Dana M. Witter, 67
Dana Martha Witter, 67, of River Falls, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility.
She was born March 5, 1932, in St. Paul and later moved to Maiden Rock. She married Meril Witter of St. Paul in November of 1952. They lived in St. Paul before moving to River Falls in 1989.
She retired from The Lutheran Home: River Falls.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Johnson; her sister, JoAnne Wicklund; her brother, Sidney Mickelson; her half-brother, LeRoy Johnson; her children: Diane Wolfsteller, Debra Andrews, Allen Witter and LuAnne Steiner; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was cremated. A memorial service was Saturday, March 27, at 3 p.m., at Cashman Mortuary.
Kenneth F. Dunn, 38
Kenneth Frank Dunn, 38, died suddenly on Thursday, March 18, 1999, at his home in the town of Erin.
He was born May 18, 1960, in Baldwin, the son of Douglas and Annie Dunn. He attended school in River Falls, where he graduated in 1978. After high school he farmed with his dad and brother on the family farm east of River Falls.
He married Sherry (Simon) Johnson on July 16, 1983. They had three children: Joseph, Rachel and Douglas.
They moved to their farm in the town of Erin in 1985, where the five of them worked the farm together. Ken also had a successful Northrup King distributorship which brought him recognition in the seed business. In 1997 he was elected to the Erin Township Board of Supervisors.
He loved farming. He loved animals, even the deer he faithfully hunted each year. He was an exceptional marksman. He loved the outdoors.
He was a great husband and father. He coached 4-H softball and helped his children prepare stock for the county fair each year. He was a happy, sensitive, kind man who loved God. He had many friends. All who met him loved him and his laugh; and he did it often.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, family members and friends. In his short time on Earth, he touched many lives in a good manner with that sparkle in his eyes and never-ending smile. His family and friends rest assured, through faith, that he now lies in peace in God's arms for eternity.
He was preceded in death by his father, K. Douglas Dunn; his step-father, Martin Paglusch; his father-in-law, Raymond Simon, Sr.; a brother-in-law, David Simon; and a nephew, Roger Douglas McKay.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children: Joseph, Rachel and Douglas; his mother, Annie Dunn of Roberts; one brother, Darrell and Robin of River Falls; three sisters: Helen and Dale McKay of Bellechester, Minn., Karla and Daniel Solberg of Hudson, and Lisa and Kevin Knutson of Baldwin; his mother-in-law, Jeannette Simon of River Falls; his in-laws: Raymond and Virginia Simon, Jr., of River Falls, Nancy and Bob Muller of River Falls, Sandy and Gary Schommer of River Falls, Judy and Roger Graetz of River Falls, Sue and Terry Malmer of Atlanta, Debbie and Rollie Johnson of River Falls, Danny and Lorri Simon of River Falls, and Patrick and Marilyn Simon of River Falls; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral was Monday, March 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in New Richmond. Interment was at Rush River Cemetery.

Rachel V. Pearson, 99
Rachel V. Pearson, 99, died March 18, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Muriel Erickson, in Golden Valley, Minn.
Rachel and her husband, Peter, owned and operated the Pearson Floral Shop and Greenhouse for many years. She was a gifted pianist who gladly shared her talents. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church of River Falls and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Peter; her sisters: Petronella, Ruth, Albeda, Marie, Rebecca and Evangeline; and her brothers: Randolph, Richard and Reuben.
She is survived by her son, Robert and Phillis of Roseville, Minn.; grandsons: Richard Pearson, Christopher and Luci Pearson of Prior Lake, Minn.; great-granddaughters: Rachel Ann Pearson and Luiza Victoria Pearson; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral was Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m., at the United Methodist Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Marcella M. R. Fleischauer, 92
Marcella Margaret Ryan Fleischauer, 92, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1907, in Dempster, S.D., to Michael and Cora (Mitchell) Ryan. She married Gaylen S. Fleischauer on March 31, 1931. They lived in St. Paul until 1947 when they moved to a farm east of River Falls where they lived until moving to River Falls in 1955.
She worked at the UW-River Falls Food Service from 1956-1966. She lived at the Riverview Manor until Dec. 1995, when she moved to The Lutheran Home.
She was a member of Ezekiel Lutheran Church and enjoyed Lutheran Ladies Fellowship meetings in her retirement years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, reveling in the joys or her family and their many activities over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylen; four brothers and a great-grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, June and Jerry Gibson of River Falls; a son, Larry Fleischauer of Paso Robles, Calif.; granddaughters: Karen and Jeff Rodewald and Diane and Chad Clark; and great-grandchildren: Dan, Eric and Elizabeth Rodewald, all of River Falls.
Funeral was March 5 at Ezekiel Lutheran Church. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in W. St. Paul.
Frances C. Weishaar, 81
Frances C. Weishaar, 81, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at her home in Rockford, Ill.
She was born March 24, 1917, the 13th child of Andrew and Cecelia Bjork of Ellsworth.
She married John Ray on April 24, 1935. They had two daughters: Carol and Judy. John died Aug. 27, 1948.
On Aug. 9, 1950, she married Orville "Swede" Weishaar. They had one daughter, Betty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Cecelia Bjork; 12 siblings: Nellie Wilson, Anton Bjork, Selma Metcalf, Agnes Meier, Edith Hill, Matilda Truax, Ruth Meier, Herbert Bjork, Ralph Bjork, Evelyn Hanson, George Bjork, and Olivia Ray; her first husband, John Ray; and one daughter, Carol Simpson.
She is survived by her husband, Orville "Swede" Weishaar; her daughters: Judy Durden and Betty and Curlee Percey; her son-in-law, Paul Simpson; her grandchildren: Jon and Cathy Simpson and Jodie Durden; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her special nieces and nephews include: Nancy Lundgaard, Leslie Ray, Edway Ray and Ella Lundgaard, whom "Swede" and Fran took under their wings after the death of their parents; and Marvin and Olivia Ray, her sister and brother-in-law.
Funeral was at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Burial was at St. Bridget Cemetery.

Lenore C. Gibson, 85
Lenore Catherine (Engstrom) Gibson, 85, of River Falls, died Monday, March 22, 1999, at the Kinnic Long Term Care facility.
She was born in New Richmond on March 1, 1914, the daughter of Victor and Alma (Howe) Engstrom of Star Prairie. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She graduated from New Richmond High School and then graduated from the State Teacher's College at River Falls in June of 1933.
She married Lester "Hoot" Gibson of Durand on Oct. 28, 1934. They farmed in Durand until 1937 when they moved to Clifton Hollow. In 1940 they moved to the town of Kinnickinnic where they farmed until "Hoot's" death in May of 1976.
Lenore worked in a variety of settings, including the UW-River Falls Food Services as assistant manager, in the offices of Volrath Refrigeration and the Ken Lee Agency. In retirement she worked as a hostess at Joy's Caf‚.
She loved an adventure and enjoyed taking trips around the United States and Canada.
She will be remembered for her great attention to detail when organizing the many social functions both at UW-RF and Ezekiel Lutheran Church. She was a member of the PTA, Tuesday Club, Kinnickinnic Ladies Aid, St. Croix County Homemakers. In later years she enjoyed the company of the members in "The Knitting Club."
She was always ready to have coffee or go on a ride to the city. She rarely missed an opportunity to socialize. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt, and will be remembered for her style and elegance. Her family and friends were her primary focus and she took great pride in teaching the importance of family heritage and tradition.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Alma; her step-father, Herbert Daye; her brother, Victor Engstrom; two nieces and a great-grandchild.
She is survived by her son, Jerry and June Gibson; granddaughters: Karen and Jeff Rodewald, and Diane and Chad Clark; great-grandchildren: Daniel, Eric and Elizabeth Rodewald, all of River Falls; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral was Wednesday, March 24, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Montgomery officiating. Betty Lou Oppegard was organist. Vocalists were Karen Rodewald and Diane Clark.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Jeff and Karen Rodewald and Diane and Chad Clark.

Ruth I. Gartman, 89
Ruth Ida Gartman, 89, of Hudson died Saturday, March 13, 1999, at Hudson Medical Center, after being taken there earlier that morning by ambulance.
She was born March 30, 1909, in the town of St. Joseph, the daughter of William and Whilemena (Lietz) Wolf. She attended grade school at McKinley in St. Joseph and attended high school in Stillwater, Minn. Following school, she helped her family by working on the farm.
On Nov. 7, 1936, she was married to Max Francis Gartman in Hudson. They lived in the town of St. Joseph for many years prior to moving to Hudson in the early 1950s. Ruth was a homemaker most of her life. After her children were in school, she worked at Erickson's grocery store for 20 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed all sorts of gardening and grew vegetables, raspberries and strawberries. She also liked crocheting and reading and was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Max; two sisters, Dorothea Wolf and Myrtle Lindstrom; and a brother, Alfred Wolf.
Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Gartman (friend David Pickard) of River Falls; a sister-in-law, Theresa Dierks of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews in the New Richmond, Baldwin and Woodville areas.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 16, at Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater, with the Rev. Marcus Birkholtz officiating. Organist Michael Schmidt accompanied congregational singing. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial was in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Stillwater. Casketbearers were Dean Lindstrom, Arthur Hawkinson, Robert Gartman and David Pickard.
Memorials are preferred.
