DARIEN -- Keith J. Peters, age 85, passed away on Tues., Nov. 6, 2001 at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. He was born Aug. 22, 1916 in Darien, the son of Ralph and Edna (Johnson) Peters. He was a graduate of Darien High School and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He married Blanche Bradley Sept. 28, 1940 in Walworth. Following graduation from the University he was employed as a salesman by Swift and Company in Freeport, IL. He moved to the Walworth area in 1948 where he was a longtime dairy farmer. In the 1970's he managed fertilizer plants for Midland Corporation in Elkhorn and Osceola, WI. In 1971 he donated a kidney to his oldest son Larry. After retiring, he resided in Darien spending winters in McAllen, TX. He was a member of the First Brick Baptist Church of Walworth for over 50 years. A lifelong Wisconsin Badger fan holding season tickets for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Darien; 4 sons: Larry (Donna) of West Palm Beach, FL, Bradley (Donna) of Belvidere, IL, Alan (Susan) of Chappell, NE, David (Eliza) of Crofton, MD; 6 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 1 great-grandson; 1 niece. He was preceded by his parents; 1 sister, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 10, 2001 at the FIRST BRICK BAPTIST CHURCH in Walworth Township with the Revs. Dennis Shufelt and William Kermott officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2001 at TOYNTON'S WALWORTH FUNERAL HOME. The family requests memorials to Myelodysplastic Center at Rush Cancer Institute.
Quaerna, Oscar J. "Bo"

JANESVILLE -- Oscar J. "Bo" Quaerna, age 61, 1314 Purvis Ave., Janesville, died at University Hospital, Madison on Mon., Oct. 15, 2001. "Bo" was born on April 30, 1940, the son of Edward and Frances (Hess) Quaerna. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1957 to 1960. He married Sharon Riley in 1960 and later was married to Jackie Carhart on Aug. 3, 1974. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years and also operated Quaerna's Tavern for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie Quaerna; 9 children: Carrie (Aaron) Nottingham of Janesville, Jerold (Ann) Quaerna of Lake Geneva, Joseph (Amy) Quaerna, Cottage Grove, Michael Quaerna, Vicki (Terry) Michael, Linda (Keith) Cantwell, Terri (Brian) Lambert, Brian Carhart, Patty (William) Carhart, all of Janesville; 20 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his mother, Frances "Toddy" Quaerna of Janesville; 4 brothers: Arnold Quaerna of Baltimore, MD, Edward (Connie) Quaerna, James Quaerna, Daniel (Anne) Quaerna, all of Janesville; 3 sisters: Jeanne (James) Morrison, Kathleen (James) Flynn, both of Janesville, Carole (Scott) Hatfield of Walworth; numerous nieces and nephews. "Bo" was preceded in death by his father, Edward Quaerna and a brother, Donald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 18, 2001, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville with Fr. Del Klink of St. William Catholic Church officiating. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum with military rites by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post 1621. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME.
Randolph, Wilma Molissa

JANESVILLE -- Wilma Molissa Randolph, age 89, died peacefully at 1 p.m., Fri., Oct. 19, 2001 of congenital heart failure. Her deterioration from dementia of the Alzheimer's type became apparent in the early 1990s, and she became a resident of Rock Haven Nursing home on Nov. 10, 1998 after having been at Woven Hearts a few years before that. Her former residence was at 624 N. Oakhill Avenue. She was born on Dec. 30, 1911, in Bradford, TN, the daughter of Dennis Verton Hedgecock and Mary Hunter Hedgecock. Her husband was Fred Randolph, who was employed for many years by the City of Janesville as a very well-liked bus driver. Wilma's young life and schooling was in Bradford, TN and attended Humes H.S. there. She moved to Janesville and attended the old Janesville H.S. (now the Armory). She lacked one semester of graduating. She became active with the Salvation Army here and played the trumpet with the corps. She married Fred Randolph on Jan. 8, 1934, in Rockford, IL.
Her employment with the Parker Pen Company began in 1945 when it was located on Court St, later at Arrow Park. She retired in 1976 having worked in the shipping department for many years. After her retirement, she began studies at BlackHawk Technical College receiving her GED in 1978 at the age of 67. She loved children and became a "nannie" for several years. Gardening and southern cooking were her hobbies, being excellent in both.
She is survived by her only child, Freda Treder, well-known for her inspirational programs in the area; grandsons: Clark (Carole) Treder of Basalt, CO, Bruce (Jennifer) Treder of Athens, WI and Todd Treder, an employee at Sentry Food Store who resides at his home in Janesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who died on April 7, 1975; her parents; 3 brothers: Hunter ("Red"), Robert and Hollis; beloved son-in-law, Lewis Wayne Treder on (7-30-90); a much loved grandson, Mitch Treder (on 11-30-96).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 27, 2001, at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, with the Rev. James Harkness officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army. The family is being assisted by Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville.
Richter, Nigel

EDGERTON -- Nigel Richter, age 46, passed away on Wed., Oct. 31, 2001, in Trinidad, CO. He was born on Aug. 12, 1955 in Elmhurst, IL, the son of Patricia (Charles) and Walter Richter. Nigel married Kim Halpin in Fox Lake, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Kim of Edgerton; 4 children: Hayley, Nigel, Kelley and Karley; his parents, Patricia (Paul) Carlon of Deerfield, IL and Walter Richter of Vero Beach, FL; twin sister, Diane (Ray) Manthorpe of N. Miami Beach, FL; 4 brothers: Paul (Diane) of Trinidad, CO, Kurt of Waukegan, IL, Craig (Ellen) of Eugene, OR, and Karl (Carol) Carlon of Beach Pk, IL. He is preceded in death by a stepbrother, Craig Bogin; a stepsister, Darlene Bogin.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., Nov. 10, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the FULTON CHURCH with Pastor Larry MacKenzie officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the FULTON CHURCH. The Albrecht Funeral Home, Edgerton, is assisting the family. The family requests in lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to a Bank One Savings Fund being set up for the Richter children's higher education. Ritchie, C. Alene (Fisher)

JANESVILLE -- Alene Ritchie, age 89, of 1700 S. River Road, passed away on Oct. 22, 2001 at Mercy Manor. Alene was born on June 29, 1912, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Clyde and Ina (Coon) Fisher. She married John Frederick "Fred" Ritchie on June 30, 1933, in Waterloo, IA. They moved to Wisconsin in 1943, first to Milton, then to Janesville. Alene worked for Milton College in the admissions office until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of the Janesville Women's Club for many years. Alene also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Her husband predeceased her on Nov. 28, 1996.
Alene is survived by 2 sons, Jack (Gail) of Washington, MI, Mitchell of Sacramento, CA; 3 grandchildren: Randal (Nisha), Erik (Raquel) and Star Ritchie; 2 great-granddaughters, Asha and Meena; a sister, Mary (William) Astor of Greene, IA; a sister-in-law, Mable von Falkenstein of Milton, WI; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Alene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather and 2 brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Oct. 27, 2001, at the CEDAR CREST CHAPEL, 1700 S. River Road, Janesville, with Rev. Glenn Skatrud officiating. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Society. Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton, is assisting the family.
Schmidt, Florence E.

JANESVILLE -- Florence E. Schmidt, age 77, of 930 N. Washington St., died Thurs., Nov. 1, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. She was born on Jan. 27, 1924 in Richland Center, the daughter of Delbert and Alma (Hardy) Burrington. She has been a Janesville resident since 1951, moving here from Kankakee, IL. Florence married Earl E. Schmidt on Sept. 3, 1940 in Dubuque, IA, he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1984. She was employed by Gibbs Manufacturing for 24 years, where she worked on the Apollo 11 project. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, and R.S.V.P. at Riverview Heights. Florence enjoyed crocheting, craft projects, and was a world traveler.
She is survived by her 4 children: Carolyn (Paul) Rebman, and Carol (David) Schenk, both of Janesville, Earl R. Schmidt of Oregon, WI, David Schmidt of Germantown, WI; 11 grandchildren: Vicki Purdy, Joe Rebman, Linda (Kevin) Logue, Andy (Kathie) Rebman, Jim (Kelli) Rebman, Cynthia (Michael) Cusick, Christine (Allan) Stubbendick, Connie (Steve Casper) Corcoran, Timothy (Kimberly DePorter) Corcoran, David (Amy Hamilton) Schenk, II, and Wendi Schenk; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Alfred Burrington, Paul (Mary) Burrington, both of Stoughton, Theron (Veda) Burrington of LaCresent, MN, and Delbert (Jean) Burrington of Dousman, WI,; a sister, Eva (Kenneth) Fleck of Robinson, IL; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl; a brother, Ernest; and a sister Esther Burrington.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 5, 2001 at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses on staff at Mercy Hospital.
Sewell, Margaret "Margie" (Swetland)

BELOIT -- Margaret "Margie" Swetland Sewell, age 38, died on Wed., Oct. 24, 2001. She was born on July 27, 1963 in Beloit, the daughter of Robert and Patricia Hawes Swetland. Margie graduated from Beloit Memorial High School with the class of 1981. She received her two year degree in food service from Blackhawk Technical College.
Margie is survived by 3 children: Jessica, Ashley and Adam Sewell, all of Wisconsin; a brother, Steve Swetland of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Martha Smith and Christine Strack. She was predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Michael Swetland.
Friends may visit on Sat., Oct. 27, 2001 from 10 until 11 a.m., at ST. THOMAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 822 E. Grand Avenue, Beloit, WI. There will be a 11 a.m. Mass held with Fr. Thomas Doheny officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery, Beloit, WI. Memorials to the family would be appreciated. Arrangements are being handled by Hansen Funeral Home, 424 Prospect St., Beloit, WI.
Stauffacher, Madeline "Madie" J.
Aug. 16, 1913 - Nov. 3, 2001
MONROE -- Madeline "Madie" J. Stauffacher, age 88, died Sat., Nov. 3, 2001 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. Madie was born Aug. 16, 1913 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Michael and Goldie (Sachtjen) Rigney. She graduated from Freeport High School and married Marvin W. Stauffacher on May 10, 1941 in Monroe. Madie and her husband owned Marv's Bar in Browntown for 20 years before operating the Coryell Nursery of Browntown from 1966 until 1982.
Madie was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe, and was active in the American Cancer Society. Madie was a life long republican and in 1985 was named as the Queen Mother of Wisconsin Republican Politics. She attended 5 G.O.P. National conventions, 35 state conventions, and was a past president of Republican Women, which she helped reactivate in Green County. Madie also was a member of the state G.O.P. Executive Committee from 1964-1968, Wisconsin Assembly candidate in 1966, chairman of the Kantro-Knight March of Dimes fund raiser for 10 years, and a member of Monroe V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary to Cecil Jones Post #2312.
Survivors include 3 children: Barbara (Kenneth) Viken of Footville, Michael (Danielle) Stauffacher of Beloit, Marsha (Rodney Kittle) Mash of Middleton; 9 grandchildren; a brother, Tom Rigney of Madison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin on Oct. 18, 1982; 3 sisters: Mary Arnold, Pauline Rigney and Joan Stephenson; a brother, Bill Rigney.
Funeral services will be held on Wed., Nov. 7, 2001 at 11 a.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Msgr. Thomas Campion, Chaplain of Monroe Clinic Hospital, officiating. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitations were held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. and will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Madie's name.
