Max Werner
HOLCOMBE - Max C. Werner, 77, passed away Friday, August 11, 2000, at his home in Lake Holcombe with his family.
He was born August 5, 1923, in Bloomer to Henry & Bertha (Rihn) Werner. He married Margueritte Jennings December 24, 1945, in Hopewell, VA. He attended the University of Wisconsin and Madison Business College. He owned and operated Werner's Hardware Store in Bloomer with his brother, and later was a cost accountant at Mason Shoe in Chippewa Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Margueritte of Lake Holcombe; one son, Jeff Werner of Elk Mound; one daughter, Pam Reetz of Chippewa Falls; one sister, Jeannette Waarvik of Black River Falls; four grandchildren, Tracey Cowley, Stephanie Reetz, Sam and Kate Werner; and pets, Maggie, George and Annie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Archie and Richard Werner; and two sisters, Bernice Brooks and infant, Isabella.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bloomer, with Rev. Bruce Rimmereid officiating. Interment of Cremains will be in Bloomer City Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is in charge of arrangements.
Floren Boe
Floren Boe, 91, of Blair, died Friday, November 24, 2000, at Grand View Care Center in Blair.
Floren was born on May 28, 1909, in Trempealeau County to Ole and Gina (Estenson) Boe. He enlisted in the United States Army in March of 1942, and was later given an honorable discharge due to health problems.
Floren married Dorothy M. Paulson on November 21, 1942, in Blair. Together they farmed in Trempealeau and Jackson counties and in 1971, bought a farm near Beaches Corner. They sold the farm in 1996, and moved to Blair. Dorothy preceded Floren in death one month ago on October 24, 2000.
Floren was an avid deer hunter, loved to dance and enjoyed his farm work and gardening. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Blair and a member of Hanson-Lien American Legion Post #368 of Hixton-Taylor for over fifty years.
Floren is survived by four sons, Richard (Pat) of Stevens Point, David of Blair, James of Wauzeka and Dennis of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren, Ashley, Jerry and James Boe; two brothers, Raymond (Mabel) and Clifford (Doris) Boe, both of Taylor; and a sister, Beatrice Kullick of Blair.
In addition to his parents and wife, Floren was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville and Ernest Boe; and a sister, Irene Schwartz.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery, both in Blair. Revs. Gary Hanson and Kevin Jones will officiate. Graveside military services will be held by the Hanson-Lien American Legion Post #368 of Hixton-Taylor.
Visitation will be today, November 27, 2000, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Jack Funeral Home in Blair and also one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Sister Niceta Dierkhising
Sister Niceta Dierkhising, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 25th at The Clairemont. She was a member of the Benedictine community at St. Bede Monastery in Eau Claire.
Born in Meire Grove, Minnesota, Sister Niceta entered religious life at St. Benedict's Convent, St. Joseph, Minnesota, in 1930. In 1992, she celebrated a diamond jubilee, 60 years as a professed religious.
Sister's first assignments in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Richland Center, Wisconsin, were in cooking and other domestic work. When St. Bede Priory was founded in Eau Claire in 1948, she joined the new community. She was first stationed at St. Thomas More, La Crosse, then at Altoona Boys School. Nursing care, especially of the aged, later became the focus of her work at Marycrest and St. Benedict Nursing Home in Durand. When Marycrest closed, Sister Niceta went to Regis Convent in Eau Claire to assist with the care of elderly and infirm sisters living there. From 1982-92, she worked at St. Bede Center, then retired to Lakeside in Chippewa Falls and recently to The Clairemont.
Besides the St. Bede community, one sister and three brothers survive Sister Niceta: Sister Fabian, St. Cloud, Minnesota; Anthony (Alvina) and Herbert (Dolores) of Melrose, Minnesota, and Martin (Marjorie) of Cold Spring, Minnesota.
Preceding Sister in death were her parents; two brothers, Joseph (Felicia) and Aloysious (Jeanette); and three sisters, Sister Rosalia, Dorothy and Emilia Roering (Othmer).
A visitation for Sister Niceta will begin at St. Bede Monastery Chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 28th, to be followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Father Thomas Krieg, St. Bede Chaplain, will be celebrant for the Eucharist. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Mattie Montgomery
MONDOVI -- Mattie P. Montgomery, 98, of Mondovi died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.
She was born September 5, 1902, in Albany township, Pepin county, the daughter of Edwin and Hulda (Belden) Davis. Mattie married Walter Bilderback April 25, 1920. They moved to Chetek, where their children were born. They later divorced. Mattie married Harry Montgomery April 9, 1957. He preceded her in death May 24, 1981. She lived in the Durand area for several years, returning to Mondovi 10 years ago. Mattie was a former member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Friendship Church in Mondovi.
She is survived by a son, Alan Bilderback of Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Pepin and Della Davis of North Manchester, Ind.; special nieces and nephew, Elgia Kohlman of Mondovi, Orma Spangberg of Eleva, and Ray Lawrence of Mondovi; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; a daughter, Rosalie; two sons, William and Kenneth; four sisters, Eva, Nona, Verna and Alcie; and five brothers, Walter, Earl, Wilfred, Elmer and Roy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2000, at Friendship Church in Mondovi. Pastor Dale Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in East Pepin Cemetery, rural Mondovi.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Poeschel Funeral Home in Mondovi and one hour prior to the time of services at the church.

Melvin Pederson
ELEVA -- Melvin R. Pederson, 82, of rural Eleva passed away Saturday, November 25, 2000, at his home.
He was born on February 6, 1918, in the town of Drammen, Eau Claire, Co., Wis., to Bennie and Clara (Aasen) Pederson. He served in the Army in World War II in Europe. He married Shirley Harvey on Aug. 10, 1946, in Eleva. Mel farmed in the town of Drammen and was employed by National Presto Industries in Eau Claire and later by Buffalo Valley Building Center in Mondovi. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Pederson of Eleva; five children, Gerald Pederson of Eau Claire, Roger (Debbie) Pederson of Bismarck, N. D., Mary (Joe) Ward of Durand, James (Jean) Pederson of Eleva; and Robert (Chris) Pederson of Eleva; eight grandchildren, Geremy Pederson, Scott Pederson, Jamie (Jennifer) Ward, John Ward, James Ward, Katy Pederson, Megan Pederson and Heather Pederson; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel Pederson and Joel Ward.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joel Daniel Ward; his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with Rev. James Tallman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery in Mondovi. Flag presentation will be conducted at the cemetery by the Mondovi American Legion Post #154.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. or on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi. Friends may also call at the church for one hour before the service.
Rev. Charles P. Schumacher
MARSHFIELD -- Father Charles P. Schumacher, 77, died Friday morning, November 24, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He had been retired and living at Corpus Christi Parish in Bakerville since 1995.
Father Schumacher was born on July 3, 1923, in Colfax, Wisconsin, to Peter and Mathilda (Doelle) Schumacher. He received his elementary education at Prairie Town Tainter School in Dunn County (1929-1932) and St. Joseph School in Menomonie, Wisconsin (1932-1937). He received his high school diploma from St. Lawrence High School in Mount Calvary, Wisconsin, and from there went on to St. John's College in Collegeville, Minnesota, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. His theological studies were taken at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland. Father Schumacher was ordained a priest for the Diocese of La Crosse by the Most Reverend John P. Treacy at St. Joseph Cathedral in La Crosse on April 24, 1948.
Father Schumacher's initial appointments as an assistant pastor were at St. Anthony Parish in Athens (1948-50), St. Mary's Parish in Wausau (1950-51), and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Arcadia (1951-53). While in Arcadia, he was the Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Arcadia Court.
From 1953 to 1976 Father Schumacher accepted a commission in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He served one year of active duty in 1961-62, in Fort Lewis, Washington as chaplain. Later in 1969, he was assigned the chaplaincy for the 257th Artillery Group in Whitefish Bay. Father Schumacher was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1976.
While serving his commission with the National Guard, Father Schumacher was also assigned assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Eau Claire (1956-58), St. Anthony Parish in Athens (1958-1959), pastor at St. John's Parish in Wuerzburg and administrator of St. Thomas Mission in Milan (1959-1971). In 1971, he was named pastor of St. Mark parish in Rothschild, where he remained until 1981. Thereafter, he was named pastor of St. Stephen Parish in Chili (1981) and pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Bakerville (1982). In 1988, he resumed the pastorate of St. Stephen Parish in Chili, serving these two parishes until 1995, when he was granted retirement and the status of senior priest.
Father Schumacher was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Joseph.
He is survived by one brother and his spouse, Frank and Rita Schumacher of Colfax; two sisters, Agnes Schumacher of Colfax and Margaret Schrantz of Elk Mound; five nieces; and five nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Church on Tuesday, November 28th at 11 a.m., with Bishop Raymond Burke as celebrant and Very Rev. Leonard Kaiser as homilist. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield.
Visitation will be held at Corpus Christi Church today, November 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rosary led by the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning prior to the liturgy.
The family and Diocese of La Crosse are being assisted by Rembs-Kundinger Funeral Home, 300 Oak Avenue of Marshfield.
Members of the Purgatorial Society are reminded to offer three Masses for the repose of the soul of Father Schumacher.

Hilda Spindler
Hilda Loretta (Van de Loo) Spindler, 83, of Eau Claire, died Friday, November 24, 2000, at her home after a battle with cancer. She was cared for by her husband Ray, with the help of St. Joseph's Hospice.
Hilda was born November 27, 1916, in Rozellville, town of Day, Marathon County, Wis., to Anton and Anna (Rammer) Van de Loo. Hilda was married to Raymond Spindler on November 12, 1938, in Wausau, Wis., by Msgr. O'Shaughnessy. They lived in Rothschild, Wis., before moving to Eau Claire in 1939.
Hilda was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Anthony's group and St. Ann's Society. She participated fully in the life of Sacred Heart, volunteering for a wide variety of activities. Her church was an integral part of her life and she enjoyed living "just down the street" from Sacred Heart. Hilda was also employed for a short time at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Hilda's hobbies included knitting, sewing, crocheting and crafts. She also enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; children, Douglas (Mary) Spindler of Hudson, Wis., Lois (Jerome) Tollefson of Fridley, Minn., Gary (Phyllis) Spindler of Minnetonka, Minn., Marlene (James) Safford of Seward, Neb., Terrance (Mary ) Spindler of Stevensville, Mich., Bruce (Sandra) Spindler of Crown Point, Ind., James (Wendy) Spindler of Lakeville, Minn., and Gail (Timothy Payne) Spindler of Eau Claire; brothers, Vincent (Frances) Van de Loo and Lawrence Sylvester (Marion) Van de Loo, both of Marshfield, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Anna; two infant sons, Russell and Dennis; sisters, Rose Wenzel, Florence Drexler, Gertrude Kraus and Sophie Van de Loo; and brother, Alois Van de Loo.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, November 29, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Kurt Apfelbeck officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday, November 28, 2000, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Golden Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Avenue, where there will be a 5:45 p.m. Public Rosary, and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Sacred Heart Hospital Regional Cancer Center.
