Eunice B. Klein, 97
Eunice B. Klein, 97, of River Falls, and formerly of Ellsworth, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at The Lutheran Home: River Falls.
She was born Dec. 22, 1901, in Ellsworth, the daughter of August and Sarah E. (Muehleis) Buettner. She was a 1918 graduate of Ellsworth High School and later the Lutheran Ladies Seminary in Red Wing, Minn., where she earned a certificate in stenography.
She was also a June, 1923, graduate of the Gregg School of Shorthand in Chicago. She married Alfred Nordgren on Aug. 5, 1933, in Washington County, Iowa. He died June 22, 1959. She later married Walter Klein on Nov. 6, 1970, in Ellsworth. He died Nov. 23, 1976.
She was employed as a legal secretary in Ellsworth and Galesberg, Ill. She was also a court reporter in Galesberg. Later she was a deputy clerk of court for Pierce County for many years.
She was an active member of Hartland United Methodist Church, a 4-H leader, Hartland town treasurer for many years, and an active member of the Ellsworth Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alfred Nordgren, and Walter Klein; one daughter, Patricia Hauschildt; a son-in-law, Ervin Hauschildt; and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son, James and Barbara Nordgren of River Falls; four grandchildren: Jane and Keith Hauschildt, Jim and Diane Hauschildt, Steve and Lisa Nordgren, and Tom Nordgren; five great-grandchildren: Amanda, Hanna and Hayden Hauschildt and Sara and Alison Nordgren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hartland United Methodist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Bruce Stunkard officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the Hill-McLaughlin Funeral Home in Ellsworth from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Memorials may be given to the Hartland United Methodist Church.
Sylvester F. Marek, 85
Sylvester F. Marek, 85, of River Falls, died at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, on Monday, Feb. 1, 1999.
He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Big River, in the town of Oak Grove, the son of Frank and Agnes (Dusek) Marek.
He and his wife, Alvera (Killian) farmed in the Big River area until his retirement when they moved to River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his son, Donald; and his brother, Jerome.
He is survived by his wife, Alvera; his children: Bill and Mary, and Bob and Kitty; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Marion and Marvin Pechacek and Doris Langer.
Funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 3, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Big River.

Lucille M. Bauer, 79
Lucille M. Bauer, 79, of River Falls, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the American Heritage Nursing Home in Hammond.
She was born Aug. 12, 1919, in Eau Galle, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Webb) Lieffring. She married Lawrence A. Bauer on May 1, 1941. She was employed at Malmer Red & White as a meat wrapper, as a clerk at Fox's Ace Hardware, as a cook at UW-River Falls, and at Smead Manufacturing Company in Hastings, Minn.
She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Women of the Moose. She was also a member of the Good Sam Club.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Marjorie; one granddaughter, Samantha Reese; one brother, Frederick; and two sisters: Rosalie and Veronica.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; two sons: Larry and Loriann of River Falls, and Randy and Teddi of River Falls; three daughters: Sharon and Marvin Utecht of Woodville, Linda and Tom Price of Boyceville, and Christine Bauer of N. Hollywood, Calif.; six sisters: Sister Helen Lieffring of LaCrosse, Delores Cornellier of Menomonie, Elizabeth and Ronald Darsie of Coon Rapids, Minn., Annabel Bozille of Woodville, Jean Ovsak of River Falls, and Mary and Sherman Kiekhofer of Emerald; two brothers: John and Cecelia Lieffring of Clear Lake and Frances and Norieda Lieffring of Ellsworth; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Bridget Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Interment was in St. Bridget Cemetery.

Laverne B. Wolf, 73
Laverne B. Wolf, 73, of River Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at the River Falls Area Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1925, in the town of Oak Grove, to Albert E. and Martha (Belter) Wolf. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Oak Grove.
Entering the U.S. Navy in February of 1943, he served in the South Pacific until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. Marrying Sylvia Pfluger on Jan. 1, 1947, he farmed in St. Croix and Pierce counties. They had three children: Richard, Ronald and Sheryl.
He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1963, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Pierce County VFW and the Costello-Madsen American Legion Post #61, where he held numerous post, county and district offices. He also served many years on the Prescott School Board, as a founding board member of the St. Croix Care Center, and a member of many other civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha; his brother, Lewis Wolf; and his sisters: Lucille Mausolf and Lorraine Bredahl.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his brother, LeRoy Wolf of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; his sister, LaVelle Wolf of River Falls; two sons: Richard and Mary of Menomonie, and Ronald of River Falls; a daughter, Sheryl and Dana Turner of Burnsville, Minn.; four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Services were to be held Thursday, Feb. 11, at St. John's United Church of Christ in of the town of Oak Grove, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.
Visitation was to be at Cashman Mortuary on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Paul C. Burch, 52
St. Croix County Sheriff Paul Corwin Burch, 52, of Somerset, died suddenly at his home on Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1946, in the town of Sheridan in Dunn County, the son of Julian and Irene (Bydg) Burch. He attended grade school in Hawthorne, Calif., and Orono, Minn.
He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1964. Following high school, he attended Eau Claire Technical College.
On Jan. 6, 1968, he married Connie Elaine Radunzel at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin. They had two children.
Shortly after his marriage, Paul was hired by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department as a county deputy in March of 1968. He then went to the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy where he became fully certified in law enforcement.
During his career, he was promoted to investigator and was serving as sheriff at the time of his death. He was initially elected sheriff in 1994 and was recently elected to his 3rd term.
He had many accomplishments and achievements while working in law enforcement. He was the Police Officer of the Year in Wisconsin in 1984. He specialized in child abuse and sexual assault cases. He was a past-president of the Tri County Law Enforcement Association.
He was an influential member of the St. Croix County Drug Task Force and the Northeast Metro Drug Task Force. He also served on an Asian Gang Task Force.
He was a negotiator for the St. Croix County Emergency Response Unit. He also started the Counter Act Drug Awareness program and was a national instructor. He was a member of the Wisconsin's Sheriff's and Deputy Sheriff's Association and the Badger State Sheriff's Association. He was also on the advisory team for Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) law enforcement curriculum.
He enjoyed attending auctions, as well as buying and collecting antiques. He enjoyed watching high school sports, especially wrestling and football. He was an avid Somerset Spartan supporter.
He loved the outdoors. He liked to go bear hunting and served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Bear Hunter's Association. He raised dogs, which he took with him while hunting bear, and recently purchased a home on Bone Lake, where he spent time with his family and friends.
He served on the board of directors for the St. Croix County United Way Fund Drive. He was also a past member of the Somerset Fire Department.
He loved his family and was looked up to by them and others as a hero.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard, in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Connie; his daughters: Amy of Somerset and Marcy of Woodbury, Minn.; his parents: Julian and Irene of Hammond; his brother, David and Bonnie of Amery; his sister, Becky and David Fowler of New Richmond; his nieces and nephews: Joshua, Todd, Jamie, Ryan, Amy Lou, and Richard, Jr.; his in-laws: Glenn and Elaine Radunzel of Baldwin; his brothers-in-law: Roger and Cheri Radunzel of River Falls, Kent and Jeri Radunzel of Baldwin, Richard and Shauna Radunzel of Janesville, Jeffrey Radunzel of Federal Way, Wash.; sisters-in-law: Cathy Burch of Minong, Pam and Gordon Pribnow of Hammond, Lori and Paul Severson of Zumbrota, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral was Tuesday, Nov. 17, at St. Anne's Church in Somerset, with the Rev. Donald Lindner of Christ Lutheran Church in Somerset. Organists Sharon Neuenfeldt and Janelle Sutherland accompanied Jerry and Jeanne Germain.
Interment was to be in Chimney Rock Cemetery in Connersville, near Boyceville. Visitation was Monday at the Somerset Middle School.
Memorials are preferred and the family will be using the funds to establish a scholarship fund.
James S. Boles, 67
James Stewart Boles, 67, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, of complications resulting from congestive heart failure.
He was born Sept. 1, 1931, in River Falls, the son of Robert and Marie Boles. He graduated from River Falls High School and attended Westminster Choir College, obtaining a bachelor's degree in music in 1956.
A year later he became minister of music for John Knox Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, Okla., overseeing some 10 choirs and producing visual and performing arts programs within that church. In 1968 he left full-time church music to work for American Airlines.
He continued his choral music vocation part-time from 1975-1981 as music director for College Hill Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. In 1975 he transferred his membership to that church and was elected an elder in 1976. During the early 1970s, he also directed and acted in musicals for Theatre Tulsa.
He married Suzanne Crawford Holcombe in September of 1971. In 1981 they moved abroad to work for the Arabian-American Oil Company. They returned to Grove, Okla., in 1992 where he organized the Grand Lake Arts & Humanities Council and began teaching voice and piano. He and Suzanne initiated the Playmakers and Jim reorganized the Community Chorale.
A memorial concert was held in his memory on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Grove.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Karen and Scott Knowles and their children, Matthew and Calvin and her mother, Carolyn McCright; and his uncle and aunts: Dean and Mamie Boles of Bloomington, Minn., Helen McKay of Carlsbad, N.M., and Mildred Cain of Niles, Mich.

Lois J. Forehand, 70
Lois Jean Forehand, 70, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at United Hospital in St. Paul.
She was a native of River Falls, and was born Nov. 24, 1927, to Richard and Rose Ward.
She enjoyed her childhood growing up on the family farm where she lived until graduating from the State Teacher's College in 1949 with a bachelor of science degree in English, French and Library Methods.
After graduation she set out to fulfill her lifelong dream of teaching and reaching out to others. She taught many years in New Richmond, Ellsworth, River Falls and Prescott.
On June 16, 1951, she married Roy Forehand, Jr.
She enjoyed baking, knitting, music and most of all, the time she spent with family and friends.
She was an active member of the Christian Book Club, Home Culture Club and many ladies bridge groups.
She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ as well as being the church organist for many years in River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Rose Ward; and an infant brother.
She is survived by her husband, Roy; two daughters: Julie and Keith Hansen of River Falls and Jane and William Schaub of Lakeland, Minn.; and five children: Lindsay and Marissa Hansen and Justin, Alicia and Karina Schaub.
Funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Delbert Permann and the Rev. Beth Faeth officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
