nelson of Cameron.
Clarence Wanek
Clarence R. Wanek, 83, of Madison died at his west side home on March 16.
Mr. Wanek was born to George and Rose (Jelinek) Wanek on Aug. 28, 1913 in the Town of Bear Lake. He graduated from Rice Lake High School and the Barron County Normal School. Mr. Wanek married the former Ella Schleiss in Rice Lake in 1938 and taught school in the Rice Lake area for many years. They moved to Iron River, where he managed a feed mill, and in 1950 the couple moved to Madison, where Mr. Wanek worked in a seed lab for the Department of Agriculture and later worked as a salesman at Wolf Kubly Hardware until his retirement. Mr. Wanek enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, painting and helping neighbors with odd jobs. He treasured many trips he took with his wife, including a trip to Australia.
Survivors include his wife, Ella; and 19 nieces and nephews.
Marvin Weinkauf
Marvin Carl "Bud" Weinkauf, 82, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., died March 15 at his home.
Mr. Weinkauf was born July 22, 1914 in Wausau. He had worked in insurance for many years in Rice Lake. Mr. Weinkauf had been a longtime member and past Exalted Ruler of the Rice Lake Elks Lodge, also having served as district deputy for the state Elks Lodge. He also had been a Shriner.
He and his wife, Glady, moved from Rice Lake to Fountain Hills in 1983. Mr. Weinkauf had been active in the community and his church.
Survivors include his wife, Glady; a son, Franklin; two grandchildren; and a sister, Ina Dudley.
Mrs. J. Ethel Winkler Johnson Brozowski
Mrs. J. Ethel Winkler Johnson Brozowski, age 99, formerly of Westfield, WI, died peacefully on June 3, 2002 at The Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI.
She was born the eldest of eight children on May 12, 1903, to Mary Querns Winkler and Albert Winkler, at their home near Westfield, Wisconsin. She attended Westfield Grade School and graduated from Westfield High School in 1922. She married Frank O. Johnson on November 25, 1922, in Rockford, Illinois. They were married almost 50 years. Together they raised two daughters, Joyce and Jean, at their farm outside of Westfield. Ethel and Frank also lost a son, Jack, in childhood to meningitis following measles. In 1984 she married Joe Brozowski of Lawrence, WI. She was active in the Westfield community for many years. Ethel was a devout Christian, attending the Presbyterian and Evangelical United Brethren Churches in Westfield, and in later years maintained membership at the South Burr Oak United Methodist Church in the township of Richfield, in Adams County.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Johnson in 1972; her second husband, Joe Brozowski in 1991; her son, Jack Johnson; her daughter, Joyce Johnson Jacobs; her son-in-law, William A. Jacobs, Jr.; her brothers, Sam, Chester, and Allie; and her sisters, Carmen, Dorothy, Sara, and Bernice. Survivors include her daughter, Jean Johnson, of Fort Atkinson, WI; her grandson, William (Mina) Jacobs III of Anchorage, AK; her granddaughter, Kathleen (Robert) Michalek, of Lakeville, MN; her grandson, Timothy (Pam) Jacobs, of Eagan, MN; her granddaughter, Suzanne (Bill) Taylor, of The Woodlands, TX; her great-grandchildren; Christiaan (Kathy) Jacobs, of West Bend, WI; Rachelle Jacobs, of Chicago, IL; Annaliese (Brent) Bateman, of Anchorage, AK; Alexander Jacobs, of Anchorage, AK; Magdalene Jacobs, of Anchorage, AK; and Conner Taylor, of The Woodlands, TX; her great-great grandchildren, Althea and Erik Jacobs, of West Bend, WI., and many other family members and friends.
Visitation and funeral services will be at Roseberry’s Funeral Home and Crematory in Friendship on Friday, June 7, 2002. Visitation will be from 1pm to 3pm. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Steve Miller, will be at 3pm, followed by interment at the Westfield South Cemetery.
Barbara L. Challoner
Barbara L. Challoner, age 56, of Hancock, WI died Tuesday, June 04, 2002 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8th, 2002 at Roseberry’s Funeral Home & Crematory in Friendship. Rev. Dean Anderson will officiate. Burial to follow at the Hancock Cemetery.
Barbara was born June 11, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI to Joseph and Irma (Walker) Swiger. She married Cloice Challoner on March 24, 1962 in Hancock, WI. Besides being a mother, Barbara worked as a C.N.A. and as a connivance store manager at Friendship Citgo.
Barbara enjoyed shooting trap with her family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents (Joseph and Irma); Brothers (Carl Swiger and Benjamin Swiger); and Sisters (Ardith Linski and Alice Ann Swiger).

William (Will) R. Boksa
William (Will) R. Boksa, age 48, of Arkdale, WI died Wednesday, June 5th, 2002 following an automobile accident. He was killed by a drunk driver while traveling with his wife.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10th, 2002 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. John Krebs will officiate. Burial to follow at the South Arkdale Cemetery.
Will was born on April 14, 1954 in Chicago, IL the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Brott) Boksa. He attended West Leyden High School in Northlake, IL., Triton Junior College in Rivergrove, IL. and the University of Illinois in Bloomington, IL.
He married Bonnie Westfahl on June 26, 1986 in Ogonquit, Maine. They had one daughter, Brenda. Will was an auto-tech teacher at Adams-Friendship High School for 25 years. He enjoyed skeet shooting and was a member of the Wisconsin Skeet Shooters Association. He had numerous hobbies including fishing, camping, woodworking, and farming. He would build or fix anything, his favorite quote was, "whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t you're right." He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, he and Bonnie had a very special relationship.
Will was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph and Maria Boksa, and Ida and Vernon Brott and niece Maria Thompson.

Cecil McNulty, age 89, of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston, WI.
Visitation will be at Roseberry's Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, June 10, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Committal service will follow at the Townline Cemetery. Rev. Fairchild will officiate.
Cecil was born on March 11, 1913 in Pleasant, Kansas to Herbert and Mahala (Daniel) McNulty. He married Eula Faye Graff on May 18, 1940 in Pratt, Kansas. He then moved to Milwaukee and was a carpenter for the St. Regis Paper Company. Cecil retired in 1975 and moved to Adams County.
Cecil is preceded in death by his wife (Eula), parents (Herbert and Mahala), sister (Buelah).

John J. Kaminski, age 68, of Nekoosa, WI died Wednesday, June 12, 2002 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, 17th, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Adams. Father Dennis P. Stanchik will officiate. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI.
John was born on March 7, 1934 in Rosholt, WI the son of John and Mary (Ksioszk) Kaminski. He married Patricia S. Williams on May 9, 1959 in Milwaukee. John was a firefighter for the City of Milwaukee Fire Department for 28 years. He retired and moved to the Nekoosa area in 1991.
John enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, gardening and spending time with family. John was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus #6718, St. Joseph’s Society, and the St. Jude League.
