Gerald Krahl
Former Prentice resident Gerald E. "Jerry" Krahl, Town of Emery, died at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Phillips on Monday, April 26, 1999, at the age of 91.
Born August 27, 1907, in Prentice to Jacob and Anna Krahl, he operated a dairy farm, worked in the woods, was an electrician and was one of the first grader operators for the Town of Emery. A member of Saint John Lutheran Church, he served as a director of the Price County Telephone Company and of the Price Electric Co-op. In his free time he enjoyed dancing and fishing.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at Saint John with Reverend Thomas Reiff officiating. Interment will be at the Emery Cemetery. Friends may call at the Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Krahl is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Luella Vyskocil, and by three brothers, Jacob, Kenneth and Ervin.

Ruth Larson
Former Phillips resident Ruth V. Larson, Stillwater, Minnesota, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Greeley Healthcare Center in Stillwater after an extended illness at age 83.
Born April 10, 1916, in Phillips to George and Minnie (Johnson) Kreiling, she was well known in the community for her service at the Grand Café and at St. Croix Rexall Drug where she was affectionately known as Ruthie Rexall.
Mrs. Larson is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Mrs. George) Black, Bayport, and Arlene (Mrs. Earl) Benson, Stillwater; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley (Marge), Cheyenne, Wyoming; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, and by four brothers, Harold, Clifford, Dan and Jack.
Alice Metsala
Lifelong Brantwood resident Alice Mae Metsala died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 90.
Born January 27, 1909, in Brantwood to Erick and Selma Simola, she married Charles Metsala in Chicago, Illinois, on June 21, 1938. The couple operated the Brantwood Co-op Service Station, later purchasing a dairy farm in 1949, from which they retired in 1975. She enjoyed visiting relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Monday, April 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Prentice with Reverend Peter Sestak and Reverend Duane Jalas officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Tomahawk.
Mrs. Metsala is survived by a son, Jim (Kathleen), Vienna, Virginia; a brother, Sulo, Woodruff; and by a grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1986.

Marlitt "Red" Purdum
Former Kennan resident Marlitt D. "Red" Purdum, Middleville, Michigan, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Pennock Hospital at the age of 66.
Born March 3, 1933, in Kennan to Wilbur and Beryl (Funk) Purdum, he was raised and schooled in the area before moving to Michigan in the 1960s. He worked as an automobile body repairman most of his adult life in the Yankee Springs, Hastings, Lowell and Middleville, Michigan, areas, and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
Mr. Purdum is survived by four daughters: Melody Farwell, Merrill; Stephanie (Mrs. Harry) Hutchinson, Lowell; Melissa (Mrs. Tony) Taft, Belding; and Yvonne (Mrs. Marty) Gray, Saranac; a son, Guy (Brenda), Ionia; eight grandchildren; his mother, Beryl, Hastings; four brothers: Sam, Zephyrhills, Florida; Wilbur, Moline; Charles, Hastings; and Harvey, New Braunsfels, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Heizler, Phillips, and Phyllis Peters, Lansing; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Wilbur; a daughter, Debbie; and by a brother, Fred.
Bernice Gralow
Park Falls resident Bernice Gralow died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at Our Home K-Care in Lac du Flambeau at the age of 79.
Born July 11, 1919, in Milwaukee to Alfred and Ottlie (Reiniger) Zernia, she spent her early life in that area, graduated from Mt. Sinai School of Nursing and received degrees from other related schools. A nurse and former owner of 6 Mile Resort, she married William Gralow on November 14, 1964, and the couple retired in Park Falls in 1977.
A memorial service will be held Satur-day, May 15, at 10 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls.
Mrs. Gralow is survived by a daughter, Kay Michalski, Park Falls; two sons, Robert (Patricia) Schulz, Hartford, and Karl Hubert, Milwaukee; a stepson, John (Edith) Gralow, Manhattan, Kansas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, William.
Harry Johnson
Former Ogema resident Harry Gilbert Johnson, Orange Park, Florida, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Orange Park Medical Center at the age of 89.
Born August 31, 1909, in Ogema to Victor and Amanda Anders Johnson, he married Irene Dahly in Chicago, Illinois, on June 26, 1937. He was employed in the maintenance area of several large corporations in the Chicago and McHenry/Wonder Lake areas of Illinois, retiring from Brake Parts of McHenry. He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake and an avid bowler and craftsman.
A memorial service was held May 10 at Nativity Lutheran Church in Wonder Lake.
Mr. Johnson is survived by three daughters: Barbara (Mrs. R. Dean) Snyder, Houston, Texas; Karen (Mrs. Ernie) Koenig, Chicago; and Judith (Mrs. Henry) Sickinger, Englewood, Colorado; a son, Warren (Ruth), Orange Park; six grandchildren; and by two brothers, Emmett (June), Dadeville, Alabama, and Melvin (Dorothy), Lindenhurst, Illinois. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene, on August 25, 1995; a brother, Lawrence; and by four sisters, Jenny Luedke, Mae Ekstrom, Evelyn Nelson and Ellen Bogart.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials made to hospice.
Judith Krause
Former Catawba resident Judith Lynn Krause, Arpin, died April 17, 1999, at the Bethel Center at the age of 54.
Born March 1, 1945, in West Bend to Harold and Elaine (Moudry) Krause, she attended grade school in Kohlsville and graduated from Kewaskum High School. She was married to Roger Gutjahr in West Bend and later divorced, and loved being with people, country western music, embroidery work and word searches.
Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield with Reverend Mark Krueger officiating. Burial was at Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, West Bend.
Ms. Krause is survived by her parents, Harold and Elaine Krause, Arpin; her stepdaughter, Tracy Ellingston, Milwaukee; two brothers, James (Kathy), Owen, and David (Kris) Catawba; and by a sister, Lori (Mrs. Kevin) Fredrick, Marshfield. She was predeceased by a brother, Denis, in 1975, and by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
