"Gene" Harold Eugene Johnston, 73, of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father Clement Sobr officiating.
A parish prayer vigil was held Sunday, Aug. 8, at the church.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Park Falls. His parents were Hoddie and Barbara (Kundinger) Johnston.
He grew up and attended school in Park Falls.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He married Philomene "Phyllis" Radlinger Aug. 5, 1944, in Park Falls.
He owned and operated a logging and trucking business; then was employed for more than 20 years by Flambeau Paper Mill.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Howard (Marcella) Johnston of Rudolph; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a half-brother, William C. (Loretta) Dohm of Fifield; and by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Daniel E. Johnston Sr.
Petroski
Breanna Elaine Petroski, 7, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, as the result of an accident.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 19, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butternut; Rev. Michael Paholke officiating.
Visitation is at the church today from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Glidden.
She was born Feb. 24, 1992, in Ashland. Her parents are Faith Wagner of Butternut and Robert Petroski of Glidden.
She attended Butternut School and would have been in second grade this year.
She is survived by her parents; three brothers, Bobby, Steven and Jordan; her maternal grandmother, Marlene (Chuck) Reeder of Glidden; her paternal grandparents, Paul and Elsie Petroski of Glidden; her maternal great-grandparents, Elaine Wagner of Glidden and Ted and Shirley Lawver of Glidden; her paternal great-grandmother, Caroline Jamieson of Butternut; and by many aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Clifford Glen Wagner.
Weborg
Roy Farrell Weborg, 85, of Marshfield, and formerly of Park Falls, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospice, Marshfield.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 16, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, Park Falls; Rev. Peter Ruggles officiating.
Burial was in Port Wing Cemetery.
He was born June 27, 1914, in Fosston, MN. His parents were John and Petra (Bagstad) Weborg.
He graduated from McIntosh, MN, High School and from Minnesota State Teachers College.
He married Elsa Pearson Sept. 1, 1941, in Port Wing.
He operated businesses in Park Falls for many years and was also employed by the USDA Forest Service in Park Falls.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal in the 172nd Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded five battle stars for combat, received the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged Nov. 25, 1945.
He was a member of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls and of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Park Falls.
He and his wife were foster parents to 18 children.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Rand (Cindy) Weborg of Lake Tomahawk; three daughters, Annette (Steven) McCabe of Marshfield, Kristen (Ken) Kulzick of Waukesha and Victoria (Charles) Smith of St. Paul, MN; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, David Weborg of Florida and Glen (Virginia) Weborg of Minneapolis; two sisters, Florence Rude of Fosston, MN, and Grayce Mathias of Arvada, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Scherwinsky
Iola Mae Scherwinsky, 91, of Vero Beach, FL, and formerly of Park Falls, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at Indian River Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 21, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Vero Beach; Rev. Robert R. Cofer Sr. officiating.
She was born Nov. 6, 1907, in Johnstown Center, WI. She lived in Park Falls for 32 years, and moved to Vero Beach 19 years ago from West Point, IA.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the American Association of Retired Persons; and the council on aging, all in Vero Beach.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Jim) DeGrote of Vero Beach; a sister, Viola Halbrader of Willard, WI, and by nieces and nephews.
Oesterreich
William "Bill" R. Oesterreich Sr., 104, of Merrill, and formerly of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 4, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
A masonic service was held Friday, Sept. 3, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
He was born Feb. 4, 1895, in Milwaukee. His parents were Phillip and Selma (Loebel) Oesterreich.
He lived in Milwaukee until age nine, when the family moved to Park Falls.
He married Ella Schfalke Aug. 1, 1917, in Park Falls. She preceded him in death in 1975.
He was a master mechanic with Vincent and Vincent Ford in Park Falls for 36 years.
He built the Park Falls golf course on land owned by his family and later built the clubhouse. He also sold land to the city of Park Falls for the Park Falls Municipal Airport, and managed the airport until moving to Merrill.
He was also a butcher and played in a polka band. He was a drummer for silent movies.
He was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Park Falls Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by three children, Vernon (Helen) Oesterreich of Fargo, ND, Ruth (Roman) Radlinger of Merrill and Billy Jr. of Park Falls; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a great-granddaughter, Sandy Oesterreich; and by 14 brothers and sisters.
Peters
Agnes Grace Peters, 69, of Bristol, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha.
Services were held Sunday, Sept. 5, at Strang Funeral Home, Antioch, IL.
She was born June 9, 1930, in Raddison Township. Her parents were Ignatius and Grace (Halverson) Balczewski.
She married William Peters April 19, 1949, in Park Falls. He preceded her in death in 1990.
She lived at Rainbow Lake Manor in Bristol the past nine years and was a member of the Serendipity Club.
She is survived by two sons, James (Deena) of Shorewood and Michael (Patricia) of Brown Deer; a daughter, Debra (James) Sheckler of Lowell, MN; a sister, Theresa (Clark) Amundson of Madison; and five grandchildren.
Dodge
Pearl Dodge, 68, of Milwaukee, and formerly of Butternut, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church, Milwaukee; Rev. George Richter officiating.
Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the church.
She was born Pearl Sanborn Sept. 26, 1930, in Norwalk, WI.
She and her husband, Marlin (Slim) Dodge, were owners of Butternut Resort for several years.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Robin (Larry) Linsmeyer of Butternut; two grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.
