Wagner
Ludwig Wagner, 88, of Joshua Tree, CA, and formerly of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Crescent Nursing Home in California.
He was born Jan. 3, 1911, on the family farm of his parents, Leonard Sr. and Walburga Wagner, in Park Falls.
He grew up and attended school in Park Falls, then lived in various places, including Webster, Minneapolis, MN, and California.
He is survived by a sister, Theresa Schroeder, three sisters-in-law, Katherine (Fred) Wagner, Grace (Leonard Jr.) Wagner and Grace (George) Wagner of Park Falls; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pauline, whom he married in Webster; his second wife, June, whom he married in California; six brothers, Frank, Joseph, George, John, Leonard Jr. and Fred; and a sister, Josephine Pritzl.
Zimmerman
Helen Nieratka Zimmerman, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in San Francisco, CA.
She is survived by two sons, David of San Francisco and Thomas of Marion, IA; five grandchildren; two brothers, Alex Nieratka and Albin Nieratka, both of Milwaukee; a sister, Lucille Turasik of Fort Meyers, FL; and seven nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Zimmerman of Bemidji, MN, and a brother, Emil Nieratka of Butternut.
Dirrigle
Joseph M. Dirrigle, 52, of Park Falls, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, in Montana as the result of a motorcycle accident while traveling.
Services were held Friday, July 21, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
He was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Park Falls. His parents are Bill and the late Lila (Wells) Dirrigle.
He graduated from Park Falls High School in 1966, and joined the Army.
He married Mary Koshak in 1968.
He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970, after serving two tours in Vietnam.
He received an associates degree in police science from Madison Area Technical College in 1972, and was employed as a deputy sheriff in Waukesha County.
After returning to Park Falls, he was employed for 21 years at the Fraser Papers Park Falls’ mill.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and served on the parish financial committee.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jolie and Kate; a son, Cody; his father; his step-mother, Virginia; a brother, Bill (Pat) Dirrigl; a sister, Judy Nessman; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Franke
Laura Marie Franke, 82, of Park Falls, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Watertown. Her parents were Ferdinand and Auralia (Kulke) Schroeder.
She moved to Park Falls in the early 1970s.
A homemaker, she made quilts and pillows for the Sunburst Homes for Children.
She is survived by two children, Robert (Pat) Heger of San Diego, CA, and Shirley (Frank) Revi of Jefferson; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lydia Raabe of Watertown; a brother, Adolph (Josephine) Schroeder of New Berlin; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Maynard Heger in 1967; her second husband, Louis Franke in 1990; and by five children, Frank, Walter, Marie, Kenneth and Earl.
Camp
John Anderson Camp, 65, of Park Falls, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Novitzke Funeral Home Chapel, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
Burial was in the Loretta-Draper Cemetery, with military rites under the auspices of the Loretta-Draper American Legion Post.
He was born Dec. 21, 1934, in Draper. His parents were Louis and Lillian (Gould) Camp.
He attended school in Draper until the family moved to Maynard, AR.
He entered the U.S. Navy, serving for 21 years until his retirement in 1972.
He married Jeanette Stutzman. They later divorced.
He moved to Park Falls, and in 1977, married Agnes (Hovanecz ) Rose. They spent summers in Park Falls and winters in Bracketville, TX.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Loretta-Draper American Legion Post and the Fleet Reserve.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Cynthia (Charles) Spain of Hillsboro, OR, Jeffrey Camp of Orlando, FL, Brenda (Dan) Price of Kingsland, GA, and Teresa Hood of Orlando, FL; a step-daughter, Lisa (LeRoy) Hegwood of Silverdale, WA; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, LaVetta Beal of Linden, MI; a brother, Carroll Camp of Rockledge, FL; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
Kronberger
Darlene Fay Kronberger, 54, of Park Falls, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services were held Monday, July 31, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Sunday, July 30, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut.
She was born July 21, 1946, in Mauston. Her parents were William and Viola (Bader) Fields.
She was a graduate of Anoka High School in Anoka, MN.
After vacationing in Park Falls throughout her life, she moved to the area in 1964, working at Hicks’ Landing in Fifield.
She married Frank Kronberger Nov. 14, 1964.
She was a sales representative for many years at Suburban Furniture and Carpet in Park Falls.
She enjoyed gardening and nature. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Timothy (Lori) Kronberger of Fond du Lac, Paul (Jean) Kronberger of Park Falls, Debra (John) Kronberger-Oswald of Fifield and Sara (Donnie) Kronberger-Wallow of Glidden; five grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Rachel, Maggie and Emma; her former husband, Frank, of Clam Lake; four brothers, Bernard (Beverly) Fields of Janesville, Morton (Mary Kay) Fields of Cedar, MN; Eugene (Joyce) Fields of Hamilton, MT, and William (Susan) Fields of Houlton; two sisters, Shirley Walsh of Mauston and Calla Betthauser of West Salem; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Larry Fields.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or Flambeau Home Health and Hospice.
Steiger
Paul Steiger, 88, formerly of Park Falls, died Wednesday, July 19.
Services were held Monday, July 24, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Bessemer, MI
Burial was in Hilcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.
He was born and raised on a farm in rural Phillips. His parents were Jacob and Anna (Reider) Steiger.
He married Dorothy Tomczak Oct. 22, 1936, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Park Falls. She preceded him in death Sept. 6, 1999.
He moved to Gogebic County nearly 60 years ago, establishing a sawmill and grain door business at Black River Harbor. The Steigers established a sawmill business in Bessemer in 1945 and later added a building center.
Steiger was a key player in the construction of Big Powderhorn Mountain ski resort in 1963, and the family’s involvement in the ski industry grew through the establishment of Blackjack.
