Kennan resident Lloyd Slack died at Rusk County Memorial Hospital in Ladysmith on Sunday, May 9, 1999, at the age of 78.
He was born in Gagen on January 10, 1921, and married Elizabeth Harding in Sturgeon Bay on January 21, 1953.

Bonnie Westergren
Former Phillips resident Bonnie K. Westergren, Darien, Illinois, died at her home on Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the age of 55.
Born June 18, 1943, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Raymond and Norma Wester-gren, she worked most of her adult life as a legal secretary.
The funeral service was held Friday, May 7, at the Elliston Funeral Home in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Mrs. Westergren is survived by three children, Philip, Mark and Carol Jo; five grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Manaugh and Sharon (Mrs. Peter) Spies; a special companion, Steve Burns; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Raymond, and her stepfather, Tom Turnbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Marlene Glenn
Former Catawba resident Marlene E. Glenn, Holcombe, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at her home at the age of 64.
Born August 18, 1934, in Dana, Iowa, to Floyd and Hannah (Lass) Robinson, the family moved to Glen Flora where she graduated from Glen Flora High School. Married to Lee Glenn on November 15, 1952, in Ladysmith, the couple resided in Superior and Catawba before moving to Holcombe where she was a member of the Holcombe United Methodist Church and its women's group.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 14, at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Don Drollinger officiating. Burial was at Holcombe Cemetery.
Mrs. Glenn is survived by her husband, Lee; two daughters, Marla Sislo, Winter Spring, Florida, and Sharlee Glenn, Sanford, Florida; a son, Michael (Jean), Superior; a sister, Vanita Dietlein, Sheldon; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and by two brothers, Lowell and Darwin.
Margaret Janousek
Former Phillips, Quinnesec and Iron Mountain, Michigan, resident Margaret H. Janousek died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Freeman's Convalescent Home in Kingsford, Michigan, at the age of 95.
Born February 5, 1904, in Phillips to Anton and Elizabeth (Betz) Seitz, she married Matt Janousek on November 7, 1922, in Phillips. A member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, she was employed at Pancheri's IGA in Quinnesec for 12 years and enjoyed spending time with her family, card playing, cooking and crocheting.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 27, at St. Mary and St. Joseph with Father Daniel Zaloga officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Scott and Tom Flaminio, Matt and Mark Janousek and Tim and Ron Shattuck. Burial was at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
Mr. Janousek is survived by two sons, Edward (Marian), Iola, and Ronald (Marge), Iron Mountain; three daughters: Adele Shattuck, Menomonee Falls; Joyce (Mrs. John) Fryklund, Homewood, Illinois; and Marian (Mrs. Larry) Flaminio, Iron Mountain; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and by two nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Matt; a daughter, Kathleen Lyda; a grandson, Ran-dy Shattuck; and by two sisters and a brother.
Wilfred Peloquin
Wilfred A. Peloquin, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Connors Lake, died April 24, 1999, at the age of 81.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Roseville, Minnesota. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Mr. Peloquin is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, John (Lisa), Peggy (Chris) Hart, Patty (Jim) Behreubrinker, Betsy (Ward) Jankus and Steven (Caroline); six grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Ehlke and Judy Lee.
Richard P. Rivard
Richard Pierre Rivard, 84, of Glenwood City died at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, on Friday, May 7, 1999.
Mr. Rivard was born in Turtle Lake on February 23, 1915 to Rose Alma (DuBois) and Louis Honore Rivard. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1933, served his country as a World War II combat infantryman in Europe, and graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1947, before settling with his family in Glenwood City. He spent 50 years as a practicing attorney in Glenwood City, also serving as St. Croix County district attorney and St. Croix County circuit court commissioner.
Mr. Rivard was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Glenwood City, was a member of the church choir, served on the Superior Diocese school board and deaconate board, and was a charter member of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a 50-year member of the Currey-Ainsworth Post #168 American Legion in Glenwood City.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, a brother, Louis Laurin, a sister, Louise (Laurin) Smith, and two sons, Thomas and Peter.
Mr. Rivard is survived by his wife, Mary (Severance); two brothers, John Rivard (Jean) of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and Raymond Rivard of Phoenix, Arizona; seven children including, Richard Andre, Glenwood City; Roland (Maryanne Oyas), Madison; Michelle Heiting (William), Stillwater, Minnesota; Louis (Jill), River Falls; Francis (Judy), Menomonie; Georgianna Rivard-Bravo (Boris), Storrs, Connecticut; and Raymond (Lorraine Hoster), Phillips; foster daughter Beverly Bosinske Finn (Gene), Sycamore, Illinois; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be heard at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, preceded by visitation at 9 a.m. The Mass and visitation will be at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Glenwood City. A graveside ceremony will be held at the Catholic cemetery following the Mass.

Henry Ermer Jr.
Lifelong Hawkins resident Henry John Ermer Jr. died Monday, February 22, 1999, at Rusk County Memorial Hospital in Ladysmith at the age of 80.
Born October 2, 1918, in Hawkins to Henry Sr. and Emma (Lebal) Ermer, he married Ruth Ann Kirmse in Kennan and farmed in the area all his life.
The funeral was held Thursday, February 25, at the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith, with military rites by the Hawkins Veterans Association. Spring interment will be at the Kennan Cemetery.
Mr. Ermer is survived by his wife, Ruth; four daughters: Gloria Halter, Geraldine (Mrs. Pat) Olson and Audrey Ermer, all of Hawkins, and Vickie (Mrs. Jim) Willms, Catawba; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert, Hawkins, and Walter, Anthony, New Mexico; and by three sisters, Lillian Habas, Portland, Oregon; Mildred Tippery, Salina, Kansas; and Bernice Hardman, Avondale, Arizona.
The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home, Ladysmith, was in charge of the arrangements.
