Fred E. Zoesch, 94, of Butternut, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Wednesday, May 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butternut; Rev. Michael Paholke officiating.
Burial was in Butternut Union Cemetery.
He was born June 24, 1904, in Butternut and was a life-long resident of Butternut. His parents were Paul and Alvina (Yankee) Zoesch.
He married Helen Williams Nov. 2, 1923, in Butternut. She preceded him in death in 1997.
He was a farmer and heavy equipment operator and was very active on church, school and town boards.
He loved fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by six sons, Paul (Elaine) Zoesch of Whitewater, Fred (Sandi) Zoesch of Gainesville, VA, David (Joanne) Zoesch and Bill (Bonnie) Zoesch, both of Butternut, and Gary (Mary) Zoesch and John (Jeanne) Zoesch, both of Park Falls; five daughters, Anita Altman of Park Falls, Dorothy (William) Ford and Lorraine (Frank) Furtak, both of Butternut, Ruth (Harvey) Bilz of Janesville and Barbara (Eugene) Scherwinski of Slinger; 35 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Marion Zoesch of Littleton, CO; two sisters, Viola Wendland of Park Falls and Arvella Losby of Springstead; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Lois Stempinski; a son, Eugene Zoesch; and four sisters.
Barta
Donald J. Barta of Blue Island, IL, and formerly of Park Falls, died Thursday, May 20, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Avis (Kelchner); four children, Lorraine (John) Arient, Edward (Patricia) Barta, Betty (Bill) Bittinger and Donald (Jennifer) Barta; two step-children, Dennis and Bud Barta; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Fuss
Henry Fuss, 91, of Park Falls, and formerly of Glidden, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Services were held Friday, May 28, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Glidden; Father Linus Evers officiating.
Burial was in Most Precious Blood Cemetery.
He was born May 31, 1907, in Milwaukee. His parents were Joseph and Josephine (Boaty) Fuss.
He married Adelaide Neumann June 6, 1928, in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death in 1983.
He married Catherine Wolf-Teeters Feb. 5, 1986, in Glidden.
He moved to the area in 1950. He was a farmer and carpenter, and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an avid stamp collector.
He is survived by his wife; four step-sons, Virgil (Delores) Teeters of Rockford, IL, Dennis (Rose) Teeters of Galena, IL, Norman (Nancy) Teeters of Nashville, TN, and Thom (Cyndi) Teeters of North Pole, AK; five step-daughters, Donna (Lowell) Sutton of Rockford, IL, Corinne Brandon of West Plaines, MO, Ardith (Don) Lund of Rockford, IL, Rita Falkowski of Wausau and Karen (Ron) Meyers of Sophia, NC; and by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Schmidt
Richard John Schmidt Sr., 76, of Park Falls, died Sunday, May 30, 1999.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Park Falls; Father Al Ebach officiating.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, June 3, at the Novitzke Funeral Home, Park Falls, with a parish prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m.
A private burial will be held at Nola Cemetery at a later date.
He was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Park Falls. His parents were John and Anna (Fenzl) Schmidt.
He graduated from Park Falls High School in 1940.
He worked in Milwaukee until enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He graduated from the Commercial Trade Institute in Chicago, IL.
He married Geraldine "Jeri" Reynolds June 5, 1947, in Park Falls.
He was an auto body repairman for 10 years, then worked at the Flambeau Paper Mill, where he started in the finishing room and worked his way to foreman and then to the planning department.
He was a member of Dirrigl-Sawales American Legion Post No. 182 of Park Falls and a former inaugural fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ronald (Carolyn) Schmidt of Tinley Park, IL, Richard (Alberta) Schmidt Jr. of Visalia, CA, and Donald (Noreen) Schmidt of Milford, MI; five grandchildren; five brothers, John (Mary Carol) Schmidt of Fort Dodge, IA, Donald (Johnni) Schmidt of Dayton, OH, Lawrence (Joanne) Schmidt of Medford, Robert (Ann) Schmidt of Hayward and James (Sharon) Schmidt of Amery; two sisters, Margaret (John) Rybak of Butternut and Angeline (Richard) LaRose of Park Falls; a brother-in-law, Quentin Hoth of Park Falls; a sister-in-law, Clifford Ann Schmidt of Sumter, SC; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald Schmidt; two sisters, Marion Newell and Rose Marie Hoth; and a brother-in-law, Willard "Chub" Newell.
Schroeder
Leon "Lee" Schroeder, 78, of Fifield, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Petersen Rehabilitation Center, Rhinelander.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Park Falls.
He was born March 28, 1921, in the town of Rolling in Langlade County, WI.
He graduated from Antigo High School in 1939.
During World War II, he served as a bombardier pilot in the Army Air Corps, European Theatre, from 1943 to 1945. He was discharged as a captain. He served in the Army Air Reserve from 1945 to 1955.
He married Emily Zellmer of Antigo in 1945 in Birmingham, AL. They had three daughters. She preceded him in death in 1970.
He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and obtained a bachelor's degree in business and finance in 1949, and graduated for the first NABAC (now Banking Administration Institute) class in 1955.
He worked at First National Bank of Monroe from 1949 to 1966 and was vice president of State Bank of Hartland from 1967 to 1969. He organized the Hartland National Bank in 1970, where he served as president until 1974.
He served a president of Capitol City Conference, NABAC, in 1955, and the Green County Bankers Association. He was a mason and served as president of the Monroe Lions Club.
He married Patricia McConnell of Oconomowoc in 1971.
They owned and operated the Valley Motel in Park Falls from 1975 until his retirement in 1980.
During retirement, he and his wife were active with the Price County Historical Society, serving as curators of the Old Town Hall Museum. He was the society's treasurer from 1980 to 1998.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Laura (Mike) Brandt of Golden, CO, Jane of Livingston, WI, and Sue of Alexandria, VA; a brother, Harold of Florence; a granddaughter; and by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; three brothers, Arthur, Russell and Donald; and a sister, Dorothy.
Carl
James L. Carl, formerly of Park Falls, died suddenly at his home in Milwaukee on Saturday, May 29, 1999.
Services were held Thursday, June 4, at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Chapel of the Chimes.
Burial was in Wisconsin Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois (Weimer); two daughters, Brenda (Michael) Mitchell and Sandra (Joseph) Oven; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers; a son-in-law; and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Axelson; and two brothers, Archie and Clarence (Slim).
Stehr
Rose D. Stehr, 94, of Park Falls, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Memorial services and an Eastern Star service were held Saturday, June 5, at First Congregational Church, Park Falls; Rev. Henry Boynton officiating.
She was born Nov. 17, 1904, in Bradley, IL.
She married Edward B. Stehr Aug. 8, 1926. He preceded her in death in 1982.
The couple moved to the Park Falls area in 1953. They owned and operated Stehr's Resort in Springstead for many years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Jacques Stehr; and a brother, Arthur Pepin.
