William A. Schmidbauer, 62
William Anthony Schmidbauer, 62, of River Falls died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
He was born in Sheboygan on July 1, 1936, the son of Frank and Rose (Groh) Schmidbauer. He married Pauline Cachia on April 8, 1967, in Toronto, Canada.
He graduated from St. Francis Seminary High School in Milwaukee in 1954. He was in the U.S. Army for 3 years following high school He was employed by Kolpak Refrigeration (formerly Vollrath Refrigeration) for 39 years. He retired in 1998.
He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was also a former president of the River Falls Utility Commission.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose Schmidbauer.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Pauline (Cachia) Schmidbauer of River Falls; a daughter, Kathryn and Brad Robole of Oshkosh; a son, John and Janice Schmidbauer of Kenosha; many nieces and nephews. He was the loving grandfather of Sarah, Rachel and Barbara.
Friends may call at Cashman Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 4-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating.
Burial was to be at Calvary Cemetery, Sheboygan, at 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 5.
John B. Marsh, 73
John B. Marsh, 73, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, while at his home in Florida.
He was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Beldenville, to John and Olga Marsh. He married Frances Bradley on Sept. 4, 1943. She preceded him in death.
He spent many years working on the road and as a farmer. In 1967 he bought John's Sanitation and worked it until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing and being surrounded by family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances; his brothers: Coyde, Clyde and Rex; and his sisters: Gladys, Irene Peterson and Hazel Davies; and a sister-in-law Nancy Marsh..
He is survived by a son, David, from Ellsworth; his daughters, Cheryl and Al Ciche of Kiel, and Gail and Randy Baar of River Falls; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a beloved friend, Marie Rofitzhi.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley.
Sylvester F. Marek, 85
Sylvester F. Marek, 85, of River Falls, died at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, on Monday, Feb. 1, 1999.
He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Big River, in the town of Oak Grove, the son of Frank and Agnes (Dusek) Marek.
He and his wife, Alvera (Killian) farmed in the Big River area until his retirement when they moved to River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald; and his brother, Jerome.
He is survived by his wife, Alvera; his children: Bill and Mary, and Bob and Kitty; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Marion and Marvin Pechacek and Doris Langer.
Funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 3, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Big River.

Dorothy M. Kusilek, 92
Dorothy M. Kusilek, 92, of River Falls died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
Funeral was Monday, Feb. 1, at St. Bridget Catholic Church.
Burial was in St. Bridget's Cemetery.

John B. Marsh, 73
John Barney Marsh, 73, of Spring Valley died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Hendry Regional Medical Center, Clewiston, Fla., from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born Feb. 13, 1925, the son of John and Olga (Komisrud) Marsh in Beldenville. He was baptized and confirmed and a lifelong member of Martell United Methodist Church, Spring Valley.
He grew up in the Spring Valley area and attended Forrestville School. On Sept. 4, 1943, he married Frances V. Bradley in Red Wing, Minn. They had three children: David, Cheryl and Gail.
He farmed in the town of Martell until 1979. He also worked on the road during that time. In 1979 he bought into John's Sanitation and owned and operated the business until about 1989.
He loved fishing, golfing and his home in Florida. He has been spending winters there for a number of years. He had served on the United Martell Methodist Church Council and various committees.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Olga; his wife, Frances, who died in 1979; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Marsh; three brothers: Coyde, Clyde and Rex; and three sisters: Gladys Marsh, Hazel Davies and Irene Peterson.
Survivors include his children: David Marsh of Ellsworth, Cheryl and Alan Ciche of Kiel and Gail and Randy Baar of River Falls; his beloved friend, Marie Rositzki of Spring Valley; 11 grandchildren: Brian, Nathan and Danny Baar; Dean and Nicole Marsh, Troy Marsh; Todd, Ryan and Angela Ciche; Lori and Bill Bierne, Kris and Chris Bartch and Nikki Kohlman; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Bartch; two brothers-in-law: Bill Davies of St. Paul and Roger 'Huns' Peterson of Prescott; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral was Friday, Feb. 5, at Rush River Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Swanson officiating. Music was provided by organist Heather Johnson and vocalist Nancy Montgomery.
Burial was in Beldenville Cemetery in Beldenville.
Pallbearers were John's grandsons: Brian Baar, Nathan Baar, Danny Baar, Dean Marsh, Troy Marsh, Todd Ciche and Ryan Ciche.
Theodore J. Highe, 44
Theodore Joseph Highe, 44, of River Falls and formerly of Michigan, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been a patient for the past 6 months. He died as a result of injuries received from an automobile accident in June of 1998.
He was born Aug. 14, 1954, in Detroit, the son of Stanley and Lottie Frances (Bienkowski) Highe. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1972.
He also graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science degree and received his master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. From 1988-90 he was employed as a business systems consultant for Delta Dental Plan of California and for Foundation Health Corporation in Sacramento, Calif. Since 1990 he has been employed by Health Partners Inc. in Minneapolis as a senior systems analyst supervisor.
He enjoyed pottery, photography and since 1991, his 20-acre hobby farm outside of River Falls. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog companion, Chuck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Lottie.
He is survived by his sister, Veronica Bartlett of Redford, Mich.; three brothers: Stanley and Carla Highe of Redford, Albert and Sheila Highe of Redwood City, Calif., and George and Debbie Highe of Redford; nieces and nephews: Joann and Nick Paglia, Cheryl and Steve Stephens, Christine, Edward, Veronica, Christopher, Timothy, Alan, Scott and Ian; great-nieces, Maddalena and Dante; a special family, the Daniels, from Wisconsin; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation was Friday, Feb. 5, with a scripture service at the Nelson-Murphy Funeral Home.
His remains were cremated. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Darla Wolf was organist and Anne Borchardt was cantor.
Pallbearers were: Stanley Highe, Albert Highe, George Highe, Ian Cozine, Adam Etlicher, Sam Gholson, Paul Skare and Greg Wolfe.
Memorials are preferred to the Muscular Dystrophy Society.

Ebba C. Hoffman, 87
Ebba C. Hoffman, 87, chair of the board of Smead Manufacturing Company, headquartered in Hastings, Minn., died on Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, following a brief illness.
She assumed ownership of the office filing supply manufacturing company after the death of her husband, Harold, in 1955. Under her leadership, the 100% women-owned company grew from annual sales of $4 million and 350 employees, to $315 million and nearly 2,500 employees.
On July 1, 1998, she turned leadership responsibilities over to her daughter, Sharon L. Avent, by naming her president and CEO. In August of 1998, the company acquired Atlanta-Hoogezand B.V., a privately held office products manufacturer headquartered in the Netherlands.
After that acquisition, Smead Manufacturing has annual revenues in excess of $400 million with approximately 2,900 employees at 10 manufacturing and 15 distribution facilities in North America and Europe.
During Ebba's years as president of the company, Smead won numerous awards from its customers as an outstanding vendor and she was named "Boss of the Year" by the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1977 she was honored as the first woman inducted into the Minnesota Business Hall of Fame.
Under Ebba and her daughter, Sharon, Smead Manufacturing has been listed by Working Woman magazine as one of the top women-owned businesses in America for the past several years. In 1998 Smead was listed as 44th on the list of the top 500 women-owned businesses.
Smead was founded in 1906 and is a leading manufacturer of home and office filing and records management supplies including Smeadlink, the software product line introduced in 1995. Smead Manufacturing Company has an office at 702 N. Troy St., River Falls.
Ebba was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; and her son, John Peter.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon and Terry Avent; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hastings.
