Henry Ernst, 95, of Butternut, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Butternut; Father James Jackson officiating.
Burial was in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut.
He was born Feb. 5, 1904, in Bavaria. His parents were Franz Xaver and Anna (Kellermeier) Ernst.
The family moved to Butternut in 1905. He grew up and attended school in Butternut and was a life-long resident of Butternut.
He married Virginia Jarosz June 20, 1933, in Butternut. She preceded him in death in 1970.
He worked in area logging camps and at Butternut Veneer Mill. He and his wife owned and operated the family farm for many years.
He is survived by three children, Dorothy (Louis) Bubenic of Phillips and William (Vivian) Ernst and John (Paulette) Ernst, both of Butternut; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Pongratz of Duluth, MN; two sisters, Mary (George) Ertl of Butternut and Kate Schmidt of Park Falls; and by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Viola Meier; a son, Donald; and two sisters, Grace Lemke and Ann Hadl.
The family expressed thanks to great nephew John Ertl for all his help.
Hansen-Marinko
Jennifer Jill Hansen-Marinko, 41, of Fifield, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at her home.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls; Deacon Chet Ball officiating.
She was born Oct. 24, 1957, in Madison, the daughter of Carol Haugen-Young.
She worked as a wreath maker in the Fifield area for 20 years. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed motorcross racing with her two special nephews, Bill and Jesse Kasowicz. She loved fishing and gardening and especially loved life. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by two children, Nicholas Robert and Daniel James Marinko; her mother, Carol (the late Gerald) Young; 10 brothers and sisters, Helen (Earl) Ballweg, Phyllis (Joe) Ballweg, Russell Hansen, David (Beth) Hansen, Carrie (Mike) Sorkan, Janet (Frank) Kasowicz, Peggy (Pete) Meegan, Melanie Hansen, Norm Gunter and Steve Hansen; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Donations will be accepted for the children in the name of Janet and Frank Kasowicz.
Koran
Jesse Koran, 74, of Nekoosa, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Riverview Manor, Wisconsin Rapids.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Forest Hill Chapel; Rev. Donald Wigler officiating.
Entombment was in Forest Hill Mausoleum, with military rites under the auspices of Wisconsin Rapids American Legion Post No. 9.
He was born May 5, 1925, in Butternut. His parents were Aloys and Amelia (Hildebrand) Koran.
He married Merita Jadack June 11, 1955, in Wisconsin Rapids.
He joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17. He served during World War II in both the European and South Pacific theatres.
He later served in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Georgia Pacific Corporation in 1985. He was a color engineer.
He served on the town of Port Edwards board and on his county board. He was county board chairman for two years. He also served on many state and federal committees and was a member of the American Security Council National Advisory Board.
He was a life member of the Wisconsin Rapids American Legion and of Heisler-Mockler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6903 of Park Falls. He was a member of the NRA Past Commanders Club and of various other organizations. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Judy) Koran of Nekoosa; a daughter, Ann (Andre) Cortes of Madison; two grandchildren; three brothers, Allen (Jackie) Koran, James (Sylvia) Koran and Ronald (Lois) Koran, all of Nekoosa; and four sisters, Francis Small of Oklahoma, Virginia (Edward) Stangle and Patricia Hammond, both of Park Falls, and Barbara (Ross) Miltimore of Nekoosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to St. Josephs Hospital, Marshfield, for cancer research.
Lemke
Dennis M. Lemke, 46, of Park Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at his home.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 29, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Park Falls; Rev. Loren Barker officiating.
Burial will be in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
He was born Aug. 13, 1953, the son of Donna (Gene) Jesse and the late Emil Lemke.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War.
After serving his country, he lived in California for a time, then returned to the Park Falls area, where he worked as a cook.
He is survived by his mother; two sisters, Virginia (Dan) Vuchetich of Park Falls and Vicki (Chuck) Ottosen of Wittenberg; three brothers, Duane (Shelia) Lemke of Tomahawk, William (Sydra) Lemke of Ogema and Joe Lemke of Antigo; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Brian Lemke.
Lucas
Robert L. Lucas, 62, of Park Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 2, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Merrill. His parents were William and Alma (Retzlaff) Lucas.
He grew up and attended school in Butternut.
He worked for the Butternut Creamery and the USDA Forest Service.
He is survived by two brothers, Dave (Donna) Lucas and Wally Lucas, both of Park Falls; and a nephew.
Reavis, Norma Johanna Reavis, 82, of Rib Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Rib Lake Health Care Center.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 2, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rib Lake; Rev. John Meyer officiaitng.
Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake.
She was born Sept. 22, 1917, in the town of Agenda. Her parents were John and Elizabeth (Thoms) Hamann.
She attended Ashland County Public Schools and graduated from Butternut High School.
She married Floyd Minor Reavis Nov. 29, 1941, in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 1976.
They lived in Curtis until moving to the town of Greenwood in 1956, where they owned and operated a dairy farm for over 20 years.
More recently, she performed housekeeping duties at Rib Lake Health Care Center for over 10 years.
She enjoyed embroidery and listening to music and loved to dance.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rib Lake.
She is survived by a son, Douglas (Roseanne) Reavis of Rib Lake; a sister, Betty "Nootzy" Reavis of Park Falls; two grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother; and a sister.
Romanowich
Bertha Romanowich, 84, of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Butternut.
She was born June 4, 1915, in Butternut. Her parents were George and Anna (Kronberger) Haun.
She was a graduate of Butternut High School and was a life-long resident of the Butternut and Park Falls areas.
She married Walter J. Romanowich April 24, 1934, in Butternut. He preceded her in death in 1967.
She worked for Munsingwear and the IGA grocery store in Park Falls, and later as a teller at First National Bank in Park Falls until her retirement.
She held several offices in the Catholic Daughters and was a member of the Christian Women, the Golden Age Society and the American Association of Retired Persons. She was treasurer of the American Cancer Society and was very active in the ACS.
She volunteered for many community services and activities.
She is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Willard) Washatka of Park Falls and Jean Rominske of Maple Grove, MN; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida (George) Woody of Park Falls and Frances Neuberger of Butternut; two brothers, John (Lillian) Haun of Milwaukee and James (Agnes) Haun of Sparta; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Marian Edbauer and Michaelene Rentschler; and a brother, Arthur Haun.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Anthony's Padua Center.
Schoch
Otto Schoch, 98, of Glidden, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Friday, Jan. 28, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Glidden; Father John Scheer officiating.
Burial will be in Most Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
He was born May 11, 1901, in Glidden and was a life-long resident of Glidden. His parents were Anton and Mary (Schwilk) Schoch.
He was a logger and was employed as a carpenter for Schraufnagel Lumber.
He married Madeline Heyel April 27, 1932, in Glidden. She preceded him in death in 1994.
He is survived by three sons, Eugene (Ricky) Schoch of Berlin, Alvin (Mary Ann) Schoch of Glidden and Larry (Judy) Schoch of Wausau; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Schoch of Glidden; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Edward and Ervin Schoch; and two sisters, Katherine Pankratz and Helen Throm.
