Heffner
Walter Ray Heffner, 63, of Park Falls, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000 at his home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Heindl Funeral Home, Phillips; Rev. Charles DeMaris of the United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation is at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. today until the hour of service.
Enurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Phillips.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936. His parents were Morse and Lady Maude Heffner.
He married Catherine Smetak Sept. 6, 1955, in Mellen. She preceded him in death June 9, 1996.
After their marriage, they lived in Chicago, IL, then in Milwaukee for 34 years, until their retirement in 1995, when they moved to Park Falls.
He was employed as a sheet metal worker by Auer Heating and Air Conditioning of Milwaukee. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local No. 18.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and in retirement, he enjoyed raising chickens and geese.
He is survived by seven children, Deborah (Dennis) Koller of Saukeville, Wendy (Donald) Krueger of Milwaukee, Jill (Robert) Tolson of Port Washington, Lori (David) Kolaga of Mayville, Larry (Susan) Heffner of Eden, Dale Heffner of Slinger, and Steven (Jane) Heffner of South Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special friend, Carol Root of Ashland; two brothers, Rudy (Debbie) Heffner of Ironwood, MI and Frank (Catherine) Heffner of Saxon; four sisters, Nellie Bielke of Ashland, Lee Kersten of Grand Haven, MI, Arbutis Germain of Washington and Erma (Ted) Wiercinski of DePere; and by two half-sisters, Alice (Gerald) Steinhaus of Montello and Anna Smith of Berlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Wilfred Heffner and Donald Heffner; a sister, Jane Merrill; a half-brother, Fred Heffner; and three half-sisters, Emma Peterson, Orpha Oliver and Gertude Rodencal.
Nieratka, 88
Helen J. Nieratka, 88, of Butternut, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Butternut; Father James Jackson officiating.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls, with a parish prayer vigil at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut.
She was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Park Falls. Her parents were George and Caroline (Oberhoffer) Wenzl.
She grew up and attended school in Park Falls, then worked as a private cook and housekeeper.
She moved to Milwaukee, where she worked in area factories during World War II.
She married Emil J. Nieratka, Dec. 16, 1942, in Salisbury, MD. He preceded her in death in 1999.
The couple lived in Milwaukee, then moved to Butternut in 1948, where they owned and operated a family mink ranch.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Christian Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Nester of Ovideo, FL; a son, Dennis Nieratka of Butternut; a granddaughter; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and by five brothers and sisters, George, William, Mary, Emma and Caroline.
Hamann, 89
Walter F. “Wally” Hamann, 89, of Butternut, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at his home.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 9, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Butternut; Rev. John A. Deitz officiating.
Burial was in Butternut Union Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 14, 1910 in Butternut, and was a life-long resident of Butternut. His parents were William and Agusta (Scherwinski) Hamann.
He married Edna Strick March 6, 1937, in Butternut.
He was a logger, carpenter and mechanic.
He enjoyed the woods, hunting and fishing, making maple syrup and telling many logging camp stores of yesteryear.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Roger (Joanne) Hamann of Wausau and Marvin (Sharon ) Hamann of Park Falls; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, William of Illinois and Ted of Park Falls; a sister, Ida Klein of California; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Otto, Art and Carl; and four sisters, Marie, Esther, Amanda and Nora.
Ernst, 92
Joseph Ernst, 92, of Park Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 11, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
He was born March 22, 1908, in Butternut. His parents were John and Pauline (Treml) Ernst.
He married Anna Rose Treml June 23, 1931, in Park Falls.
He worked at various jobs until he and his brother, John, became partners in Ernst Buildings until semi-retiring in 1970. He then worked various jobs at Ron Ernst Lumber Company in Fifield until retiring in 1995.
he was a member of Father Otto Weber Council No 2639 of the Knights of Columbus of Park Falls.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Ronald (Joan) Ernst of Park Falls; a daughter, Judy (Jerry ) Krause of Rhinelander; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Bill, Max and Ferdinand; and tow sisters, Bertha Kronberger and Mary Pritzl Bruch.
Bloomberg, 64
Alyce Ann Bloomberg, 64, of Centennial, WY, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Laramie, WY, following a battle with cancer.
Memorial services were held Aug. 18 at Colonial Church of Edina, MN and Aug. 31 at Centennial Valley Community Church, Centennial, WY.
Burial was in Dawn Valley Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, MN.
She was born Aug. 23, 1935 in Park Falls. Her parents were Jens and Bergata Danielson.
She graduated from high school in Park Falls and worked as a secretary at the high school.
She married Carl Bloomberg Dec. 21, 1957, in Park Falls.
She worked as a resource center clerk for the Bloomington (MN) School District. In 1979, she went to work at control Data Corp. as an administrative secretary, where she remained until her retirement in 1997.
Long-time residents of Minnesota, the Bloombergs traveled often to Wyoming and moved to Centennial, WY, in 1998, following retirement.
A caring wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed arranging flowers. She was a member of the Centennial Valley Community Church and the Centennial Social Club.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Daniel Bloomberg of Hudson; a daughter, Kristina Schreder of Lancaster, PA; a brother, Richard Danielson of Park Falls; a sister, Carol Morgan of Park Falls; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Carl Jens Bloomberg in 1980.
Baker, 83
John N. Baker, 83, of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 9, at Peace Lutheran Church, Park Falls; Rev. Gary D. Lodholz officiating.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
He was born July 26, 1917, in Osage, IA. His parents were George and Delia (Lee) Baker.
The family moved to Kennan while he was a child. He grew up and attended school in Kennan.
He worked at Civilian Conservation Camps in Drummond, and was also active in logging.
In 1938, he moved to Chicago, IL, where he worked for a construction company which worked on the elevated subway.
He married Elizabeth Rose Eysnogle May 18, 1940, in Chicago.
The couple moved to Kennan, where they owned and operated a family farm and he also worked as a mechanic.
In 1943, the family moved to Park Falls, where he was employed until 1960 as a mechanic and later as parts manager and a salesman at Vincent’s Ford.
He then went to work for Bake-Rite Baking Company of Stevens Point as a delivery man for the northern part of Wisconsin. He retired in 1977.
He enjoyed golfing and hunting, and loved to travel.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Thomas (Katherine) Baker of Sheboygan, Sandra (Roger) Roohr and Gary Baker, both of Park Falls, and Loren “Larry” (Janet) Baker of North Port, FL; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 12 brothers and sisters, Mabel, Ralph, Earl, Orin, Leo, pearl, Clifford, Bert, Homer, Willis, Kenneth and Lloyd; a half-brother, Edgar; and two half-sisters, Elva and Lydia.
Jansen, 76
Carl F. Jansen, 76, of Glidden, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
Services were held Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Glidden; Rev. Michael Paholke officiating.
Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Glidden, with military rites under the auspices of the Glidden American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts.
He was born May 11, 1924, in Glidden. His parents were Carl and Emma (Beilke) Jansen.
He was a graduate of Glidden High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He lived in Milwaukee and Waukesha and worked as a machinist for the Falk Corporation in Milwaukee.
He retired to Glidden about 20 years ago.
He was a member of the Glidden Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by three daughters, Carla (Mark) Olson of Hartland, Vicky (Tim) Hinchey of Eagle and Linda (Kevin) Firkus of North Prairie; four grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ceceil Wisniewski.
