Broken Wheel of Friendship
Like spokes of a wheel they are missing, From the circle of friends we knew. One by one they are taken from us And have passed beyond our view. One by one the circle is broken, One by one they come to the end Of this life as each had known it Leaving gaps which never can mend. We miss their presence among us Each one in a different way For we've ever grown close to each other As we've shared in our work and our play. We have faced the same droughts and blizzards, And blessings too many to name. Each passing is marked by our teardrops For the circle won't be quite the same. When we gather for branding or harvest
Or dinners we share at the hall, We'll notice that someone who's absent Has answered Eternity's call! So the spokes of our wheel are missing As these friends are passing away May each who is left in life's wagon Trust the Life, the Truth, and the Way!
