Raymond L. Hogden
Raymond L. Hogden, 83, of 506 Melby Street, Westby, died Monday, July 24, 2000. He was born March 7, 1917 in Ettrick, Wis. to Albert and Nora (Onsrud) Hogden. He was baptized at French Creek Luther-an Church and confirm-ed at Ettrick Lutheran Church. He graduated from Gale College Academy in 1934 and Luther College in 1939. During his youth, he learned carpentry from his father, a master carpenter without peer. He married Eleanor Unseth on February 4, 1943 at Westby-Coon Prairie Lutheran Church by pastors J.O. Holum and K.M. L. I. Urbert. In 1933, he experienced his first airplane flight with Max Conrad, the famous flying grandfather. He entered flight training at Minneapolis, November 27, 1940 and received a commission as Ensign and Naval Aviator 8584 on August 18, 1941. He served as flight instructor at Corpus Christi from October 9, 1941 to October 28, 1943. He was commissioned VC-75 as Acting Commanding Officer at Seattle November 11, 1943. He was assigned to CVE Ommaney Bay on July 12, 1944 arriving Kaneohe, Hawaii. As a Navy pilot he supported missions at Peleiu, Babelthaup, Anguar and Leyte. He was awarded the Navy Cross. The Ommaney Bay was sunk on the way to Lingayen Gulf on January 4, 1945. On August 22, 1945, he separated from active service. He requested active duty assignment to NAS Twin Cities and on November 15, 1954 he became CO VS 812. He subsequently served as an instrument flight instructor and assistant Wing Commander. He was promoted to Captain September 1, 1963. He served as Chief of Staff NARS 81 in 1965 and was designated Staff Commander NARS 81 in 1967. He retired from the Navy June 30, 1973 after more than 32 years.
He purchased a hardware business in Ettrick in January 1946. He sold the business at the end of 1947 and moved to Westby in 1948 to renovate the Unseth house, which had been damaged by fire. While living in Westby he built five houses. He formed a partnership in 1949 with Leif Mikkelson. The general contracting company of Hogden and Mikkelson built nursing homes, churches, parish halls, high schools, elementary schools, gymnasiums and numerous other public and commercial buildings. He sold his half of the business to Leif Mikkelson when he retired in 1977. He served as President, Vice President, Secretary Treasurer and was on the Board of Trustees of the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Westby Coon Valley State Bank for thirty years.
He is survived by two daughters, Anola "A.J." (Marvin) Leisso of Onalaska and Linda Beth "L.B." Hogden of Minneapolis; a son, Marc Jon of Viroqua; two grandsons, Jeffrey C. Urbanek of Maple Grove, Minnesota and William Jon Hogden of Westby; one sister, Dr. Corinne Robinson of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eleanor, on February 17, 1991, two brothers, Alvin of Ettrick in 1997 and Allen of La Crosse in 1998.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 28, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Westby-Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Jordahl will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby.

Diane Mae Jenks
Diane Mae Jenks, 70, of Overland Park, Kansas and formerly Galesville, died Friday, September 15, 2000 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas. She was born December 19, 1929 in Galesville to Thorleif F. and Lucille (Sather) Larson. On July 5, 1951 she married Vaughn LeRoy Jenks in Galesville. As a couple they first lived in Galesville and later moved to Colorado and then to Utah. Early in her career she worked for the Gundersen Lutheran Clinic followed by years of employment for school district offices in Denver and Salt Lake City.
Survivors are a daughter, Denise Deanne (James R.) Whitten; a granddaughter Dana Diane Whitten; her mother Lucille Ann Larson, all of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother Ronald (Rose) Larson of Mission, Texas; an aunt, Chrystal Lyon; and a cousin Ann Gemoll, both of Mesa, Ariz. Her husband and father preceded her in death. Her body was cremated.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 in Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville. Rev. Arnold Flater officiated. Burial was in Pine Cliff Cemetery, Galesville.
Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel assisted the family.
Diane was a devoted wife, dedicated and loving mother and a trusted and loyal friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

George I. Lakey
George I. Lakey, 72, of Trempealeau died September 3, 2000 in his home.
George was born February 11, 1928 to William and Lizzie (Wilber) Lakey in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. He attended area schools. On December 5, 1970 George married Delores (Kanz) in Winona, Minn. George worked as an inspector for Badger Construction for a number of years.
George is survived by his wife Delores, two sons, Peter (Bernadette) Merchlewitz of Rushford, Minn., David Merchlewitz of La Crosse, Wis.; seven daughters, Pamela Beardsley, and Mary (Roger) Kulas, both of Ridgeway, Minn., Cheryl (Scott) Benson and Lisa Welter, both of Winona, Peggy (Wayne) Schultz of Ettrick, Bonnie (Ronald) Muras of Trempealeau, Tina Tainter of Lewiston, Minn.; and a very special son-in-law Steve Beardsley of Galesville; 26 grandchildren; a sister Alice Jonas of Galesville; two brothers, Lyle Lakey of Warsaw, Ind. and Gerald Lakey of Trempealeau.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 6, 2000 at Zwickey Funeral Homes Galesville Chapel. Rev. John Ashland officiated. Burial was in the Trempealeau Public Cemetery.

Gregory P. McKeeth
Gregory P. McKeeth, 23, of Ettrick, died Saturday, September 30, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Gregory was born April 10, 1977 to Donald and Holly (Truax) McKeeth in La Crosse, Wis.
Gregory graduated from G-E-T High School in Galesville.
He is survived by his parents, a brother, Mark McKeeth, a sister Kallie McKeeth, both of Ettrick, paternal grandparents Donald "Red" and Leona McKeeth of Galesville, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gregory was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Kenneth and Betty Truax.
Funeral services were Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Ettrick. Rev. Lyle Ness officiated. Burial was in the Ettrick Cemetery.
Zwickey Funeral Homes, Galesville Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.

Janet L. Kaczorowski
Janet L. Kaczorowski, 51, of Trempealeau died Friday, October 6, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.
Janet was born May 22, 1949 to Allen and Julia (Stull) Gillies in La Crosse, Wis. She attended area schools.
On August 25, 1968 Janet married Robert Kaczorowski in Trempealeau, Wis. She was employed by the Village of Trempealeau as Clerk and Treasurer for the last 10 years.
Janet is survived by her husband; a son Daniel (Jennifer) Kaczorowski of Onalaska, Wis.; a daughter Lara (Jim) Pape of Appleton, Wis.; her parents;
4 brothers Ken (Lynn) Gillies of Egan, Minn., David (Laura) Gillies of La Crosse, Wis., Ron (Laura) Gillies of San Diego, Calif., John (Sherry) Gillies of La Crosse;
2 sisters Mary Gianino of Minneapolis, Minn. and Joan Gillies of Boston, Mass.; 5 nieces and 4 nephews; Ollie, a four footed black and white special friend and pal, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Heidi in 1971.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Tremp-ealeau. Fr. Robert Wagner will officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 7 - 9 p.m. at Zwickey Funeral Homes Galesville chapel. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. It was her wish to be cremated.

Esther G. Leavitt
Esther G. Leavitt,76, of Trempealeau, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis. She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Ettrick, Wis., to Roy and Ida (Jevne) Stensven. In 1942 she graduated from Blair High School. On April 23, 1947, she married Orrin M. Leavitt in Ettrick. He died Nov. 26, 1975. Esther had been the Village Treasurer in Trempealeau for 13 years until retiring her position in 1991. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Trempealeau, and its W-ELCA and choir; the Trempealeau Order of the Eastern Star: and Towner-Little Bear-Arnold VFW Post # 1915 Auxiliary of Trempealeau.
Survivors are 3 sons, James 0. (Christine) of New Holstein, Wis., Guy (Rita) of Blair, Wis., Steven (Vicky) of Mauston, Wis; 5 daughters, Barb (Gordon) Manson of Golden Valley, Minn., Nancy Wagner, Marilyn Leavitt, both of Trempealeau, Debbie Ebersold of Tomah, Wis., Pam (Dave) Gobran of Maplewood, Minn; 16 grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Clara Stephenson of Blair, Wis., Alice Gilberg of Trempealeau. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lorence and Robert Stensven.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 15, 2000, in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Trempealeau. Rev. Jerry Hanson officiated. Burial was in Trempealeau Public Cemetery.
Zwickey Funeral llome, Galesville Chapel assisted with arrangements.
Her family will miss her uplifting sense of humor and her unending love.

Harry D. Murray
Harry D. Murray, 91, of Centerville, died Monday, November 27, 2000 in Lakeview Health Center, West Salem, Wis.
He was born April 15, 1909 in Money Creek, Minn. to Lester and Mabel (Chapel) Murray. In 1933 he married Helen Marsh. She died in 1985. Along with his brother, Harry owned and operated a trucking firm until he retired. He was a founder of the Centerville Curling Club, a past member of the Evergreen Cemetery Association Board and a long time member of the Trempealeau Town Board.
Survivors are 4 half sisters, Doris Kingman of Thiensville, Wis., Verna "Murph" Johnson of Trempealeau, Wis., Jean George of Racine, Wis., Arlyce (Tom) Chambas of Mequon, Wis. and 2 half brothers, Allyn (Alyce) Murray of West Bend, Wis. and Lester (Nita) Murray of Columbus, Ohio.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mertie, a half sister Norma Jane and a brother Harvey.
Funeral services will be at
1 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2000 at Zwickey Funeral Home, Galesville, with Rev. Betsy Miller-Ruben officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until services.
