Dorothy Elizabeth Smith, age 101, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000 in Madonna Towers in Rochester.
She was born February 22, 1899 in Galesville, Wisconsin.
Dorothy was a teacher in Sheboygan, Wis. from 1919 - 1921; Brainerd, Minn. from 1921 - 1927; West Haven, Ct. from 1928 - 1956. She resided in Rochester from 1956 until the time of her death. She was a member of the Congregational Church, Eastern Star, P.E.O., and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She never married. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 8, 2000 at the Ranfranz Funeral Home Chapel in Rochester, Minn. The Reverend Diane Harvey officiated and burial was in Pine Cliff Cemetery in Galesville, Wisconsin.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
James A. Nehring
James A. Nehring, 50, Colgate, WI. died Thursday, July 27, 2000 at his home after a year's courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born December 8, 1949 in Galesville, WI to Marshall and Nona Nehring. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville, and confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Trempealeau. He attended school at Centerville and Trempealeau and was a 1968 graduate of Trempealeau High School. He continued his education at Winona State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in 1972 and a Master's degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1974. He lived in the Milwaukee area since his marriage on August 6, 1972, to Emily Christopherson of Whitehall, WI. He was currently employed as an expediter at Suburban Construction of Richfield, WI.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; four sons, Marshall (Sarah), Oshkosh; Matthew, Colgate; Mitchell (Lori, fiancee) Oshkosh; and Keith, Madison. Also, his mother, Nona Nehring, Trempealeau, WI; one brother, Irvin (Nancy), Byron, MN; two sisters, Janis (Tom) Spier, Port Byron, IL and Ruth (Chris) Koehn, Cascade, WI. Three nephews and two nieces also survive. He would have been a grandpa in August. He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall.
A visitation was held from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000 at Phillip Funeral Home in West Bend and the funeral service was at 7 pm. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Richfield, WI.
Margaret Nilsestuen
Margaret Nilsestuen, 86, of Arcadia, Wis. died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born on April 17, 1914, in the Town of Gale, rural Galesville, Wis., to John and Ruby (Van Vleet) Hammond.
On April 4, 1942, Margaret married Gerhard Nilsestuen. He
preceded her in death on October 13, 1998.
Margaret had been a teacher in the country schools of Blair, Wis., Galesville and Tremp-ealeau, Wis.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Deane) Peterson of Delafield, Wis., and Wilda Skroch of Fairfax, Va.; four sons, Wayne (Joni Sarles) Nilsestuen of Bolivia, South America, Rod (Carol) Nilsestuen of Deforest, Wis., Randy Nilsestuen of Arcadia, Wis., and Kent (Beth) Nilsestuen of Arcadia; 12 grandchildren; one nephew, Leo (Mona) Hovell and their three children; and one sister, Betty Smaglik of Arcadia.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were Friday, August 4, 2000, at the Tamarack Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jerry Hanson officiated. Burial was in the Tamarack Lutheran Cemetery, rural Arcadia. Serving as casketbearers were Margaret's grandsons.

Marian D. Streich
Marian D. Streich, 78, Trempealeau, Wis., died September 12, 2000 at Onalaska Care Center. She was born
August 17, 1922 to Frank and Pearl (Fetzer) Schultz in Theilman, Minn. She married Harold Streich on April 25, 1942. Marian retired from Winona Glove.
Marian is survived by two daughters Betty (Alvin) Stanislowski and Sandra (Roger) Kramer, both of Trempealeau; a son-in-law Francis Hofschulte of Lake City, Minn; four brothers and two sisters; 7 grandchildren Jeff Hofschulte (special friend Lisa) Lake City, Minn., Daniel (Sandy) Hofschulte of Lansing, Iowa, Rob (Pam) Stanislowski of Trempealeau, Diane Stanislowski (special friend Doug) of LaCrescent, Minn., Dafney Stanislowski
(special friend Eric) of Chaseburg, Wis., John Kramer (special friend Brenda) of Trempealeau, Janelle (Matt) Weaver of Trempealeau; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, a daughter Darlene, a grand-daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
Marian was a member of the Jehovah Witness Congregation in Galesville, Wis. Her body was cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville. Marian requested no services.
We will miss "Mom" and always remember her as a friend, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a kind caring person.

Edith M. Stage
Edith M. Stage, 78, of Altoona, Wis. and formerly of Ettrick died Friday, October 6, 2000 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, Wis.
Edith was born January 29, 1922 in Sparta, Wis. to Otto and Bertha (Mellem) Brandt. She attended area schools.
On November 29, 1939 Edith married Rodney John Stage Sr. Edith was employed by Marinuka Manor as a nurses aide for many years.
Edith was a member of Hardies Creek Lutheran Church, Hope Circle, the W-ELCA, she also taught Sunday School, ARC, Homemakers, 4-H and AARP.
Edith is survived by her husband, 3 sons Rodney (Carmen) Stage of Silsbee, Texas, Edward Stage of Nevada, David Stage of Rochester, N.Y.; 4 daughters Edie (Robert) Storey of Ettrick, Linda (Eugene) Johnson of Blair, Connie Faugh of Rochester, N.Y., and Teresa (Craig) Anderson of Milwaukee, Wis.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Walter (Mary) Brandt of La Crosse.
She was preceded in death by a son Joseph, a daughter Jo Ann, a grandson Paul and a sister Helen.
Funeral services were Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at Hardies Creek Lutheran Church in Ettrick. Rev. John Ashland officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Dolores E. O'Neill
Dolores E. O'Neill, 85, of La Crosse, Wis. died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000 at the Hillview Healthcare Center, La Crosse.
She was born in Melrose, Wis. on Dec. 30, 1914, to Bert and Effie (Brinker) Congdon. She married Howard O'Neill in Waukon, Iowa, on Mar. 30, 1948.
In addition to her husband, Howard, she is survived by one son Ron (Sally) of Grafton, Wis; one sister, Mildred (Ray) Schweers of Wausau; one sister-in-law Thelma Congdon of Galesville; and several nieces, nephews and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son David and one brother Darwin.
Memorial services were Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, Galesville. The Rev. Dr. R. Steven Krueger officiated. Private family burial will be in the Pine Cliff Cemetery at a later date.
Leone M. Smith
Leone M. "Le" Smith, 68, of Medford, Wis. died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center Long Term Care in Medford, where she had resided for the past 2 months.
She was born March 30, 1932, to Lee and Millie (Parks) Sacia, of Galesville. She attended Galesville area schools and graduated from Galesville High School in 1950. She attended LaCrosse Business School in LaCrosse.
On Sept. 3, 1955, she married Don D. Smith in Minot, North Dakota.
After her education and marriage she was employed from 1955-1960 at the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic in Minot, No. Dakota; 1960-1964 lived in Balfour, No. Dak.; 1964 moved to Hollandale, Wis. and worked in Mt. Horeb, Wis. at the Karakaul Inn waitressing; 1967 moved to Arcadia, Wis. and was employed as a medical clinic receptionist and also as a waitress at Wason's Supper Club in Galesville; 1979 moved to Medford where she and her husband owned & operated the R-Bar and she also worked at Memorial Medical Center as an aide and later receptionist for 18 years. She retired in 1995 and became a volunteer for Victim Abuse.
She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, Wis.
Leone is survived by her husband, Don Smith, Medford; three sons, Bob (Karen) Smith, Williston, North Dakota, Brad (Dawn) Smith, Rib Lake, and Lonnie Smith, Medford; 5 grandchildren, Chad, Carisa, Brett, Casey, and Cadie Smith; 2 step-grandchildren, Derek and Bryan Becker; three brothers, Carroll (Wanda) Sacia, Galesville, Otis (Judy) Sacia, Bullhead City, Ariz., and Jack (Beverly) Sacia, Diamond Bar, Calif.; and one sister, Lorna Betz, Galesville. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Gerald, Wendell "Stub" and Merle "Curly".
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at the Hemer Funeral Home in Medford. Pastor James Babler will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Cremainal interment at Medford Evergeen Cemetery II.
