MILTON -- Louise E. Wegmuller, age 87, died on Oct. 25, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. She was born on Feb. 28, 1914, in Stadtoldendorf, Germany, the daughter of Alfred and Louise (Garbe) Villars. She came to America with her parents.
Surviving is a son, Jim (Linda) Wegmuller of Milton.
According to Louise's wishes, there will be no services held. Burial will be in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The Albrecht Funeral Home assisted the family.
Williams, Jan R.
Jan. 24, 1956 - Oct. 23, 2001
BRODHEAD -- Jan R. Williams, age 45, of W1244 Town Center Rd., passed away unexpectedly, Tues., Oct. 23, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. She was born on Jan. 24, 1956 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (Shrier) Malcook. She married Jeff W. Williams on Sept. 23, 1978 in Brodhead. Jan graduated from Brodhead High School in 1974 and had worked at Sentry Food Store, the Brodhead Veterinary Clinic and was most recently employed by Danco FS of Brodhead. She was also active on the family farm. Jan enjoyed bowling and gardening, but her primary love was family.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff of Brodhead; 2 daughters, Ashley and Danyelle, both at home; parents, Floyd (Bill) and Elizabeth (Betty) Malcook, Brodhead; a brother, Larry (Mary) Malcook, Brodhead; 3 sisters: Ruthie (Galen) Roshiesen, Barb (Rick) Clark, Marj (Corky) Broughton, all of Brodhead; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Fri., Oct. 26, 2001, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead, with Rev. Dan Herman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established.
Williams, Joseph Leslie
Aug. 22, 1908 - Oct. 26, 2001
JANESVILLE/MILTON -- Joseph L. Williams, age 93, of 730 McEwan Lane, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Encore Senior Villa, where he had been a resident since August 2001. He was born in Apple River, IL, on Aug. 22, 1908, the son of Joseph and Nell (Foley) Williams. Joe left his hometown of Apple River in 1926 at the age of 17 to work at General Motors. He married Marian Woodstock on Sept. 2, 1933, in Apple River, IL. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Seabee Construction Battalion) from 1943 to 1945 and was proud that he served his country during World War II. After returning from the service, he was self-employed as a truck driver for Northland Conveyor. In 1955, Joe and his wife started Williams Bus Service, transporting children to Janesville and Milton schools, and also drove a truck for Janesville Sand and Gravel. He was building inspector for the Town of Janesville for more than 32 years, retiring in 1997, at the age of 88. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton, American Legion Post 298 of Apple River, IL, Teamster Local 579 and Southwestern Wisconsin Building Inspector's Association. Joe enjoyed many things in life, including working, going to auctions and flea markets collecting a little bit of everything, visiting with friends, and spending time with family; best of all, playing with his special great-grandson. Joe was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend and will be greatly missed.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marian; a daughter, Vicki (Ray) Heritage; 2 granddaughters, Amy (Kenneth) Garber and Heather Heritage; and a very special great-grandson, Derek Lee Garber, all of Janesville. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glenn; and 2 sisters, Claribel Rieff and Mae McHatton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Milton, with Msgr. James Uppena officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, WI 53546 and also on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial, with full military rites by Kienow-Hilt VFW Post #1621, will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Tuesday.
Wilson, Roscoe Allen

DELAVAN -- Roscoe Allen Wilson, age 94, of 4313 Co. Hwy O North, died Sat. evening on Nov. 3, 2001 at Willowfield Nursing Home. Roscoe was born on July 1, 1907 in LaSalle, IL, the son of Harvey H. Wilson and Emma Murfin. Roscoe married Lois Miles on Feb. 23, 1935 in LaFayette Twsp., WI. Lois predeceased him May 20, 1997. Roscoe was a dairy farmer in the Delavan area all his working life. He was an avid gardener and a friend of the UCC-Congregational church.
He is survived by 2 sons, Alan of Mundelein, IL, Ron (Betty) Wilson of Delavan; a daughter, Helen (Don) Schmaling of Delavan; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Edith Rohloff and Emily Bell, both of Elkhorn. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois; a son, Harvey; 3 sisters: Lila, Pearl and Laura; a daughter-in-law, Diane.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wed., Nov. 7, 2001 at the UCC-CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH with the Rev. Laura McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday at the Betzer Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. Memorials to the church are suggested.

EDGERTON -- Marshal E. Gist, Jr., age 35, died on Fri., Oct. 26, 2001, as a result of injuries in an automobile accident. He was born on Dec. 9, 1965 in Harvard, IL, the son of Marshal E. and Sharon Sherman Cook Sr. Marshal Jr. was employed by Wynn's Roofing.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Sharon (Bert Weeks) Cook of Janesville; a sister, Diane Sherman of Oshkosh, WI; 2 nieces, Amber and Ashley Sherman; a nephew, Terry Sherman Jr.; maternal grandmother, Doris Sherman; aunts; uncles and friends. He was predeceased by his father; paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wed., Oct. 31, 2001 in DALEY-MURPHY-WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI with Rev. Richard Adair officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Grenawalt, Kenneth O.

EVANSVILLE -- Kenneth O. Grenawalt, age 64, died on Thurs., Oct. 25, 2001, at Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton. He was born in Orfordville on March 28, 1937, the son of Orville and Bernice (Clark) Grenawalt. He married Loisann Loretta Johnson on Aug. 25, 1962 in Monroe. She died on April 16, 1998. Kenneth was a 1956 graduate of Evansville High School, a member of the US Naval Reserve, and a longtime resident of Evansville. He was employed by the City of Evansville for 37 years, a member of the volunteer fire department, and the Brooklyn Sportsman's Club. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle (Roger) Ehle of Stoughton; 2 sons, Gregory (Constance) of Brodhead, Eugene of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Aaron Hallmark of Stoughton, Magnolia Grenawalt of Brodhead; a stepmother, Bernice Grenawalt of Janesville; 2 brothers, James (Nancy) Grenawalt of Minocqua and Eugene (Jan) Grenawalt of Evansville; several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Mon., Oct. 29, 2001 at the Magnolia Advent Christian Church, 14726 West County Road A, Evansville, with Pastor Nathan Dean officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville. Friends may call at the NEWCOMER-SILVERTHORN FUNERAL HOME, Orfordville, from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Hamre, Mary (Stanke)

JANESVILLE -- Mary (Stanke) Hamre, age 77, known as "Aunt Mary" to many, died peacefully on Tues., Oct. 16, 2001. She lived in her own apartment with her cat, Calico, while being lovingly cared for by family and staff at The Huntington Assisted Living community for the past two years. She died with her daughter, son-in-law and grandson present at the Cedar View Health Center, where she had been taken care of since Oct. 4, 2001. Mary was born on Jan. 7, 1924, the daughter of Gustave Stanke and Mary (Franz) Stanke, immigrants from Danzig, Germany. Born in Harvard, IL, she was the first in the family born in the United States. After age five, when her father died, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Charles Erdmann, and moved to Janesville with them in 1934. She married Wilmer G. Hamre in 1943 in Janesville; he died in 1978.
Mary will be remembered most for her life-long efforts to help others by making herself available to the family, friends and organizations with her compassionate listening and good deeds. Prior to graduating from Janesville High School in 1942, she was active in student council, marching band, basketball, volleyball and many community service projects to help those in need and aid war efforts. She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church since the age of 10; she was involved in the Mission Society, teaching Sunday school, starting and leading Junior Lutherans, and serving on many committees and boards. Mary was a member and served as the president of the P.T.A. during her daughter's years at Washington Elementary School. In her Janesville community, Mary will be remembered most for her work at ECHO. She served as the organization's first coordinator, leading and organizing volunteers while assisting those in need with food, clothing and compassionate listening until she was 74 years old.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sue Hamre-Nietupski and her son-in-law, Dr. John Nietupski, both of Iowa City, IA; her grandson, "the sunshine of (her) life", Christopher John Hamre Nietupski, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; her "Sis" and friend for life, Lois Biggerstaff of Janesvile; a sister-in-law, Delores Stanke Garves of Janesville; many nieces and nephews; and all those who knew her as their "second mom" or "aunt". She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; step-father; brothers: Edward, Herman and Louis Stanke; sisters, Magdelena "Helen" Brooks of Janesville, Wanda Stanke of Germany; and all of her brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Fri., Oct. 19, 2001, at 1:30 at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Parker Dr., Janesville, with the Rev. Judi Huseth officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Burial will be held at Milton Lawns Cemetery, Janesville. Memorials may be made in Mary's name to the church or ECHO of Janesville.
