Ernfred Kroon
(1915-1999)
Ernfred Laverne Kroon, 84, of Rice Lake, died Saturday, May 1, at the Rice Lake Convalescent Center. A memorial mass was held Wednesday, May 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake with Rev. Kevin Gordon officiating.
Cremainal interment was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Shawano.
Jarocki Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Rice Lake was in charge of arrangements.
Ernfred Kroon was born January 14, 1915, in Paxton, Ill., to John and Anna (Anderson) Kroon. His marriage to Elizabeth Samson took place on September 27, 1941, in Chicago, Ill., and she preceded him in death. He later married Crystal Crooks on February 1, 1964, in Shawano. She died in June 1997.
He and his wife farmed in Ogema until 1947. They then moved to Shawano where he worked as a technician for Badger Breeders. He retired in 1975 and moved to Rice Lake in 1979. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen (Warren) Kraus of Shreveport, La.; a stepdaughter, Lucille (Gary) Below of Rice Lake; one sister, Esther DeYoung of Shreveport; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis, and by brothers and sisters.

Eldred L. Krueger
(1923-1999)
Eldred L. Krueger, 75, Dorchester, died Monday, May 3, at St. Joseph's Hospice Unit in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in the Town of Holway with Rev. Lauren R. Ley officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jessica Krueger, Lisa, Lyle Jr. and Lee Cardinal, Dave Korallus, Tony Olah, and Arnie and Mike Sova.
Visitation at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford will be from 4-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, and at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.
Eldred L. Krueger was born July 24, 1923, in the Town of Holway to Albert and Elsie (Raasch) Krueger. He received his education in the Town of Holway.
He worked at the Hillside Dairy in Cadott for 11 years, at Damms Saw Mill in Stetsonville for 11 years, and then hauled milk for Schmeiser Brothers for 10 years. After retiring in 1985, he did woods work and other jobs.
Survivors include one sister, Margie Sova of Medford; and three brothers, Benny of Medford, Arden of Dorchester and Louis (Edna) Krueger of Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Douglas Krueger in 1937; and one sister, Ruth Seaborn in 1985.

Alfred J. Pohle
(1912-1999)
Alfred J. Pohle, 87, of Park Falls, died Thursday, April 29, at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls with Rev. Al Ebach officiating.
Burial took place in Nola Cemetery in Park Falls.
Novitzke Funeral Home in Park Falls handled the arrangements.
Alfred J. Pohle was born March 14, 1912, in Medford to Ollie and Katrina (Domine) Pohle. He attended schools in Medford. His marriage to Lucille White took place on February 17, 1934, in Park Falls.
He was employed in the shipyard in Superior, Hines Lumber in Park Falls and then worked for the Flambeau Mill in Park Falls until retiring in 1975.
Survivors include one son, Donald Pohle of Phillips; a daughter, Judy (Fred) Lenzen of Park Falls; three sisters, Helen Hoffman of Medford, Matilda (Howard) Jawson of Milwaukee and Lillian Menos of Appleton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille in 1976; one son, Thomas; a daughter-in-law, Jean; a brother, Clarence; and one sister, Ann.

Leonard Urquhart
(1914-1999)
Former Medford resident Leonard "Buck" Urquhart, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 3 at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls.
A Masonic Memorial Service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Novitzke Funeral Home in Park Falls.
Leonard Urquhart was born June 8, 1914 at Medford to the late Norman Anthony and Blanche (Seek) Urquhart. He attended school in Medford.
His marriage to Eleanor Dolan, who died in 1981, took place at Iowa on June 12, 1943. In 1950 they moved to Park Falls.
He was a game warden until his retirement in 1960. During his retirement he was a sales manager at St. Croix Rod Company in Park Falls. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by five children, Jim (Nina), Stone Lake, Mary (Charles) Mickel, Golden, Colo., Elizabeth Urquhart, Madison, Kenneth (Kay), Forest Lake, Minn., and Stephen, Chisago City, Minn.; two sisters, Jean Perrin, Wolfe Island, Ontario, and Nona Thomas, Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathleen, and a brother, Donald.

Tillie Neumueller
Word has been received of the death of Tillie Neumueller, Town of Chelsea, who died Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Minneapolis. Funeral arrangements are pending with Hemer Funeral Home in Medford.
A complete obituary will be published next week.

Mary Smugala
(1909-1999)
Mary Smugala, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 28 at her home in the Township of Harmony in Price County.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 1 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Catawba, with Revs. Dismas Kalcic and Patrick Kelley officiating. Interment was held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Phillips.
Heindl Funeral Home in Phillips assisted the family with arrangements.
Mary Smugala was born August 7, 1909 at Chicago, Ill., to the late Steve and Mary (Hrpka) Walcisak. In 1913 her family moved to the Township of Harmony where she attended school. Her marriage to Joseph Smugala, who died August 28, 1997, took place in Phillips on September 29, 1937. They owned and operated a dairy farm for many years prior to their retirement.
She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Catawba and the Catholic Slovak Ladies Union. She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (Harry) Sweda, Lublin; three sisters, Julia Bushman, Kennan, and Celia Heitz and Irene Huebner, both of Chicago; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosemary Bauer; one son, Joseph; one brother, Steve Walcisak; one sister, Ann Lachky; one grandson; and one granddaughter.

Theodore Swanson
(1911-1999)
Theodore Roy Swanson, 88, Ogema, died Friday, Oct. 1 at St. Joseph's Palliative Care Unit in Marshfield.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema with Rev. Jerome Godson officiating. Interment was held at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema.
Theodore Swanson was born May 22, 1911 at the Swanson Homestead in Price County to the late Swan August and Anna Walborg (Hoffner) Swanson. He attended a one-room schoolhouse called Sunnyside Grade School. He worked on the Swanson farm with his brothers and sisters during the depression. In 1938, he moved to Chicago where he was employed with the Railway Express.
His marriage to Gladys Lodin took place on January 21, 1940 at Chicago. In 1988 they moved back to Ogema. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, playing guitar, woodworking and playing cards.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Teamsters for the Chicago area railroad.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Fred, Ogema, Jim, Minneapolis, Minn., and David, Chicago; two sisters, Gladys Erickson, McIntosh, Minn., and Inez Hill, Ogema; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Ernest, and Alfred; and two sisters, Linnea Swanson and Edna Oberg.
