Suzanne J. Ganther, 64, of Eau Claire died March 11, 2000 at Luther Hospital.
She was born Oct. 25, 1935, in New York, N.Y., to Marion (Kiraly) and Louis Banyai.
She attended school in Long Island, N.Y., Catawba, Wis., Kennan, Wis., and Phillips, Wis. She graduated from high school in 1954. She then attended the Eau Claire State Teacher’s College and a three-year degree program at Luther Hospital. She was a registered nurse at Luther Hospital and Mt. Washington Nursing Home. She married Gilbert Ganther, Jr. on Dec. 28, 1957.
She was an active member in the Chippewa Valley Ostomy Association, the United Ostomy Association (where she served as the Wisconsin State Representative, North Central Regional Coordinator, and the UOA Board of Directors member). She received the Bob Frye Award in 1989. A necessary complication to her life, kidney dialysis, was administered with loving attention by the people at the Hemodialysis Unit at Luther Hospital. Suzanne was a member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed needlework, knitting, reading, traveling and plastic canvas.
She is survived by her sons David (Dotty) of Athens, Mich., and Timothy (Fay) of Eau Claire; two granddaughters Danielle and Beth; two grandsons, Benjamin and Samuel; two brothers, Louis (Laurie) of Glenwood City, Wis., and Peter (Jill) of Old Fort, N.C.; three sisters, Mary Jean (James) of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Barbara Brockman, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Bette (Lindsey) Anderson, Grand Island, Neb.; and 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 13 at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Friends may call from 5:30 p.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Alvin Reineke
Alvin Henry Reineke, 85, of Eau Claire, passed away Friday, October 26, 2001 at Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation, Eau Claire.
He was born June 5, 1916, in Livingston, Wis., to Emil and Lisette (Thoenes) Reineke. He attended Butler School and Hobart Welding School in Madison, Wis.
He married Evelyn Morrison in Thorp, Wis., in April of 1936.
He was a pipefitter, working for Grovold, Healy and Bartingale Mechanical Contractors throughout the state of Wisconsin. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters for 56 years. He served on various committees for Local 385.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Eau Claire for 45 years, and served as trustee and Sunday School teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; 5 sisters; several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn; daughter, Eileen (Lauren) Books of Eau Claire; son, Emil (Lynette) of the Town of Butler, rural Thorp; grandchildren, Steven (Diane), Tom (Jill) and Lisa Books, Erich and Ethan Reineke and Sarah (Travis) Rowen; great-grandchildren, Kendra, Logan and Hunter Books; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alvin was a hard-working man who dearly loved his family and the out-of-doors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In retirement he and Evelyn traveled in their RV throughout the United States including Alaska. Alvin grew to adulthood in a family of 11 siblings and always looked forward to family gatherings. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at First Baptist Church, Eau Claire, with Reverend Richard Goins officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Town of Butler Cemetery, Clark County.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Boy Scouts of America. Prock Funeral home is handling arrangements.
Richard A. Garsow
Richard A. Garsow, 85, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away quietly at his home with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, February 27, 2001.
Richard A. Garsow was born in West DePere, Wisconsin on January 24, 1916, to Alexander and Ann Garsow. He was the youngest of four children. He moved to the Eau Claire Area in his teenage years. He enlisted in the regular Army in June, 1934, when he was a young man at Forte Meade, South Dakota with the 4th Calvary. In his course of a long and very honorable service, Richard had various assignments in the United States, Korea and Pacific to include the 188th Parachute Infantry, 728th Military Police Battalion, participating in four campaigns in Korea, New Guinea, Branch USDB Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and First Guard Company, United States Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Richard's awards and decorations included five Bronze Star Medals, Good Conduct Medal and clasp with four loops, American Defense Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He retired with honors in April, 1960.
Richard married Elaine Hanson in August, 1946, in Canton, Minn. They enjoyed 30 years of marriage. They were blessed with five sons. After living in Poynette, Wisconsin, they moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, until her death in 1976. While living in Kansas, he managed the Fort Drive-In Theatre and retired in 1977. In 1977, Richard married Margaret Barton Anderson, they lived in Eau Claire. They enjoyed 23 years of marriage, which included travel, family and fun.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #305, the American Legion and Moose Lodge Chapter #1408.
Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sister, Elizabeth Anderson; his children, Mike Garsow, Bill (Ann) Garsow, Ron (Mystie) Garsow and Tom Garsow; his step-children, Gordon (Marge) Barton, Ronald (Dorothy) Barton, Joyce (Don) Boese and Peggy (Lee) Bitzer; his grandchildren, Alan Garsow, Ian Garsow, Brandon Garsow, Diane (Mark) Popenhagen, Elaine Garsow, Brian (Jen) Garsow, Brad (Brittny) Garsow, Christine Boese, Dave (Denise) Barton, Doug (Maria) Barton, Tim (Bia) Boese, Jenny (John) Eckardt, Duane (Jennifer) Barton and Diana (John) Olson; his great-grandchildren; Ellie Popenhagen, Victoria Garsow, Kyle and Jared Garsow, Ryan and Justin Barton, Dylan Barton, Danny Boese, EmmaLee, Jacob and Lucas Eckardt, Amanda and Alisha Olson; his two nieces, Joann (Richard) Wassel and Angie (Cecil) Page; and two daughters-in-law, Joan Garsow and Mary Ann Garsow.
Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Joseph Garsow; his wife, Elaine Garsow; a son, Edward Garsow; and two grandsons, David and Tim Garsow.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at First Baptist Church, 416 Niagara St., Eau Claire.
There will be no visitation before the service. The family will receive friends following the service at the church..
The family has asked that memorials be addressed to Northwest Wisconsin Homecare Hospice at 2620 Stein Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
Military honors and burial will take place in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Doris L. McIntyre
Doris L. McIntyre, 77, of Eau Claire died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born August 22, 1923, in Knapp, Wisconsin, to Teresa and George Heller. She attended Augusta High School and graduated in 1941. Doris married Gilbert McIntyre on August 15, 1943, and they had 57 beautiful years together. She retired in 1992 from the Physicians Office Building of Sacred Heart Hospital where she was the receptionist for Dr. Jaghlit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Betty Heller and Helen Troutman; her son, Gary McIntyre; and twins, Robert and Roberta McIntyre.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by her husband, Gilbert; her son, Brent (Karen) of Eau Claire; her two daughters, Sandra (Gordon) Edington of Rhinelander, Wis., and Jill (Jon) Wittman of Howards Grove, Wis.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2001, at Trinity Baptist Church, 3439 Hester Street, Eau Claire, Wis., with Pastor Don Drury officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Eileen Books
Eileen Books, 65, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at her home.
She was born November 27, 1936, in Clark County in the town of Butler to Alvin Reineke and Evelyn (Morrison) Reineke. She attended elementary schools in Nekoosa, Superior, Busy Bee and Butlerville schools in Clark County and junior high at Black School in Eau Claire. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High in 1954. She received a degree from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minn., and worked as a Lab Technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls and the Midelfort Clinic in Eau Claire.
On October 25, 1958, she married Lauren Books at Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal Church in Eau Claire. After raising three children, working while her husband attained a college degree, she entered college herself and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1981. Eileen began her teaching career at the Sunburst School in Neillsville and also taught at Augusta Elementary and Chippewa Falls Elementary. While teaching, she received a Master of Science in Education from UWEC in 1985. She taught for nine years at Eleva-Strum High School and had been retired for two years.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Lauren; a daughter, Lisa Books of Seattle, Wash.; sons, Steve (Diane) Books of Mt. Horeb, Wis., and Tom (Jill) Books and three grandchildren, Kendra, Logan and Hunter of Oakdale, Minn.; her mother, Evelyn Reineke of Eau Claire; her brother, Emil (Lynette) Reineke of the town of Butler; a sister-in-law, Joan (Ray) Anderson of Wilmette, Ill.; a brother-in-law, David Books of Helena, Mont.; nieces and nephews, Sarah (Reineke) Rowan, Elizabeth Anderson, and Erich and Ethan Reineke; many cousins and other relatives and friends also survive Eileen.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Reineke.
Eileen lived life with enthusiasm and energy. She enjoyed her family, her relatives, and her friends in the workplace, church and neighborhood. She was an active 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Eau Claire. She was a member of the Friends of the Chippewa River Trail and enjoyed many outdoor activities. She was a member of the Steering Committee for the Historic Randall Park Neighborhood Association and a tutor for the Literacy Volunteers of America. Eileen was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She bravely and courageously fought to overcome the lung cancer that took her life.
A 1 p.m. Memorial Service and luncheon were held today, May 20, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Eau Claire, where a visitation was held at noon.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, Eau Claire, The National Cancer Institute, The American Cancer Society, Friends of the Chippewa Trail or other worthwhile environmental groups.
Paul R. Giles

Paul R. Giles, 76, of Eau Claire died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Luther Hospital after a brief fight with cancer.
Paul was born September 1, 1925, in Eau Claire, the son of William and Orra (Moore) Giles. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1944. Paul entered the Army in October 1943 and served his country for 30 months during WWII, including overseas duty in Germany. Following the service, he attended sign painting school and worked as a sign painter. He married Margaret Petersen on May 5, 1950. Paul worked for Wood Motors and was a Charter Pilot and flight instructor for Gibson Aviation. He was Company Pilot and construction supervisor for what is now SDS Architects for 26 years before retirement. He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing and was also involved in serving the Community Table. Paul was a member of First Baptist Church for 66 years, where he held many offices, singing in the choir for 45 years, as well as Boy Scout Leader.
Paul is survived by his wife, Margaret “Margo”; daughter, Jackie Giles of Eau Claire; son, Reverend Jeffrey (Jennae) Giles of Ashley, N.D.; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Jason Giles of Ashley, N.D., and Katelyn Giles of Eau Claire; brothers, William (Margaret) Giles of Brea, Calif., Gene (Betty) Giles of Eau Claire, and Reverend John “Jack” (Audraine) Giles of Kansas City, Kan.; brother-in-law, Norman Petersen of Spencer, Wis.; many nieces, nephews and friends that have been a special part of his life. His parents and one brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Eau Claire, with Reverends Richard Goins and Ron Harbold officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday.

Joyce Artac
FAIRCHILD -- Joyce Artac, 67, of W14795 Hwy 10, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
She was born August 13, 1933, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Prosper and Hester (Rooney) Ceranske. She married Norman Artac on Dec. 17, 1951 in Milwaukee. The couple lived in New Berlin, moving to Osseo in 1970 and to Fairchild in 1973.
She is survived by her husband, Norman of Fairchild; two sons, Gary of Fairchild and Brian of Merrill; three grandchildren, Christina Artac of Eau Claire, Charles and Chad Artac of Altoona; brother Vern Ceranske of Greendale; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Angie (Norman) Drinkwater of Milwaukee, Chuck Artac of Elroy.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 22, at 7 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial in the North Branch Cemetery, rural Fairchild. Friends may call from 3 p.m. on Sunday and until time of services at the funeral home.
