Greenwood
Gary M. Greenwood, 49, of Hartford, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at his home.
Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, Rev. David Beckstrom officiating.
He was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Milwaukee. His parents were Lloyd and Victoria (Edmonson) Greenwood.
He married Debbie McDowell May 15, 1997, in Richfield.
He graduated from Wauwatosa West High School in 1967 and attained three years of college credits at the University of Wisconsin.
He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
He worked for Briggs and Stratton for over 25 years.
He loved hunting, boxing, racing and football.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Stevie Michelle and Alexandra Rose Greenwood; two step-children, Jessica and Jeffrey Cherney; a brother, Bob (Audrey) Greenwood of Fond du Lac; and by sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including many in the Park Falls area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Care Center (Tree of Life) Community Memorial Hospital, Menomonee Falls.
Pankratz
Frank C. Pankratz, 82, formerly of Glidden, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 14, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Glidden; Father Linus Evers officiating.
Burial of cremains will take place in the spring.
He was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Glidden. His parents were George and Mary (Peterhansel) Pankratz.
He grew up and attended school in Shanagolden.
He married Elizabeth Niebauer Sept. 20, 1947, in Park Falls. She preceded him in death in 1996.
He worked for South Spur in Morse and later for the Butternut Mill, until it was destroyed by fire. He then worked for Louisiana-Pacific in Mellen until his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by a son, Jim (Linda) Pankratz Sr. of Glidden; a daughter, Carol (Raymond) Segel of Glidden; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Gay Pankratz of Glidden; a sister, Marie Borowski of Butternut; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and by two brothers, George and Edward Pankratz.
Schoppe, William Schoppe, 54, of Butternut, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at his home.
Services were held Jan. 3 at Countryside Funeral Home, Bartlett, IL.
A memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
He was born March 19, 1944, in Illinois. His parents were Elmer and Wilma (Wille) Schoppe.
He grew up and attended school in Illinois.
He retired to Butternut.
He is survived by his mother; two brothers, John (Monica) of Kingston, IL, and Mark (Rita) of Bartlett, IL; and a nephew.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Wilson
Gladys L. Wilson, 72, of Blaine, MN, and formerly of Park Falls, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at Unity Hospital, Fridley, MN.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 18, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Blaine, MN.
Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Minneapolis, MN.
She was born April 13, 1926, in Park Falls. Her parents were Louis and Matilda (Michel) Hilgart.
She grew up and attended school in Park Falls, graduating high school in 1943.
She was employed by Western Union for a number of years.
She married Warren Wilson in Minneapolis in October 1958. They later owned and operated a resort in Luck, WI, until his death in 1982.
She is survived by a daughter, Wendy (Mark) Gustafson of Brooklyn Center, MN; three grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Ed) Woody of Butternut, Carolyn (Frank) Binder of Chicago and Jane (Len) Rivers of Geneva, IL; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two infant brothers.
Kluesch
Bernadette F. Kleusch, 75, of Park Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls, Rev. Edmund Doerre officiating, with military rites under the auspices of the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
She was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Chippewa Falls. Her parents were Peter and Theresa (Bohnert) Kleusch.
A World War II veteran, she served in the U.S. Coast Guard from April 5, 1944 to May 18, 1946. She was a charter member of Women in Military Service.
She worked at Mason Shoe Company in Chippewa Falls for many years.
She was an avid bird watcher.
She was a member of St. Anthony's parish in Park Falls, had many friends in the area and enjoyed living in Park Falls.
She is survived by four sisters, Genevieve Ackley and Iola (Joseph) Price of Chippewa Falls, Agnes Graham of Spearfish, SD, and Florence Boyle of Eau Claire; by many nieces and nephews, and by special friends, Helen Sjolander and Father Al Ebach, both of Park Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a brother, Roman Kleusch.
Stempinski
Chester J. "Chet" Stempinski, 74, of Madison, and formerly of Butternut, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in Madison after a long illness.
Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 20, at St. Dennis Catholic Church, Madison; Father Kent Schmitt officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens, Cottage Grove.
He was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Butternut. His parents were Stanley and Jennie (Romanwicz) Stempinski.
He married Shirley Volzka Oct. 23, 1948, in Park Falls.
He was employed for 36 years as a machine operator at Boman Dairy in Madison and was owner/operator of Chet's Custom Upholstery for 34 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing in northern Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Jerry (Beth) of Caledonia, MN, and Ron (Dodie) and Dan (Patti), both of Madison; a grandchild; his mother; a brother, John (Bokee) of Illinois; and a sister, Alvina (Joseph) Figlewicz of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Tabor
Genevieve S. Tabor, 75, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999.
Entombment was Jan. 9 in St. Adelbert's Mausoleum in Chicago.
She was born May 2, 1923. Her parents were Joseph and Helen Smoczynski.
She married Raymond J. Tabor Oct. 26, 1953.
She is survived by a brother, Dominic, and a sister, Estelle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Anthony and Walter; and by nieces and nephews.
Steben-Lange
Lula Mae Steben-Lange, 89, formerly of Butternut, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
Services were held Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls; Rev. Kevin Ferreira officiating.
Burial will be held this spring at Butternut Union Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Nacogdoches, TX. Her parents were Crit and Rilla (Scarborough) Cravey.
She grew up and attended school in Texas.
She married Arthur Steben in 1931. He preceded her in death in 1970.
She married Lionel Lange in 1973. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a homemaker and was employed by St. Croix Rod Co. in Park Falls.
She is survived by four children, Lorraine (Arthur) Dane and Dorothy (Mert) Hanish, both of Park Falls, Marvin (Marilyn) Steben of Butternut and Robert (Dee) Steben of Boone, IA; five step-children, Bernice (Bill) Lee of Maitland, FL, Carol (Dan) Morris of Spartanberg, SC, Lionel (Bev) Lange of Kiel, Sharlene (Les) Karnitz of Plymouth and Robert (Barbara) Lange of Mendota Heights, MN; three sisters, Pat Ghelfi of Arizona, Ruby Ethridge of Texas and Luceal Dula of Louisiana; three brothers, Lester Cravey of Oregon, John Cravey of California and Joe Cravey of Connecticut; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two brothers, Homer and Roy; and three sisters, Ellen, Gertrude and Willie.
