Dennis E. Strains, 65, of 3915 West Union Ave., passed away peacefully, Friday evening, December 22, at his home.
Born November 16, 1935, in Sheboygan, Dennis was the son of the late Alvah and Dorothy Felsinger Strains. He was united in marriage to Joan B. Kudirko in 1956 in Iron River, MI.
Dennis worked for Strains Decorating as a painter and decorator for over 30 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Kohler, where he also sang in the choir. He loved singing, especially Barbershop, and was a member of the Chorus of the Kettle Moraine, and a quartet - Suspended Animation.
Dennis is survived by his four children Sandra (Timothy) Brooks, Sheboygan, Suzanne (William) Laux, Whitewater, WI, Denise (Joseph) Parra, Sheboygan, and Mark (Leah) Strains, Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Anthony (Sheila) Haen, Christopher Laux, Jennifer Parra, Kaylee Strains, and Madison Dolata; one great-granddaughter, Cassandra Haen; a sister, Jeanette (Owen) Dekarske, other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Dennis E. Strains will be held 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, at the Lippert Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Ave. The Rev. William Redeker, Interim Pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Daphne A. Wilke
Daphne A. Wilke, 92, died Thursday, December 14, 2000, at Morningside Health Center.
Born August 8, 1908, in La Crosse, WI, Daphne was a daughter of the late Louis C. and Julia A. (Severson) Poss. She attended La Crosse grade schools and graduated from La Crosse High School. She received her teaching certificate from La Crosse State Teacher's College.
In 1929, she was united in marriage to Lester N. Wilke, in La Crosse, and the couple moved to Sheboygan. He preceded her in death in March of 1977.
She was employed by the City of Sheboygan School System as a substitute teacher for 35 years, retiring in 1965. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and playing golf.
Daphne was a 50 yr. member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Priscilla Circle Kings Daughters. She was a member of Shoreline Women's Club, Sheboygan Yacht Club and Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary.
Daphne is survived by her son, Roger (Joan) Wilke of Elkhart Lake; daughter, Julie (Ted) Nebel of Trinity, FL; her five grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Grandma Dee Dee", Robert (Robin) Wilke of Phoenix, AZ, Bonnie (Richard) Thompson of San Diego, CA, James (Angie) Wilke of Menomonee Falls, WI, Dan (Julie) Nebel of Orlando, FL, and Amy (Charles) Haugh of Crystal Lake, IL; and ten great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sister, La Verne Schaeffer.
A memorial service for Daphne will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Bluff Ave. The Rev. James H. Hollister, pastor, will officiate. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Thursday at the time of the service. Burial of her cremains will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund, in the name of Daphne A. Wilke, has been established for First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Delores A. Wilke
Delores A. Wilke, 68, of 601 S. 22nd St., passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at her home.
Born September 25, 1932, in Sheboygan, Delores was a daughter of the late William and Meta Schuricht Albrecht. She attended Cascade Elementary School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1950. On December 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Delphin Wilke in Cascade. The couple moved to Sheboygan and were married for 48 years.
Delores was employed as a domestic for the David and Charlette Sellinger family, even helping to raise the grandchildren for the past 46 years. She was previously employed by the Cascade Telephone Company, Lakeshire Marty and Ellinger Agricultural Woods.
Mrs. Wilke was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses for the past 48 years.
Delores enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving fruits and vegtables. Many enjoyed her cookies, bars and pies.
She is survived by her husband, Delphin; two children, Lois (Jason) Andrews, Plymouth, David, serving as a missionary in Quito, Ecuador, South America; one brother, Willard (Lucille) Albrecht, Kiel, WI; two step-grandchildren, Mitchell and Ryan Andrews; three nieces, Karen Albrecht, Diane Kuettle and Amy Kelly other relatives and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2001, at the Northside Kingdom Hall, 3328 North Ave. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Kingdom Hall on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Nass, Donald Merlyn

MESA, AZ -- Donald Merlyn Nass, age 78, of 245 N. 56th St., Apt. 204, Mesa, AZ, formerly of Clinton, WI, died Sat., Oct. 21, 2001, in Mesa. He was born July 12, 1923, in Sharon, WI, the son of Aksel and Alma Herstad Nass. Don married Waunita Carr on Dec. 10, 1949, in Sharon. Don co-owned and operated Tiffany Feed and Supply in Tiffany, WI with his brother, Richardt, then later owned and operated Don Nass Trucking, Inc. in Clinton, WI for 25 years before retiring to Mesa, AZ in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Waunita; 2 sons, Larry (Jean) Nass of Phoenix, AZ, and Scott (Catherine) Nass of Clinton, WI; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Edith) Nass of Mesa, AZ; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Richardt Nass and Martin Nass; and a sister, Marie Peterson.

Nelson, Flora Ann

EDGERTON -- Flora Ann Nelson, age 77, died Sun., Oct. 28, 2001, at Skaalen Sunset Home in Stoughton. She was born on Oct. 10, 1924 in Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Nora (Romack) Peavy. She married Norman Nelson on Nov. 24, 1948; he preceded her in death in May, 1977. Flora was a member of United Methodist Church and worked for many years at Nunn Busch Shoe Factory and at Dana Corp.
She is survived by a sister, Lilly Mae Davenport of Portage; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs., Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at BRUNI-NYGAARD-WARD FUNERAL HOME, Edgerton, with Rev. Tom Countryman of United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at East Koshkonong Cemetery. Friends may call on Wed., Oct. 31, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nuenthel, Gerhard F.
Feb. 8, 1931 - Nov. 1, 2001
EDGERTON -- Gerhard F. Nuenthel, age 70, of 86 County Trunk Highway N, died Thurs., Nov. 1, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born Feb. 8, 1931 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Otto and Alice (Stock) Nuenthel. He graduated from Boy's Tech High School in Milwaukee and enlisted in the Army in 1949. Gerhard was stationed at Ft. Head, MD, where he trained as a design engineer until he was honorably discharged in 1952. On Nov. 11, 1950, at Fort Head, he married the former Claire Geiger, who was also in the service. They moved to Milwaukee in 1952, and then to the Edgerton area in 1967. He was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Janesville. Their dream was to buy a house in the woods, but they couldn't find one; so they bought a house surrounded by cornfields and he planted the woods around them! Gerhard went to work for Gilman Engineering for a while, then for Kenematic Tool and Die, then back to Gilman, retiring in 1992. He was an active member of the Rock Valley Chapter of the Badger Chordhawks (a barbershop chorus group) and he also enjoyed bowling, gardening and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Claire; 4 children: Geraldine Stapleton of Jefferson, Rudy (Sue) Nuenthel of Paris, TN, Linda (Tom) Hiegel of Ft. Wayne, IN and Eric (Cheryl) Nuenthel of Edgerton; 7 grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Hinze Nuenthel of Utah; many nieces; nephews and other relatives. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ernst Nuenthel.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m, Sat., Nov. 3, 2001 at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, with the Rev. Thomas Colgrove officiating. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made in Gerhard's name to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. The Whitcomb-Lynch-Overton Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Otto, John Henry

JANESVILLE -- John Henry Otto, age 67, died at his home Tues., Oct. 30, 2001. John was born in Chicago, IL on April 30, 1934, the son of Albert and Alberta Otto. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954 aboard the USS Columbus. John was employed as a heating and air conditioning technician for many years, retiring in 2000. He was active in Janesville Boys Baseball for 25 years having been a coach, manager, a board member and league president. John was married to Norma Decker in Aug., 1994.
Surviving are his wife, Norma; 2 children, Christine (Dennis) Bullock of Elkhorn, John Otto II of Janesville; 5 grandchildren: Dan, Angela, Anthony, Bradley, John III; a sister, Elise (Edward) Millard, Clearwater, FL; 5 brothers: Albert (Emily) Otto of New Bern, NC, Robert (Marge) Otto of Phoenix, AZ, Norman (Jenny) Otto of Altus, OK, Dave (Kate) Otto of Chicago, IL, Dominic Fucone of Winneconne, WI; nieces; nephews; great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., Nov. 2, 2001 at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., with the Rev. David Ramel of ST. PAUL'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH officiating.
