Nieratka
Emil J. Nieratka, 81, of Butternut, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Butternut; Father Linus Evers officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut, with military rites under the auspices of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls.
He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Passaic, NJ. His parents were Walter and Gertrude (Blawat) Nieratka.
He grew up in Kentucky and later in Butternut, where he attended school.
He attended technical school in Ashland and earned a degree in machine tool operation.
He was a mink rancher and worked for Johnson Plumbing and Heating and later at the Flambeau Paper Mill, both in Park Falls.
He married Helen Wenzl Dec. 16, 1942, in Salisbury, MD.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Butternut Knights of Columbus, a member of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls and member and past president of the Flambeau Area Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Diane Nester of Oviedo, FL; a son, Dennis Nieratka of Butternut; a granddaughter; two brothers, Alex Nieratka and Albin (Jane) Nieratka, both of Milwaukee; two sisters, Helen Zimmerman of Santa Rosa, CA, and Lucille Turasik of Ft. Meyers, FL; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Pohl
Verna J. Pohl, 73, of Glidden, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls, as the result of an automobile accident.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Glidden; Father Ed Hussli officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the church.
She was born May 6, 1925, in Park Falls. Her parents were Carl and Calista (Loehner) Fischer.
She grew up and attended school in Park Falls.
She married John "Junior" Pohl May 24, 1947, in Park Falls.
A homemaker, she worked at Louisiana Pacific Corp. in Mellen until her retirement in 1988.
She and her husband were hosts at Lake Namekagon Campground in Cable since 1989.
She was a member of St. Anne's Sodality and of the Catholic Foresters, where she was recently honored for her many years of service.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Randy (Marion) Pohl of Glidden; three daughters, Teri (Robert) BeBeau and Carla (Jerry) Crom, both of Glidden, and Janis (Nicholas) Straetz of Presque Isle, ME; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Marge Weik, Lois Michalski, Beth (Andy) Michalski and Celine (Frank) Hoft, all of Park Falls; a brother, Francis "Bill" (Dorothy) Fischer of Park Falls; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Crafton
Nancy Crafton, 58, of Fairbanks, AK, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at her home.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Immaculate Conception Church, Fairbanks.
She was born Nancy Carol Ocker Feb. 25, 1940, on the family farm of her parents, Ernest and Olga Ocker, in Fifield. She was the youngest of seven children.
She moved to Alaska in 1970 with her former husband, Jim LeTorneau, and their three children.
She moved to Fairbanks, where she married Wayne Crafton in 1974.
She worked as a waitress and in 1980, opened her own restaurant, the Elf's Den, in North Pole, AK, with a partner, Tom Sakolas, and spent the next 18 years as owner/operator of the supper club.
She is survived by her first husband, Jim LeTorneau, of Eagle, AK; a son, James Ernest LeTorneau; a daughter, Patricia Jean (Walt) Plant of Fairbanks, AK; a granddaughter; two sisters, Harriet (Conrad) House of North Pole, AK, and Gladys (Donald) Borman of Glidden; three brothers, Donald (Arlene) Ocker, Ronald (Carol) Ocker and Gary (Janice) Ocker, all of Fifield; a sister-in-law, Heidi Ocker of Arizona; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Crafton; a daughter, Kathleen Ann LeTourneau; and a brother, Ernest Ocker.
Hartman
Annabelle P. Hartman, 66, of Plymouth, MI, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, MI.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth.
She was born March 31, 1932. Her parents were Jake and Helen Leick.
She grew up and attended school in Butternut.
She is survived by her husband, Edmund; three daughters, Jeanne Sullivan of Argos, MI, Annette Ray of Bourbon, MI, and Paula Kinney of Poland, Ohio; a son, Edmund Jr. of Plymouth, MI; and three sisters, Norma Artusi of Mishawaka, MI, Charlotte Ganther of Mauston and Betty Snouwaert of Niles, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a brother, Jacob Leick.
Morrical
Lynn M. Morrical, 77, of Park Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Home Cemetery, Fifield, at a later date.
He was born March 19, 1921, in Phillips. His parents were Jess and Hazel Morrical.
He grew up and attended school in Phillips.
After school, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Army Airborne as a paratrooper. He fought behind enemy lines in Europe during World War II.
He was an automobile body man and painter for Steiger Motor Sales in Park Falls for 32 years.
He was happily married to Betty Jane (Marsh) Morrical for 48 years until her death in 1998.
He was a member of the Fifield American Legion.
He is survived by a son, Lawrence John (Pam) Morrical of Waukegan, IL; two daughters, Judith Elizabeth (John) Tucci of Ashland and Mary Ann (Kenneth) Mathis of Zion, IL; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joanne Heinz of Phillips; by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and by a dear friend, Dawn Slack of Fifield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Cecile "Moe" Koller.
Hoffman
Arthur P. Hoffman, 72, of Park Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at his home.
Services were held Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father Al Ebach officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Friday, Feb. 26, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls, with military rites under the auspices of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182.
He was born May 15, 1926, in Park Falls and was a life-long resident of Park Falls. His parents were Peter and Anna (Woodie) Hoffman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls.
A farmer, he loved music and played guitar in different area bands.
He is survived by two brothers, Herbert Hoffman of Camden, AR, and James (Dorothy) Hoffman of Donnellson, IA; a sister, Isabelle Sollberger of Athens; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
Maxfield
Charlene L. Maxfield, 65, of Loretta, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at her home.
Services were held Wednesday, March 3, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
A private committal service will be held at a later date.
She was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Lancaster, OH. Her parents were Herbert and Viola Wilkinson.
She grew up and attended school in Ohio.
She married William Maxfield July 11, 1955, in Cincinnati, OH. The couple moved to Loretta in 1987.
She was employed at the Motorola Company in Franklin Park, IL, until her retirement in 1987.
She then worked with her husband at the Glenwood School for Boys in Loretta.
She is survived by her husband; two children, James Maxfield of Lancaster, OH, and Debra (James) Radford of Boling Brook, IL; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild; and by brothers and sisters.
