Conway "Chester" Vernon, 73, of Trempealeau, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998 at his home. He was born November 22, 1924 in Fairfax County, Virginia, to Charles and Flossie Lee (Landis) Vernon. On January 20, 1950 he married Mary Lou Boxrucker in Maryland.
The couple later moved to Wisconsin and raised their family. She died May 25, 1998. Conway had been a teamster for many years, but will be remembered by those in the G-E-T School District affectionately as "Chester" the bus driver. He was a member of the Jehovah Witnesses.
Survivors are 4 sons - Gary (Pamela), Jeffrey Paul, both of Trempealeau, Scott (Claudia) of Green Bay, Wis., Jonathan of West Palm, Florida; a daughter - Jenny Thorne of Trempealeau; 8 grandchildren; and a sister Betty Vernon El Sadr. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Joseph.
His body was cremated. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 1998 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Galesville. John Swanson will officiate. Friends may call at the Kingdom Hall one hour prior to services. Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville, assisted the family with arrangements.
Leona Wagner
Leona Wagner, age 89, of Blair and formerly of Trempealeau died Friday, December 11, 1998 at Grandview Care Center in Blair, Wis.
She was born December 17, 1908 to Frank and Mary (Kirlen) Cisewski in Winona, Minn.
She was employed by Swift and Company for many years. On April 28, 1925, Leona married George Wagner in Trempealeau, Wis.
Leona is survived by 2 sons, Kenneth of Trempealeau and Richard (Jo) of Lonsdale, Minn; 1 daughter, Betty (Richard) Andriesen of Trempealeau; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 brother Frank Cisewski of Apachee Junction, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sons, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
A memorial service was held at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau on Tuesday, December 15, 1998. Fr. Robert Wagner officiated. Her body was cremated.
Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville, assisted the family with arrangements.
Edmund M. Waldera
Edmund M. Waldera, 84, of Trempealeau, died on Friday, May 7, 1999 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. He was born on September 12, 1914 in Arcadia to Michael and Mary (Lisowski) Waldera. He married Alethea Schlesser on October 25, 1941 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. He served in the U.S. Army in W.W. II.
Edmund had worked for 7 years at Winona Transit Co., farmed in the Centerville area from 1951 to 1978, and retired in the Trempealeau area for the past 20 years. He was a member of St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau, the Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17 and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Alethea of Trempealeau, one son, Michael (Mary) Waldera of Trempealeau; three daughters, Nancy (Victor) Tuschner of Dodge, Doris (Roger) Daggett of Viroqua, and Rita (Rick) Boland of Independence; one sister Griffie Cotter of Montello, Wis.; 7 grandchildren, Todd (Lynn) Waldera, Tanya (Jim Verse) Waldera, John (Irene Rhode) Tuschner, Julie (Donnie) Havlicek, Jeni Tuschner, Bob and Brad Boland; 2 step-grandchildren Michael (Pixie) and Carrie Daggett; 3 great-grandchildren, Mitchell & Kayla Waldera, and Jessica Havlicek, and 3 step great-grandchildren, Gavin, Kayden, Renae.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Sam Stelmach; 3 sisters, one in infancy, Proxie and Emerene.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, May 10, 1999, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau. Fr. Robert Wagner officiated. Burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Killian Funeral Home, Arcadia, assisted the family.
Eddie will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister and friends.
Martha Williams
Martha Williams, 90, of Trempealeau, passed away Friday, January 29, 1999, at Marinuka Manor Nursing Home, Galesville. She was born September 1, 1908, in Trempealeau to Clinton and Edith (Hess) Pittenger. She married Russell Williams, May 21, 1928, in Winona, Minn. He died March 24, 1978.
Survivors are 4 daughters: Ruth Ann (Gerald) McDonah, of Trempealeau; Juanita Thomas and Helen (Don) Barnewitz, both of Winona, Minn.; Nancy (Tom) Severson, of Blair; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Olson, of Trempealeau.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
She was a beautiful seamstress and loved flowers and gardening but most of all her family. A wonderful mother, always pleasant, she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were Monday, February 1, 1999, in the Trempealeau United Methodist Church, the Rev. Betsy Miller-Ruben officiated. Burial was in Trempealeau Public Cemetery.
Edward F. Wojciechowski
Edward F. Wojciechowski, 75, of Trempealeau died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in his home. He was born June 9, 1923 in Winona, Minn. to Frank and Frances (Langowski) Wojciechowski. On June 10, 1947 he married Dolores A. Lecheler in Elmwood, Wis. Ed was a World War II Navy Veteran and had been employed as a welder for 36 years at Trane Co. in La Crosse, Wis. before his retirement on December 31, 1985.
He was a member of Towner-Little Bear-Arnold V.F.W. Post #1915, St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church and Trempealeau Sportsman's Club, all of Trempealeau.
Survivors are his wife Dolores of Trempealeau; 2 sons, Thomas (Linda) of St. Peter, Mo., James (Donna) of Trempealeau; 3 daughters, Susan (Dennis) Stark of Winona, Minn., Margaret (James) Binash of Onalaska, Wis., Rita (John) Carlson of Prior Lake, Minn; 8 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Seawright of Madison, Wis. and Josephine Squires of Eyota, Minn.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a brother.
Funeral services were Monday, March 29, 1999, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau. Fr. Robert Wagner officiated. Burial with military rites was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau.
Clara Woestman
Clara Woestman, 98, formerly of Trempealeau, died Friday, July 7, 2000 at Franciscan Skemp Arcadia Nursing Home in Arcadia, Wisconsin.
Clara was born January 29, 1902 to Theodore and Anna (Digman) Schindler in Iowa. She attended area schools.
On June 2, 1921 Clara married Anthony Woestman at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau.
Clara is survived by a son Ervin (Carmen) Woestman of Trempealeau, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild, and one sister-in-law Ruth Schindler of Trempealeau.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Trempealeau. Fr. Robert Wagner officiated. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Trempealeau.

Caroline L. Young
Caroline L. Young, 79, of Trempealeau and formerly Galesville, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 in Marinuka Manor, Galesville.
She was born December 5, 1920 in Galesville to Henry and Mary Ellen (Ryder) Gelder. On October 10, 1964 she married Vernon R. Young in Galesville. He died June 3, 1976.
Survivors are nieces and nephews.
Caroline's wish was to be cremated.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 13, 2000 in Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery, Ettrick, Wisconsin.
