June 9, 1924 - Oct. 29, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Elaine J. Hills, age 77, of 1601 N. Randall Ave., died Mon., Oct. 29, 2001 at home. She was born June 9, 1924 in Beloit, the daughter of Charles L. and Nellie A. (Carr) Coakley. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1943, and was a resident there until moving to Janesville 17 years ago. She was employed by Freeman Shoe Co., Normas' Beauty Shop in Beloit, and Parker Pen in Janesville, retiring in 1979. Elaine enjoyed crocheting, and needlepoint, and loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her 3 children: Joanne Ivy, Daniel Hills, and Pamela (Debbie Hunt) Hills all of Beloit; 3 grandchildren: Victoria Fudge, Andrew and Melissa Ivy; 3 great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Brenda Lewis of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 1, 2001 at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Kay Welsch officiating. Interment will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home.

Jacobson, Yvonne R. "Bonnie"
March 4, 1923 - Oct. 23, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Yvonne R. "Bonnie" Jacobson, age 78, formerly of 1601 N. Randall Ave., Apt. 61, died Tues., Oct. 23, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. Yvonne was born on March 4, 1923 in Monroe, WI to Willliam and Gladys (White) Fields. She married Stanley Jacobson on Dec. 13, 1948; he died Feb. 7, 1983. She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper at Case Feed and Seed Company. Yvonne was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include 3 children: Christine (Ronald Rast) Genz, Dennis (Jean) Jacobson, both of Janesville and Yvonne (Wayne) Daniel of Rockport, TX; 7 grandchildren: Shawn and Melissa Genz, Jennifer (John) Geske, Shelly and Kristy Jacobson, Brian (Patti) Erdman, Lori (Steve) DeAmico; 10 great-grandchildren: Donovan, Katie, Michael, Brittany, Kyla, Brian Jr., Chase, Michael, Jacob, Dalton; a brother, Richard Fields; 3 sisters: Evelyn Olson, Maxine Ferguson, Dorothy Sanders; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Maudie and Elmer Rasmussen and Thelma Larson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Danny, her parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Mon., Oct. 29, 2001, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. James Melvin officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd. on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m.

Jansen, Charles A.
Sept. 29, 1922 - Oct. 21, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Charles A. Jansen, age 79, died at his home on Sun. night, Oct. 21, 2001. Charles was born in Chicago, IL on Sept. 29, 1922, the son of Charles and Bertha (Zeirk) Jansen. He graduated from Kelvyn Park High School, Chicago. Charles served in the U.S. Army Battery C 497th AAA Battalion from Jan. 1943 until Jan. 1946 and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. He married Marion Wardahl on June 8, 1951 in Chicago. Charles was employed by Active Electric Supply for many years. A Janesville resident since 1990, he was a member of Moose Lodge #197.
Survivors include his wife, Marion; 2 daughters, Sandra (Edward) Binkley of Harwood Heights, IL and Karen Kennah of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Heather (Terry) Short and Christopher (Tina) Binkley. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, William.
Visitation will be held on Sat., Oct. 27, 2001, from 3 until 6 p.m. at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. A service will be conducted by Rev. Michelle Timm of First Lutheran Church, Janesville at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Johnson, Beverly Lorraine
Oct. 1, 1927 - Oct. 23, 2001
LAND O'LAKES, WI -- Beverly Lorraine Johnson, age 74, died peacefully at home with her family on Oct. 23, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 1, 1927 in Lone Rock, WI, the daughter of Pearl and Martha Preston. She married Gerald Johnson on June 29, 1946 in Stoughton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Beverly retired from General Motors in 1987. She loved to do crossword puzzles, play bingo and knit.
She is survived by her 3 children: Sue (Jack) Barnes of Fort Atkinson, Jon (Linda) Johnson of Land O'Lakes and Mary Jo (Mark) Sievert of Janesville; 7 grandchildren: Christopher Olsen, Sarah Olsen, Jenny Mades, Chad Johnson, Brett Johnson, Kari Jo Sievert and Kirby Sievert. She also included Heather Metoyer, Andy Barnes, Mary Beth Olsen and Laura Olsen as part of her extended family of grandchildren. She is also survived by her very special friend and companion, Robert Vingers.
Visitation will be from 3 until 4:30 on Sunday, October 28, 2001, at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH, with a memorial service immediately following. A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Mon., Oct. 29, 2001. Memorials may be sent to Dr. Kate Lakeland Hospice c/o Howard Young Health Center in Woodruff, WI.

Jones, Donna J. (Stearns)
Sept. 5, 1935 - Oct. 28, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Donna J. (Stearns) Jones, age 66, of 1414 Gartland Ave., died Sun., Oct. 28, 2001, at her home. She was born in Brodhead, on Sept. 5, 1935, the daughter of Richard and Ellen (Daley) Stearns. Donna married Robert W. Jones on April 14, 1956, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Janesville. She retired in 1995 from SSI Technologies. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church, and was an avid bowler. Donna was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; 6 children: Rick (Linda) Jones of Janesville, Gary (Julie) Jones of Albany, Jeff (Phyllis) Jones of Footville, Matt Jones, Bobbi Jo (Tim) O'Leary and Pam (Jeff) Shoemaker all of Janesville; 10 grandchildren: Melissa, Felicia, Amanda, Joseph, Crystal, Brianne, Angel, Erin, Stacy and Alex; a great-grandson, Michael David; a brother, Fran Stearns of Pardeeville; 5 sisters: Mary Wolters of Brodhead, Margaret Chamberlain, Betty Clark and Pat Brodie all of Janesville, Kathleen Parks of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Bob, Tom and Joe Stearns; and 2 sisters, Jean Briggs and JoAnn Terry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 31, 2001, in St. William Catholic Church with Fr. Del Klink officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In life we loved you dearly. In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you, you are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same;

Kaplan, Joan L.
Dec. 29, 1932 - Oct. 20, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Joan L. Kaplan, age 68, of 1742 S. Crosby, died Sat., Oct. 20, 2001 at her home. She was born on Dec. 29, 1932, in Deerfield, WI, the daughter of Otto and Stella (Jacobson) Behm Sr. Joan moved from the Cambridge and Fort Atkinson area to Janesville in 1954. She married Stanley A. Kaplan Sr. on Nov. 12, 1955, at St. William Catholic Church, Janesville. Joan has been employed several places over the years, including the cafeteria at G.M., Huff shade, Borg Amphenol, Prent, Gilman (Giddings & Lewis), and Panoramic. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; she enjoyed Bingo, going to the casino, knitting, sewing and playing cards (especially solitaire). Joan also was a full time mother, who dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Sr., 5 children: Shelly (Carl) Perry, Stan Jr. Kaplan, Steve (Karla) Kaplan, Jerry Kaplan Sr., and June (Glen Perry Sr.) Kaplan all of Janesville; many grandchildren: Allan Kaplan and Shirley Hurley both of Janesville, William, Amanda and Anton all of Ft. Atkinson- and their mother Carol Mack; Mike White and Kaylee Kaplan both of Janesville, Amber and Jerry Jr. Kaplan both of Janesville - and their mother Brenda Wallace; James Kaplan and Glen Perry Jr. both of Janesville; 5 great-grandchildren, a brother, Otto (Gretchen) Behm of Watertown; a sister Dorothy O'Leary of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Cassandra Kaplan; 2 brothers, Fredrick "Bud" Behm; a half brother, Olive Hanson; 3 sisters: Florence (Charlie) Schroeder and Lois Behm in childhood; a half sister, Virggie Karbowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 24, 2001 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr. Daryl Furlong officiating. Burial will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Cambridge, WI. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME, with a Scripture service at 5:30 p.m. A Special Thank You to June Kaplan and Jeff with HospiceCare, Inc. for Love and Support.

Kennedy, Daniel Bruce
Jan. 9, 1947 - Nov. 5, 2001
JANESVILLE -- Daniel Bruce Kennedy, age 54, of Janesville, formerly of Schofield, died Mon., Nov. 5, 2001, at HospiceCare in Madison after a long struggle with a spinal injury. Daniel was born on Jan. 9, 1947 in Schofield, WI the son of Vernon and Nellie (Sparehawk) Kennedy. He was a 1966 graduate of D.C. Everest High School. Daniel and Rebecca (Roebuck) were married May 1969. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church. He was a "small town struggling insurance man" that started and ran The Kennedy Group, a successful insurance and marketing company. Danision forged the path that is followed today in Association Marketing and Insurance Administration. Dan was instrumental in starting the Janesville Paramedic Program. Dan was a wonderful Father, Husband and Grandfather who loved life and his family. He always said that his injury "built character" and defined him as a man. He always lit up a room with his presence, wore a smile on his face and kept laughter in his heart.
Dan will be dearly missed by his family: wife, Rebecca; and father, Vernon Kennedy both of Janesville; 3 sons: Shawn (Lorraine) Kennedy of McFarland, Shannon (Bekki) Kennedy of Madison and Christopher Kennedy of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Cooper F. Kennedy and Rebecca A. J. Kennedy; a sister Joyce Kennedy of Chino Hills, CA; 2 brothers, John Kennedy of Laurel, MD and Pat Kennedy of Wichita Falls, TX; a brother-in-law, Forrest Roebuck of Augusta, GA; his mother-in-law, Elinore Roebuck of Wausau; many nieces and nephews and a neighborhood of very supportive friends. His mother, Nellie Kennedy preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 9, 2001 in St. Markutheran Church, Janesville with Rev. Reuben Rubs Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville. Memorials may be made to the Syringomyelia (spinal injury) Foundation.
