Edward R. Holloway, 90, of Park Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Masonic Temple in Park Falls.
He was born May 26, 1909, in Waukesha. His parents were Edward and Clara (Renner) Holloway.
He married Katherine Nelson June 10, 1934, in Park Falls. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dan (Diane) of Madison; a daughter, Kathy Walker of Park Falls; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Lodge No. 300 of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Boy Scouts of America or the American Heart Association.
Sister Mary Joyce
Sister Mary Joyce Schladweiler, 86, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, in Milwaukee.
She was born Marcella Schadweiler Aug. 6, 1913, and raised in Farmer, SD.
She entered the Order of St. Francis of Assisi on Aug. 25, 1934. She became a novice the following August, receiving the name of Mary Joyce.
She moved to Park Falls in September 1947, and taught 8th grade at St. Anthony School for seven years.
A widely-acclaimed poet, Sister Joyce was inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame in 1995. Three years later, her first volume of poetry, "Glimpses in Verse," was published.
In July of 1997, she observed her 60th jubilee as a Franciscan. A number of former students and friends from Park Falls celebrated with her at St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee.
She was the last survivor of a family of nine and is buried at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Milwaukee.
Phelps
Barbara Ann (Schultz) Phelps, 58, of Villa Park, IL, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, Villa Park, IL.
Burial will be in Butternut Union Cemetery.
She was born April 4, 1941. Her parents were Elmer and Alyce (Campbell) Schultz.
She is survived by her mother, who lives in Butternut; four children, Colleen (Sam) Szudarski of Villa Park, IL; Maureen (Eric) Maly of Darien, IL; Mary Bridget (Bruce) Graham of Joliet, IL; and Patrick McNicholas of Villa Park, IL; seven grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Simmet
Joseph Simmet Jr., 71, of Stevens Point, and formerly of Park Falls, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Services were held Thursday, Sept. 23, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
A Knights of Columbus service was held Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls, with military rites under the auspices of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Park Falls. His parents were Joseph and Mary (Svetil) Simmet.
He grew up and attended school in Park Falls.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948.
He married Betty L. Hett Oct. 14, 1950, in Park Falls.
The couple moved to Stevens Point in 1965. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 37-1/2 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 and Father Otto Weber Council No. 2639 of the Knights of Columbus, both of Park Falls.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Debra (Mark) Mader of Stevens Point and Marla Simmet of Dallas, TX; two granddaughters; and by other relatives and friends.
Tanner
Eileen R. Tanner, 80, of Park Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 25, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father James Jackson officiating.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
She was born May 12, 1919, in the town of Eisenstein. Her parents were Louis and Mary (Weiss) Hilgart.
She grew up and attended school in the Park Falls area.
She married Elvin Tanner Sr. June 21, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1994.
A homemaker, she was known as "grandma" to many area children.
She is survived by four children, Elvin (Mary) Tanner Jr., Mary (Gary) Zoesch, Jan Ebben and Kris (Eric) Scharp, all of Park Falls; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Tom, in 1980; a brother; and eight sisters.
Wendland
Viola B. Wendland, 99, of Park Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Monday, Sept. 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butternut; Rev. Michael Paholke officiating.
Burial was in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
She was born May 13, 1900, in Butternut. Her parents were Paul and Alvina (Yankee) Zoesch.
She grew up and attended school in Butternut.
She married Fred W. Wendland March 30, 1920, in Ashland. He preceded her in death in 1978.
The couple owned and operated Wendland's Lakeview Resort on Pike Lake.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Irene Kent of Kansas City, MO, and Norma Wartgow of Butternut; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Arvella Losby of Park Falls; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Dolores Benz in 1995; and by five sisters and a brother.
Bourgard
Elizabeth R. Bourgard, 76, of Park Falls, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Flambeau Hospital, Park Falls.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Peace Lutheran Church, Park Falls; Pastor Stanley Bahn officiating.
Burial will be in Nola Cemetery, Park Falls.
She was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Park Falls, and grew up and attended school in Park Falls. Her parents were Edward and Emma Bourgard.
She was employed at Flambeau Paper Co.
She is survived by Clara and Helen Bourgard; and by nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
